Gunsnewing.....Excellent angle that I never considered before. Regular Gun owner "inspection" would certainly be a game changer and could prevent many crimes. Wpuld also add that one of the inspections needs to be psychological evaluation. The obstacle to this is the NRA lobby. They don't want anything related to guns touched in any way. The problem is ownership was made a constitutional right at the time when people needed guns to protect themselves during war time with the British Army and to hunt for food. That constitutional right does not transfer so well into today's society with millions of people living in close proximity, weapons of mass destruction and supermarkets.

Bans work great for drugs already right.
Worked great for alcohol too.
This is such a stupid argument and I'm tired of hearing it from the gun nuts.
Drugs and alcohol are easily grown/made/brewed in someone's home. Any paraphernalia you would need, pipes, rolling papers, needles and syringes, are already manufactured on a large scale for other purposes. And, there's no quality control going on so their efficacy differs wildly depending on who you're buying from.
Guns, on the other hand, are not easily made in someone's basement. They are fairly complex machines that need time, effort, and materials not readily available to create. They are also useless without bullets which aren't made for any other reason then to be shot from guns and are also not easily created.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about gun ownership outside of a well regulated militia.
Threads like this are like saying after 9/11 that we should deport muslims. Like it or not this is America and we have the right to bear arms. Just because a disaster occurs doesnt mean that our rights can be taken away.

Yeah, banning guns through a constitutional amendment is the same thing as deporting people.
There has to be a bigger picture here , who and why would they want to ban guns in America.
Suicide has surpassed car accidents as the No. 1 cause of injury-related death in the United States. School shootings on the rise as well.
The decline of mental health has become detrimental to our society. Not guns.
Strict gun regulations are a good idea, but will not fix the real problem.

Its a given right now but its archaic-- a right that hasn't changed with the times. There is no reason for anyone to have a homed based weapon. Its not one incident--its an epidemic thats has constantly been brushed under the rug. in the name of these kids--my hope is their lives are atleast in value to save others. I was reading one poster who said he needs to have a gun to protect his wife and kids when hes not home. The reality is much more likely that the gun is used to hurt his family. It was a gun like his who was shoved into the face of 5 year olds to spread their brains all over their classroom. Maybe when he puts his kid on a bus for the first time and trusts others to take care of her he will think about that.

The worst health care system and the easiest access to guns among western countries isn't a very good combination!

Do me a favor and spare me your sarcasm.
I go out to dinner with my wife yesterday, and guess what, I am armed. If some psycho comes in, I can defend myself. If someone tries to mug me, I can defend myself. Some people are willing to surrender their rights and rely on others for protection. I'm not, and I should not be forced to because of disasters that have an almost nil chance of occurring to me or to one of my loved ones.
On a side note, the reason these mass shootings are occurring so much more is because of the media. Now any psycho can be known the world over, can have the President speaking your name. The massive media coverage encourages copycats. Should we ban twitter? Ban the internet? Limit how many articles each person can read?
Our rights are precious. Men have died for them. We have to be cautious about how flippant we can be in saying they should be disregarded. This is the land of the free, and the home of the brave. At times like this you have to be brave to remain free.

People have been killing each other before guns existed. Banning guns isnt going to change anything.
You wouldn't have the number of casualties if the perpetrator was armed with a sharp object. Seriously, why do people need guns?
Guns are an equalizer. You got psychos out there.
I got finger printer and background checked when I got my carry concealed license.
What if your gun falls into the wrong hands or for that matter you wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Guns need to be banned there is absolutely no reason for civilians to have guns.
to hell with the gun lobby, ban all guns

2. It is our constitutional rights. There's a reason behind this. What if the government becomes fascists? So if only military people have guns, we're screwed.
This 'right' is so outdated, it's ridiculous. It kind of made sense when the governments best weapons were guns and the occasional cannon, but the US military is so much more mightily armed now than it was then, guns would be useless in a conflict- really do you honestly believe that you and your gun is going to protect you against fighter jets, nuclear missiles, gas, tanks, explosives, etc etc?

It is not. No place.
But I'd suggest you read the entire article you're citing.
I did. Regardless of how crimes are reported, my point is that Britain locks their guns down and violence has not subsided.
Most of the violence in the uk is drink related- people get hammered at night and start fights. Imagine if guns were available, it would be so much worse.

The war in Iraq and Afghanistan has the same situation.

The gun gives you an illusion of safety- in reality no mugger is going to come up to you and your wife and give advance notice, and enough time to get your gun out. You'd be just as protected with a tazer or pepper spray.

Let's hope that when some psycho comes in and you start playing Wyatt Earp you don't accidentally hit innocent people. Let's also hope that other people who are also pretending that they live in the wild, wild west don't confuse you for the shooter and shoot you instead. And I'm sure that the various wet dreams you've had about winning a shootout have totally prepared you to not panic when you actually face one.
We want gun control yet we empower and vote for the people who are vocal advocates against gun control...How does that work??...
Rupert Murdock, Fox News Rupert Murdock, just put out a statement...when would politicians have the courage to do something about gun control...This is a joke right???...
Your government has no problem slaughtering civilians to advance their agenda. They've slaughtered civilians overseas, they've slaughtered civilians at home. Your government does not want you safe, they want you weak. That is why they funnel you into their government programs and they wage wars against terrorism and drugs. What is a couple of dozen civilians in the grand scheme of things to the monsters in charge of the shadow government?
There has never been anything like this spate of shootings, I wish people would not believe everything the media says. Obviously to me, this is part of getting our guns away from us.
Don't you all see the big plan?
Many have been blinded by their emotions of this horrible incident......which is exactly what they want and certainly why they chose kids this time. Disgusting!
Question everything.
