Did you see the screens JJ set for batum, getting him countless open looks from DT going 6-12 from 3pt range.
The same screens he would set for novak that made him the best shooter in the league last season.
Novak has improve slightly as far as creating his shot, but woody just doesn't use novak properly consistantly. With defenses playing him a lot tighter, woody has not adjusted his playbook when it comes to novak..

I dont want to blame anyone else for Novaks problems the last 10 games or so. Its up to Novak to get free and then execute his jumpshot. The bottom line is he has to work to get open and make those things at a 45% clip --thats why he got 12mm$
When you're a jump shooter and you can't free yourself for a jumpshot, that's on the shooter no one else.
Novak had JJ in the playoffs. How'd that work out?
JJ is not the key to Novak's success. Novak is.
Asking a 6 10" guy to run around the court like he's reggie miller or ray allen is a bit much.
I don't see dirk doing that, and novak isn't athletic enough to run amok..He doesn't have the ability to just pull up because he is never the ball handler.
Mrknickshot..JJ was avg something like 12 mpg in the playoffs and had severe knee issues, not to mention the heats defense.
Not making any excuses for novy, but if he's not use correctly, whats the point..He did devlope a better pump fake that free's him up some, but what you guy's asking of him, is little ridiculous..

I am asking that he should sit.
He has missed way too many opened looks recently and he kills us on defense. Negative Sum player until he retrieves his confidence.
Also, teams don't leave him anymore since he can't do much else. Yes he spreads the floor by keeping one defender away from helping but its not enough.
Novak is a decoy for Melo, JR, and PNR for Chandler.
There is nothing else Woody offensive genius can muster.
He should play for MDA-like coach within motion offense.
He need the point who can penetrate and kick or ball movement around the perimeter.
For his sake and for the sake of the team Knicks should look for trading him for rebounder/defender.
Wrong team. He will be great on OKC, clips, Huston, Warriors, etc.
I miss JJ and what he brings
I think screen's off the ball are almost NEVER set since JJ left
The screen could open up options for more than just 1 player if set and used correctly
What Novak actually misses is the combination of
BALL MOVEMENT with constant good PLAYER MOVEMENT *moving the DEF and finding the right angles*
Picks/Screens off the ball *Novak does not get many*
Penetration *player must have high IQ*
UNSELFISH TEAM basketball
When we had a healthy roster
Our starting lineup almost never moves, we just spread the court with 4 shooters, with Melo choosing to post or spread the floor, and Brewer cutting at times with his very limited PT
Knicks lack of ability to set good nba screens is a joke. They have 30 coaches sitting on the sidelines and the only guy who can set an effective screen is KT. The entire world knows when Tyson and Amare are coming up to set a screen. It rarely ever works. Just lack of fundamentals

+1
glad im not the only one noticing this..
I don't want to trade a sniper like novak..weather he's a decoy or not, he's a honest threat.
It's funny how ppl say MDA should adapt to his roster, yet woodson should just dump novak cause he doesn't fit..You just sign the damn guy for 4 mill per..utilize him so you can get your damn monies worth
There is no question but that Woody has FAILED to use Novak the right way. I've posted stills of sets we ran when MDA was here to get Novak open off picks from Jared and that play has been used by Woody but so sparingly that I wonder what he's thinking. He simply doesn't want to change the focus of the plays to incorporate more looks for Novak. There's nothing stopping Woody from doing it but stubbornness. I just don't know what he has against a simple screen or pick for his best 3pt shooter.
I also think it would help Novak's accuracy to get more touches and shot attempts. When Novak is hitting 3's it totally destroys the other teams D and morale.
Novak needs a penetrating PG to get him open shots. Knicks don't have one right now.
The BAD, Novak barely getting any open shots and when he does he seems to be shooting too quick which is effecting his percentage.
The GOOD, guys won't sag off him like they do Brewer so, that's one less guy that will be used to double team Melo. Even as a decoy, he is still a benefit to the team

Yep.
Unfortunately on this team only Sheeed and Kurt have brains to set screens properly for Novak.
Also all Woody sets are targeting ISO and PNR with Novak being a decoy. So it works as designed.

They should try running him off screens, sort of the way Indiana would do to get Reggie free.

Novak is too slow to run off screens like reggie and also can't shoot on the move to well.
