Knicks · David Lee is turning into MVP candidate (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 12/22/2012 12:44 AM
Bottom line the guy is so vastly under rated. Top 3 passer for big man top 3 rebounder great scorer with high %
NumberTwoPencil @ 12/22/2012 1:12 AM
Part of it that Curry/Jack/Jackson are running the GS offense to take advantage of Lee's skills and minimize his weaknesses--good point guarding and oddly good coaching--but, yes, Lee has my vote for a top 5 PF so far this year. He's been very solid overall and he's almost never a liability on either end, regardless of who he is playing against.

I MISS LEE

David would be great on the knicks.

I still don't know what David having a great year has to with Melo though??? I don't see Dat Dat Dat Dat, connection.

Or the point...........

GustavBahler @ 12/22/2012 7:38 AM
Lee started playing D? When did that happen?
MS @ 12/22/2012 7:49 AM
He's always been a great player. His defense isn't great, but being an elite scorer, rebounder, passer combined with a strong IQ makes him one of best bigs in the game.

Last week, everyone was saying the guy isn't a winner its a joke to compare him to Chandler, but their record is identical to ours and we could have locked the guy up on a very reasonable deal had we acted quickly, but Walsh allowed him to play his way into 4MM extra a season. He would have been awesome working with Melo and the guards.

Neither do I but you're the one who brought Melo into the thread.

Are you guys forgetting why David lee wasn't resign, we knew he was good, not exactly good enough to build around.

Had other things been in place, like a pg, a center, and some defensive players, maybe you keep him, but He was part of a losing culture, things had to change and sacrifices had to be made. With lee here we have no goto guy, no melo, no stat, no jr, no tyson, no kidd..

If we had steph curry instead of felton, we would be even better then we are now, and he's good enough to attract other great players

IronWillGiroud @ 12/22/2012 10:09 AM
Amazing, what's even more amazing is that I have him on my fantasy team, everyone is now licking their chops after my squad

Plus I got Curry in the 11th round, because no one wanted to take a fly, what??

Anyway, (also have Jarret Jack), on topic: this reminds us that it's a team game, and it's an art to balance overlap player strengths to cover weaknesses, 99% of guys have a weakness that you build a team around to mask and mesh, the 1% is LeBron and he even bites his fingers, so you need someone on the sideline maybe give him some mittens when he's on the bench

CrushAlot @ 12/22/2012 10:15 AM
I believe Sheridan had Lee at number 4 or 5 in the mvp race this week. Wish MJax had a chance to coach him in NY.
smackeddog @ 12/22/2012 10:50 AM
Up until this season, D Lee has put up monster stats that seemed to have no baring on the outcome of the game (bit like Kevin Love)- always makes me suspicious. This year they're actually winning, so he looks a bit more legit. Still not fully convinced, but I wish him well, he was a good guy and didn't want to leave the Knicks.

I do remember last season nba writers and fans were saying he had a terrible contract and was a bum, but thankfully the Warriors stuck with him. Hopefully Amar'e has a similar return to grace.

NumberTwoPencil @ 12/22/2012 6:14 PM
Regardless of his stats (which are a little better this year but, yes, have been pretty good on awful teams as well), Lee is playing better, smarter, ball this year. No, he's not a serious defensive threat but his off-ball movement is quite good, he's starting to do some tricky defensive blocking moves, mostly with Klay Thompson, and he's doing all the little stuff he's always done but just a bit more efficiently.

...GSW pretty much have the same record as we do...
Yup. And the Warriors are doing it without Bogut (a solid player) and Rush (a solid bench player). They are playing three rookies (Barnes, Ezeli, and Green), two solid role players (Jack and Landry), and then Curry, Lee, and Thompson. That's about it. Jefferson is down and he wasn't contributing much in the first place. Biedrins, Jenkins, Blazemore, and Tyler average a few, like 5, minutes a game. Lee is the old man on the Warriors. I'd be surprised if they finish the year with 50% wins--mostly because one injury to a starter at this point, will hurt--but winning half of their games, considering what they have to work with, would be an accomplishment. Also, assuming things continue to go well, the Warriors are in great shape to refine the team, flesh out the bench, add another PF, and end up a competitive team in the West. They aren't close to having the kind of talent that OKC and the Clippers have but they might get their in a few years. Also, for now, Jackson is getting a lot of the big-picture coaching just right, even if his actual game plans are probably something along the lines of "What Steph said."

tj23 @ 12/23/2012 4:55 AM
His post d is still atrocious but I've always liked him. Definitely underrated.
holfresh @ 12/23/2012 5:10 AM
I'll man up and say I didn't like DLee's game...Totally no D, forsaking his man for the rebound...But I will root for the dude as a former Knick..Still glad we didn't shell out 80 mil for him...Just hope he plays better D...It's a sham and will get expose in the playoffs if defense isn't a tenet of his game...
newyorknewyork @ 12/23/2012 6:40 AM
I respect Lee, He continues to work on his game. When he first came to the league he was considered a tweener who wasn't strong enough or quick enough for PF or SF. Turned himself into a strong rebounder, then worked on his ability to finish around the basket with either hand. Then worked on his 15-18 foot jumper, now it seems he has worked on his ability to pass out of the post and create shots for others.

Wouldn't be suprised if in 2-3yrs he end up blocking shots.

MattSuspect @ 12/23/2012 7:52 AM
I liked D-Lee and preferred him over Stat, but I'd imagine if we resigned him to something reasonable we would have had to give him up in the Denver trade no?

Good point. The Knicks would've traded a rookie Michael Jordan to get Melo if he was around
