He's the calming influence in the lockerroom and especially the floor. Woodson's assistant coach directing traffic. We had none of that yesterday. Felton runner after runner missing, Melo resorting back to hero ball, and bad JR backing out to the 3 pt line instead soaring for the dunk...

Get better Coach Kidd...we need you.

gotta give you credit, when you are not chasing people down playing melo police, you pull some funny stuff out of the blue..

Our MVP needs some help. He poured in 35 and 13. These other guys need to step up.

Was it the media hype of the game last night that had us revert back to the style that lacked team cohesion(especially in O.T)

Or was it just a back to back game and Melo had a personal interest being born in Brooklyn and wanted to represent...Didn't he grow up in Baltimore ?

fast start is a combo of having a vet team play team ball early, good defense, catching teams out of sych helps. Miami might have been as well as Philly.

Its really not all that bad, its just not healthy to expect too much based on a small sample. The Dallas game was bad as was getting blown out by the Rockets.

Losing close games on the road is not a crime.

gunsnewing @ 11/27/2012 12:11 PM
Smith got only 7 shots
Novak only 3

Maybe Melo, Felton & Woodson need to do a better job of getting them more shots

Sheed was 2 for 11...2-6 from 3. Too many 3's

I used to have this gym membership but never really went. It's kind of the same with you and your "Somber Six"affiliation

See tkf, we aren't so different.

I may seem Homer Simpson most of the time, but I'll call the Knicks out if it's deserved.

Yesterday's game was nip and tuck...tight throughout, both teams playing hard as hell. That said, we could've easily walked out of there with a W.

Felton's troubles (3-19) were well documented in the other thread.

Melo played like an MVP for 3 quarters, then shyt the bed from exhaustion probably towards the end of the 4th and OT.

JR probably played his worst game of the season, and that's saying something since believe it or not, he's been very consistently good.

Sheed should not go 2-11 under any circumstances. 2 or 3 Three attempts are fine. 6 is defintely stretching it if your name isn't Steve Novak

Novak missed some critical 3s, but he wasn't much of a factor overall

Brewer is less than 75%, with knee and now dislocated finger problems

Tyson finally showed up big time, props to him.

Pablo has been putrid for the most part, but PnR is his game, and he doesn't have many rollers to pass to in the 2nd unit.

Camby just looks super super sluggish...can't believe it's taking him this long to get in shape. Took Sheed only a month amazingly.

Kurt Thomas has played well in the minutes he's given. His midrange isn't automatic like it used to be.

White needs playing time stat. He's a live active healthy body, good defender. Limited offensively, but not so much different than what Brewer gives.

Copeland, maybe have him run in the 2nd unit with Pablo a little, just to shake things up?

Woodson, doing the best job he can with vital pieces out. Love his set plays out of timeouts. Usually executed to perfection. Don't like how we're finishing games as of late. We lack that killer instinct in these recent losses.

I think you may be less of the homer crowd, just a bit protective of melo, and again, you may see me as a bit critical, so all is fair I guess..

as far s the rest goes... this is my concern with an older team.. we have problems that were masked by the quick start, which is why I said, lets not get ahead of ourselves..

with that said.. we just need kidd to be on the floor and healthy.. period..

Sheed should not go 2-11, I mean the first thing the dude did when he came in the game was hoist up a three..... I have seen him this year make some nice moves in the post... the problem is, I don't think he has the legs to play down there for most of the game...

camby looks old and slow, but he needs to play.. can't get in game shape unless you play in games.. sheed may look better because sheed plays the position game better than guys like camby who have gotten away with using athleticism his whole career... he is going to have to adjust... sheed is kind of wide and has a rear end, he can get rebounds with less work... camby is going to have to get into shape fast..

we need to expand the rotation, and for the love of god, lets play more pick and roll with prigs in the game he looks lost in the offense otherwise..

did I already mention we need jason kidd back?

gunsnewing @ 11/27/2012 12:42 PM
Sheed is in shape now because he went through nothing but extensive conditioning on the side before he ever stepped foot on the court in scrimmage. Camby getting hurt then joining the team in season on the road hasn't had the same luxury. I don't understand why Camby didn't play garbage minutes since practice time is limited. Would've sped up the process. We gave up a lot to get Camby and overpaid. I was for it but not if he's going to be nailed to the bench

well if my choice of groups is the "somber six" vs. "I jerk off to everything MElo does" Im gonna go with the 6.

Did you not notice I said he had a great game?

After ten years of having any enthusiasm for this team result in total dismay and depression Ive learned to curb my enthusiasm and just call what I see.

My opinion is the same. 50 win team, too old and too predictable to compete for a title, but might make it out of the first round. Until I see differently I will let you know. I enjoyed the game last night. Very spirited.

I save my enthusiasm for the NY Giants. The Knicks have earned somber.

Somber Six sounds more tempting by the day.

Just drips of elitism in that crew. Might have to fill out an application soon.

Game is 90% mental... and 90% skilled, and 90% IQ, and 90% athleticism? Something is not adds up.
Game is combination of all of the above plus many more things.
At a small sample the experience and attention to defense give us 8-1 result.
Then it get to our heads... or.. we are the world beaters. And the magic is gone.
The only way we can beat NBA powerhouses assembled of young talent and supper stars is get beck the the underdog mentality.
The underdog we actually are. Then we will be able to compete again.
But from there it is 100% mental.

"The game is 10% physical 90% mental..." John Madden & Michael Jordan said the same thing !

Basketball Is 90% Mental and 10% Physical
When asked about their recent losses, Doc Rivers of the Celtics said:

"...it bothers me that we're not mentally tougher..."

Here's an article written by Dr. Alan Goldberg that goes further into sports psychology and mental toughness.

If you follow the Celtics like I do, you'll know that they've lost 3 out of the last 4 games (Clippers, Sixers, and Nets). These are games you would think that the #1 seeded team in the East could win quite easily.

One could chalk it up to injuries, fatigue, back-to-back games, new players, or whatever other reason that's been talked about on the Celtics blogs and forums, which I read on a daily basis. However, Doc hit it right on the nose when he said that his team is just not mentally tougher. The mental toughness and thoughts of players set the tone for how they play in the game.

Why do coaches give "pep" talks before a game? Why do players have certain rituals before a game? They're "psyching" themselves up to be mentally prepared.

Why do players like to trash-talk their opponents? They want to get inside their head and affect how they play.

How are teams able to come back and win a game after being down 20+ points? They believe and have the confidence in their game and abilities.

How can someone who is hurt (Kobe) or sick (remember Michael Jordan?) continue to play at a high level? They stay focused on their game instead of their physical ailment.

Believing and knowing that you can win far outweighs any physical skill that another team has. Look at the Celtics. They have three future Hall-of-Fame candidates who are extremely talented in their position. They also have an assist master in Rajon Rondo...and yet, they were beaten by teams that are probably not even going to make it to the playoffs. If this were the playoffs, do you really think that the Celtics would have let this happen? I don't think so. That's because when you're in the playoffs the whole mindset changes.

What was your wins prediction under Dantoni, Gallo, Wilson, and Mosgov?

Mid 30s or high 30s? Because 50 under Melo and Woodson sounds pretty good.

Nalod @ 11/27/2012 11:25 PM

Under promise and over perform.

The "Somber" are happier as they temper their expectations. 6-0 and the Homers are are acting as if they taken "Knick" viagra and everything looks good to them. 6-0 is the placebo.

Its mental.

That team also had Amare and I dont remember, but I believe I said 45-48 wins. Considering they were 21-9 over a 30 game stretch after that bad, had beaten Spurs, OKC, Melo's Nuggets, Bulls twice, DAllas and were playing like .560 ball I was pretty much right on with that one. Of course that team was nothing compared to this one
