Knicks · Wish we signed Belinelli over Brewer (page 1)

gunsnewing @ 12/20/2012 12:36 AM
Could have used his ability to space the floor for Melo and Amare. I was hoping the Knicks used the vet min on him over Brewer who Chicago couldn't wait to get rid of fast enough as he was underwhelming as a starter for Drose.

I know Shump is going to be back but we don't know how effective he will be this year and we can always use a pure shooting 2 to space the floor. I didn't think we'd afford him but he virtually signed for the vet min. Chicago knows what they are doing

yellowboy90 @ 12/20/2012 1:12 AM
I think Brewer is going to be ok eventually and will play better. Also, Amar'e is coming back and will take some of his minutes. Teams are sagging off Brewer and they will stay on STAT and those potential shots at the rim Brewer passes out on Amar'e can finish
gunsnewing @ 12/20/2012 1:29 AM
I guess it worked out because with Amare missing the start of the season forced Kidd into the starting lineup and Brewer to SF and Mel to PF. Once Shumpert returns Brewer will fall behind prigs, wallace, camby, KT and Cope in the depth chart. Might be able to bring him back on the vet min next year as an emergency backup SF. He won't get more than the $1.4 vet min

Not me. We won't see Ronnie Brewer's true value and/or overall importance until we're going against a team such as Miami come postseason play. Brewer himself has neutralized (or contained) Wade better and/or more efficiently than any defensive player in the game today. He also doesn't foul sending these guys to the free throw line for easy buckets either. Makes elite offensive threats work harder than a dog for each and every shot attempt.

I can't find the link online, but heading into the season there was an outstanding article pointing out (with actual statistics) how Brewer has had more success when guarding Wade than any defender in the game today. Wish I could find it, because it's an amazing read into Brewer's defensive ability.

As Jason Kidd stated, this is only rress rehearsal (in regards to the regular season). We'll begin to see Brewer's true value once we're able to throw J.R Smith, Iman Shumpert and Ronnie Brewer on Wade for 4 quarters strong come playoff basketball along with being able to throw Brewer on LeBron while keeping Melo fresh on the offensive end and/or out of foul trouble on the defensive end. All I know is, Wade will have to work like a dog just to get off shot attempts against the likes of perimeter defenders such as Shumpert, Brewer and J.R Smith.

In closing, Brewer was a move not to become our starting 2G during the offseason, but in order to close the gap on Miami. There is no question about it, his perimeter defense will become very intensifying come postseason play.

we need defenders and guys who don't need to shoot the ball. melo, kidd, jr, novak is enough shooting. we need guys who want to get dirty and brewer does that.
holfresh @ 12/20/2012 8:35 AM
Defense over offense everyday and twice on Sunday...Brewer is a well rounded player that does the intangibles..Defense and rebound is what will help us...Brewer can start or come off the bench behind JR when we are all healthy...
DurzoBlint @ 12/20/2012 8:37 AM
just wish Brewer recognized his limitations. He is often trying to do things he lacks the tools to accomplish like shoot off the dribble or, make a mid-range jump shot. Just stop it already.
ChuckBuck @ 12/20/2012 8:48 AM
Sorry can't agree. Any scoring we get out of Brewer is a bonus. He's part of the grand scheme of things, defense first mentality. Brewer was signed strictly as insurance for Shumpert, and to allow JR is natural scoring ability off the bench. I'm sorry, but Marco Bellinelli cannot guard 3 positions like Brewer.

i think i'd prefer fishlips 2.0 - lite makes it sound like he's not as good haha.

we'll complain about him here until we play the heat again and Brewer, once again reminds us why he was brought in.

lol was thinking the same thing. I can't deny he will be useful vs Lebron. Not sure if he will play once Amare and Shump get back tho.

He becomes steve novak but better!

I understand he is white so he must not play defense but it didn't stop the best defensive team in the league, the Bulls from picking him up!

+2 Brewer value will be enhanced once we get our full roster healthy....

DurzoBlint @ 12/20/2012 10:36 AM
He just needs to know his limitations and stop trying to play outside them. Dude should never attempt a shot unless it's the corner 3 or, he's directly in front of the basket with NO ONE anywhere near him. Even Jarad wasn't as bad as Brewer is when it comes to finishing at the rim.
NYY1NYK2 @ 12/20/2012 10:36 AM
Are you outta your mind? Bellinelli plays 0 defense. Watch the miami game, and observe brewer guarding lebron and eventually blocking him. Bellinelli couldnt guard lebron if he wore pippen's shoes

He sucks on Defense! the reason why he has been getting inconsistent minutes is because of his D. He is only playing now because team has no depth at the 2 guard
