Knicks · Does Copeland make Novack expendable? (page 2)

NO

Absolutely not. Championship teams need a lights out shooter role player. He will win games for you when used in the right spots. Already has.

Mike Miller looked horrible last year but came up big in the finals. You always need shooters. Also, Novak started slow but had been doing great before the last game he played. Plus is D has been better and he isn't afraid to grab a board.

On the nights when Novack is giving us nothing, I want to see coach if coach goes to Copeland. If the trends continue to look as if Copeland gives you just good of a threat as Novack, I think Grunny would really consider moving Novack.

Could get a really good backup point guard like Sessions for Novack.

Novak is doing his job just by spacing. If a guy isn't leaving him, it's one less defender on the guy at the rim.

No loyalty, if Copeland is real, I would trade those two for Ersan Ilyasova and start him for Brewer.

TC/Wallace/Amare
Melo/Amare/Copeland
Ilyasova/JR
Kidd/Shumps
Felton/Priggy

I laugh when I see remarks such as "defenses have figured Novak out".

Novak averaged 2.46 makes from beyond the arc last season. A total of 133 makes during 54 games. He's currently averaging 2.33 makes from beyond the arc this season. Not that big of a difference... He's still shooting the rock lights out. Ranked 7th amongst NBA players in three pointers made along with being 16th overall in 3 point shooting percentage. Something tells me, that we haven't seen the best/strongest of Novak here in 12-13 either.

No, Steve Novak may not be shooting at a .472 clip from beyond the arc (as in last year), but he's still draining the 3 ball with major success here in 2012-2013. Currently has a .438 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. How great is that? Well, lets just say that an all-time great in Larry Bird never even finished his amazing NBA career with a shooting percentage of anything more than .376% from beyond the arc. Comparing Novak to Bird? No. Just pointing out how strong Novak has shot the ball from beyond the arc this season.

No, I don't believe Copeland makes one of the greatest pure shooters in the game today in Steve Novak expandable. But instead, I believe that Copeland strengthens our overall bench depth as a role player. If he continues to shoot as smooth as he's shot over the past couple of games? I believe it's safe to say that he'll improve our overall ability as a team.

Novak doesn't even need to shoot the ball when he's on the court in order to impact. The stat sheet doesn't tell the entire story. He opens up the court for his teammates due to his threat to drain shot after shot ala you can not leave Novak open. He must be accounted for at all times; advantage to the rest of our Knick players.

to be fair novak has been very inconsistent. copeland has played well every time his number is called

Novak has played multiple seasons. Copeland could have an epic fall off. Copeland is still unknown.

Exactly. This is my concern. Novak is down from last season, but Copeland's career makes me feel that he may be on a roll that won't last.

Right now Novak is the better player. Copeland has had some nice moments, but it's early. Let's see how he does over a full season. One thing you can say, though, is that the scouting on this team is ridiculously good.

I'm not sure that Novak is the better player...He certainly is a better shooter..But Novak does add value spacing the floor when he isn't actually contributing offensively..But it will be pretty hard to justify playing time for Novak in the playoffs if he can't get a shot off in the face of pressure...Novak's defense is still horrendous..If Copeland gains confidence, he can help a lot more in the playoffs...

Copeland is on a nice little run, but I always feel Novak's shot is going in even when he's off.

Chuck I believed the same thing about Novak, until I noticed in big games against good defensive teams, he isn't found making anything from downtown in the 4th qtr.

You have to have ice in your veins to shoot the ball in those types of games against that kind of competition. I haven't seen Copeland or Novak show me that as of yet.

At the end of the game and you need a last shot, you keep Novak on the floor as perhaps the 3rd option. Melo will get doubled, or JR has an epiphany and Novak camping out will make teams pay for leaving him.

Guys like Korver, Miller, and Novak seem to help teams and come playoff time you need this skill set.

Copeland is earning his way into the NBA.

Teams find players like him all the time but we don't follow them as close. They are playing for two year deals. I hope he can get one. Just might not be us.

There's plenty of minutes available for both of them, especially if Brewer continues to play like trash. Even with Amare coming back soon there's still plenty of minutes available at the backup 3 and 4 spots.

Definitely. What if we could get Andy V from Cleveland??? Or Milsap from Utah??? We wouldn't be better with Copeland filling Novacks Offensive threat off the bench roll and one of those guys???

Just saying.

The only way Cleveland or Utah would agree t trade Verajao/Millsap for Novak and Camby is if you kidnapped their GM's families and threatened to murder them and even then I'm not sure they would agree.

OK...I'm lost.

Not sure I understand how Copeland impacts Novak?

Whats wrong with having both?

They both play multiple positions, and are solid roll players with no bagage or chemisty issues.

Copeland can play SF, PF....Novak can play SF, PF

Why talk about getting rid of these guys, when you need to ADD more guys like them. Good character guys that understands their role, and happy with whatever role they get. Versus players like Smith, who will continue to complain about being the 6th man, and wants to be a starter. Smith who still have a partying / decipline problem, and he's a hot head. (If anything, you trade Smith the hot head for another good character gunner, thats happy to be a 6 man off the bench for a championship team).

It's hard to talk about anybody being expendable, when you have the best record in the east. Compared to the terrible decade of basketball us Knick fans had to deal with.

This is a great problem to have.....Enjoy it while you can.

To put it simple, you play the hot hand.....This just gives Copeland more minutes now. Novak is still a specialist, he's not going anywhere. Copeland is a Melo-lite.....I believe he's a keeper as well. Novak is playing better defense too, so his game is expanding as we speak.

I'm a huge Copeland fan...I'm a huge Novak fan. I would hate to see any of these guys go. Smith on the other hand, I would trade if it brings back good value. But he's been playing under control this season, and filled in nice when Melo is hurt. But Smith is too jump shot happy to carry a team. Copeland is one of the few players on the team that can play inside and out.

Keep the good character guys, and trade away the selfish, me first guys. The good thing about this team? We have vets like Kidd to help shape these selfish players into real team players!

How can any New York Knicks fan misspell a players name three consecutive times?

Everybody has a role to play. Why mess with success?

I don't know about that.

Let's say the knicks traded Camby to the Warriors For Rush and a 2nd Rounder
Then the Knicks traded that plus Novack for Milsap, you saying that can't happen??

Just wondering if the team could be stronger.

Blkexec, you're attached to good guys, I remember Mangenius having that view for the jets before we ran him out. 10-11 players should be the most that play on any team, if you get better by moving some redundant players, you should.

Anji - what about the personalities, cohesion and continuity (for a change) in the locker room and on the road?

Bring in new guys and you take a step back in team building with introductions, rotation changes and defensive accountability.

No thank you. We are 19-6 not 6-19.

Not saying they should or shouldn't make a move, but Woodson was a part of a pretty good team that decided to trade for that Fabled crazy man "sheed"...........and the rest is Championship history.

What does Brandon Rush do for anyone in that scenario? I also don't think you bring in Millsap when you already have Amare and Melo.
