I haven't seen Django yet but I feel like Spike's problem has more to do with certain scenes in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction than anything in Django Unchained.
Bingo. Spike was probably offended by the characters in Reservoir Dogs and the "dead n****r storage" scene in Pulp Fiction.
Something that should be pointed out is that Tarantino's character's wife in Pulp Fiction is African American and he uses the N-word.
All of Tarantino's movies are meant to be ironic. That means the violence and vulgarities aren't supposed to be taken at face value.
Tarantino uses graphic content in his movies not to advertise it but to show his viewers how stupid racism and violence really is.

Saw Django today and if you like Tarantino you will like this. As a western he pulls off some of the most intense action scenes in western history. He also pokes fun at lynch mobs and white slave owners. I would say its on par with his take on Jews killing Nazis in Inglorious Basterds (an that's a good thing because that movie was amazing).
Did he cross the line? He certainly didn't hold back. Obviously it was intentional and he spares no feelings, this is a Tarantino movie so don't go into it thinking you are going to see something soft and politically correct. I thought it was awesome, uncomfortable, and thought provoking. He wants the viewer to feel all of these things and he pulls it off as usual. Jamie Fox was unreal, DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz who were also fantastic.
Saw Django Unchained yesterday and I must say it was highly entertaining and some parts even really funny.
Christoph Waltz steals the show once again with some carryover from Inglourious Basterds, and I could not stop laughing at Samuel Jackson's character and lines.
You could've plugged any attractive African American woman for Kerry Washington's role as Django's wife, but she did well once she did get screen time even with the lack of lines.
Leonardo DiCaprio with another solid performance, and Jamie Foxx sells Django's tortured bounty hounter former slave well with a bit of cool and unexpected humor.
This movie is up there with Quentin Tarantino's best works(Inglourious Basterds, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction). Great popcorn flick!

The role Samuel L Jackson played could be an issue with what Spike would have been deemed a disrespect to his ancestors even though he didn't watch the movie himself. I for one didn't like the extremism hatred the Samuel L Jackson character showed to his own people.

I read about this movie when it was in preproduction and really looking forward to it.
I enjoyed it but was over all disapppointed in it. The blood was over the top and the action was not that good.
Not nearly the movie "Basterds" was. The "Kill Bill's" were nonsensical but entertaining.
IN some respects, Tarantino didn't go far enough.
As far as the use of the N-word I did think it was over done. Its just disturbing.
but, the depiction of the slave trade and the hard cold reality of of how slaves were treated was brutal and hard to watch.
I was thinking what spike would have been disturbed at in some aspects its a movie he could have made. Tarantino bought an awful part of history and did not sugar coat it. Not many movies have done this. I don't think he was disrespectful to history. I thought Spike thought he would have glamorized or not depicted the brutality.

I think this has happend many times.
It would appear the character actually ran the plantation and perhaps he was disguested with others.
Over the top? I can't really answer to the accuracy of the character as I have not read up on the subject in great detail nor was present during that time.
