Knicks · Top 10 NBA prospects in college from what I have seen this year (page 13)
callmened wrote:im a big fan of KCP...reminds me of a danny green type
from the video, looks like a less athletic, slightly smaller version of a YOUNG JR Smith *NOT the JR Smith of this year*
In time and development, he could be a poor version of JR but it will take time, experience, and lots of hard work/dedication (on his part) to develop
callmened wrote:shane larkin (PG) will declare for the NBA!
Those are the three guys I would target if we dont move the pick. Shane Larkin Erick Green or Nate Wolters. Impossible to peg one guy down but I think we could be happy with any of the three.

The depth at PG is nice. We should be able to pull a quality PG from this draft no matter what.
RonRon wrote:callmened wrote:@Ronron...just a couple of thoughts1. I know im not BRIGGS but ive played and watch a LOT of college bball. the quality of this draft sucks at the top and bottom. sure there might be some sleeper picks and stars but its too difficult to judge. I just dont think its worth the risk to start trading future picks for a draft this weak.
Reality = we will draft a Euro player and trade them immedicately
2. Amare wont retire and thinks he can still contribute. He feels embarrassed and wants to produce. Third, one can argue in trading Tyson bu it just wont happen. Its a pride thing, knicks brass made so many moves to get the big 3 (tyson, melo, amare) that trading them before their contracts expire would be admitting defeat.
Reality = Tyson, Melo and Amare will not be moves until they are expiring contracts.
3. In regards to JR and the other free agents, I'm not sure what to do. Most likely JR will want more than the $5 million that we can offer him via Birds Rights. JR of course will earn MORE than that due to his great play. Copeland as well has earned himself a solid contract (probably in the $3-5mil range). KMart has played well but hes still old and injury prone. Im not sure how much hell want or earn
Reality = most likely we'll lose JR so knicks have to start thinking of replacements. (SG Foye, Rush). Knicks have to decide if Copeland is worth keeping. They can probably use the $3MLE on him. Once again, the knicks are STUCK due to their salary cap problems. They should be creative (by trading Tyson and other assets) but they wont due to stubbornness.

also like Euro Westbrook and that PF/C from Farmingdale that under the radar like built like AR 2.0
Maybe Walters/Eric Green/ or whoever else that will fall
there are a lot of players that will have potential or/and be able to contribute from mid 20's to mid 30s
There are a lot of Euro players that are picked in this area because of the way the contracts are structured vs 1st rounders, which can be used as an asset or a player to develop
While there are no clear cut "STARS" in the top of the draft, I think this is actually a deep draft for "role players" and under "star" playersAs for Amare, Melo, Tyson
They are no longer our "big 3"
JR has earned that spot as our 2nd man after Melo
While Tyson is starting to break down and it is clear that we play much better with an all round player like Kmart
Tyson's DEF has been under average at best for most of the season, it is not the DPOY standards as Kmart as outplayed Tyson
Now, maybe we need Tyson to step up in the post season, but I think JR is more important to the team than Tyson
I would gladly take Hickson and a vet min player's production, possibly gain a full MLE vs mini MLE in the process, if we can unload him to a team like Portland
Not even expecting the 12 pick back, just to get that exemption like LA got for Odom that turned to Nash
I would be happy with a 2nd round pick or 2 in the processAs for Amare, lets just say he is closer to a 9th man than the "STAR" we signed for 100m
As for Copeland, I think he can get anywhere from 2-5m per year, I am not sure if we have the ability to match the offer or not, but as long as it isn't structured like
Fields deal or higher, we probably should match, but we never know with the Knicks management
Also Copeland has been playing the C with much more success and had the least success at the SF position
He has lack of speed issue, without much hops, but a solid handle
When a Center is defending him, he gets to expose the mismatch while most C's do not have the ability to defend his 3point shot and stop him from penetrating without help
He has been most effective at this position and I think a team like Spur's will give him a decent contract
His DEF and effort has been there, he did a great job vs OKC and Hibbert who is much bigger than Cope
SERGEY KARASEV
GIANNIS ADETOKUNBO
Really like to potential in GIANNIS ADETOKUNBO
See him somewhere between as a tweener between SF/PF with the body/skills of Ibaka/AK47/Gereld Wallace/Hakeem Warrick
On draft sites he is anywhere from early mid round to mid/late 1st round
Athletic/Long/ decent all round skills/including handle with HUGE HANDS for ability to finish/handle the ball/solid defender and shot blocker
If he slips to our pick I think he would take some time to develop as he fills out but he has very high potential
NBA.DRAFTNET has us currently picking Tony Mitchel, basically a 6-8 F like Kenyon Martin but doesn't have the fundamentals/IQ of Martin with insane athleticism...
pierre jackson is cool because he has some offense and hes SO quick
besides draft picks and the mini vet contracts (for old semi-retired players), i dont see the knicks acquiring much talent this off season
VDesai wrote:Yeah Schroeder sounds very interesting. Question is how are the KNicks going to be able to get some new young players? They have almost no draft picks and very few tradeable assets to pick any up.
Luckily the Knicks dont need to draft a star. They just need a solid player who can contribute.
callmened wrote:i saw schroeder play in some random game. hes just a pesty defensive player. not sure how much offense he has. not soldpierre jackson is cool because he has some offense and hes SO quick

We are picking at 24 in a weak draft.
Once workouts hit guys like Shane Larkin and Pierre Jackson are likely going to go higher. It happens every year. Only guys with "issues" fall down to the mid 20's. Schroeder has no hops but has the speed and lateral quickness to be a good on the ball defender. Not much worth taking at 24 in this draft.
- Nerlens Noel is only 206 lbs.- Kansas' Ben McLemore was just 6-3.5 in socks and 6-4.75 in shoes. He does, however, have a 6-7.75 wingspan.
- Victor Oladipo was even smaller at 6-3.25 in socks and 6-4.25 in shoes. His wingspan was a very long 6-9.25.
- Otto Porter was big, measuring 6-7.5 in socks and 6-8.5 in shoes. He has a very long 7-1.5 wingspan.
- Shabazz Muhammad was much smaller, measuring just 6-4.75 in socks and 6-6.25 in shoes. He does have a 6-11 wingspan.
- Indiana's Cody Zeller got a strong measurement of 6-10.75 in socks and 7-0.25 in shoes. However, his 6-10.75 wingspan and 8-10 standing reach are on the small side.
- French prospect Rudy Gobert had the most ridiculous measurements of the camp: 7-0.5 in socks and 7-2 in shoes with a crazy 7-8.5 wingspan and 9-7 standing reach.
- Pierre Jackson, Shane Larkin and Phil Pressey were the only players in the camp to measure shorter than 6 feet tall.
Dwayne Davis
compared to as the right handed James Harden
I couldn't find any videos of him but he would be a big combo guard from what I see with strong ability to penetrate
We need penetration to initiate our offense that would open up the court for our shooters and take away the pressure from Melo
He needs time to develop and getting bigger/stronger without losing his quickness and pick a position that he can defend best as his body fills out with either PG/SG/SF

I agree, definitely a guy we should be keeping an eye on. 16 ppg, 49% from the field (over 41% from 3), over 78% from the line --- those are all good numbers for a 2G, not to mention a 1st-year Div 1 college transfer. Read that he was very solid in Portsmouth too...A sturdy 6'5" 205-225 (depending on what website you're looking at).
Not sure that's the same player in the video that we're talking about though, Ron..Could be wrong -- I'll double check...If JR Smith departs (and I'm already on record -- I want him gone, esp. if we're expected to be saddled with his younger brother, Chris -- that's completely ridiculous -- he didn't earn a perk like that, not after all the immaturity and 2 disappearing acts the last 2 playoffs. That's a concession that you make for a Michael Jordan or a Kobe Bryant -- not JR Smith) -- we really need to be keeping track of all SGs & SFs not only coming out of this draft class but all the ones that may be available to us period (domestic FAs, overseas, etc..). This guy's worth keeping a tab on. If he goes undrafted, he's definitely a guy you bring in for Summer League for closer inspection.
Anji wrote:Pierre Jackson looks like a really good back up point guard.Phil Pressey looks like...........lol, he looks like Chris Paul-lite.
Woh, why isn't he on anybodies lottery board??????? 81st on Draftnet and 28th on draftexpress
RonRon wrote:Really impressed with Pierre Jackson's handle/shot/speed and quickness/ penetration ability to finish/ and court vision/ ability to shoot on and off the dribble
Every draft, there are players that will be doubted/questioned for their size, and he will be one when of his draft classI think Pierre Jackson looks more like a CP3 lite to me, in between the size of Nate Robinson/ Cp3/TJ Ford and lowest Scott Machado??
This little man can ball, he will be a complete steal, and it a TRUE PGAs Cp3 being his highest potential ceiling and possibly somewhere between Isiah Thomas/Ty Lawson/Darren Collison/TJ Ford/Nate Robinson being more realistic
This might be the closest we can get to the toast of Melo/Amare and CP3
Props to Anji for finding Phil Pressey, really think he would be a steal, if we can get him with a middle/late 2nd rounder
Problem is if he isn't selected with a 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder, and he does develop him to a good player and shows promise in 2 year's, he could get a poison pill that can hurt us in the future especially for 2015 FA draft class..
RonRon wrote:I think we all see that Kidd cannot give many minutes at PG at his age especially for next year and the remainder of his contract/as he gets olderWould love to add Charles Jenkins to the roster as well
Especially of Golden State doesn't sign him and he could be a sneaky FA for the minimum in the likes of CJ Watson, John Lucas III, Telafair, Nate, Patty Mills, Watson to keep an eye on as 3rd stringer's
I see him as a smaller Billup's with his ability to shoot the ball
He seem's to have fallen off the rotation with the addition of Jack to GSI really think Pierre Jackson can be a huge steal if we could buy a mid/late 2nd round pick?
If I remember correctly, we cannot buy it because the draft is b4 FA in which we can spend 3m again thoughI like him so much, I think the Knick's should consider trading down for him if we cannot get another pick
Unless King's win a whole lot of games ahead, we won't be getting their 2nd round pick either, top 55 protected from Nate Robinson dealHowever, if Iman show's signs that can play some PG minutes offensively with Kidd's guidance it wouldn't make sense to pick Pierre Jackson and get Jenkin's though
While neither have the size and defensive ability to defend the SG and have Iman creating havok on the opponent's PG's
Little Nathan *probably unlikely with JR Smith/Melo's brawl and now Novak inciddent along with Patty Mill's if available would be great option's as the 3rd stringers
With Kidd here and his lack of speed on both ends, I just don't think it is ideal to have both Pablo and Kidd with their game's and weakness's so similar
some interesting topics here that were done B4 the draft, Olindipo went from being a projected mid 2nd rounder to a TOP pick
While I was high on Pierre Jackson despite his lack of size once I saw him
Too bad we didn't acquire him when we could have probably done so by BUYING his rights for the 3m that we still have yet to spend
Once again, those "2nd round picks" we used for Felton/Camby, 2 for each, in addition to the 2 2nd rounders from GS to get Melo, and the 3 picks for AB will all bite us hard if we suck
It took a couple of years for Donnie Walsh to build assets up, develop players, clear salary cap, and have a plan rather than just overpaying for talent *the traditional Knick* way
He was unable to execute it with Lebron not signing but he would have never done those type of deals that would not protect ourselves the way we did starting with the deal with Melo
All the moves was down hill from there

Boy I wish we moved up to grab Giannis Antetokounmpo before the Bucks draft him at 15, he had TOP 3 potential and would have been the perfect fit for CA with his ability to create for others and defend multiple positions
Instead of using our 2016 draft pick *though Denver has the right to swap* and the other 2 2nd round picks we used for AB
I think these teams, especially T-Wolves, would have traded with us had we offered them our pick at 23, which we draft Tim Hardaway JR with while Rudy Gobert was drafted at 27 who had the highest upside and filled a need in a position that we only had Tyson Chandler at the time, he could have been the Center for our future
Another player was Archie Goodwin who is a combo guard that could play PG and was a product of Kentucky, at the time, produced guards like John Wall and Bledsoe, and BIGS like Cousins, Patrick Pattterson
With that said, I am not sure if we can even get a middle/higher 2nd round pick in this draft, in which I was hoping we can land 2 2nd round picks if we sold him after last seasons ALL STAR break due to his potential with Tim Hardaway JR versus Dion Waiters going at it in the ALL STAR game and in a season game *if we sold him in the summer*
SG was the only position that we already had depth in while we needed upgrades in EVERY OTHER position and young players to develop to be our future but we chose to go for the BIG NAME
Tim Hardaway JR is gunner, just like JR SMith *who was a UFA that we had early bird rights to and according to sources, we "allegedly" knew he needed knee surgery, though he won 6th man of the year prior to his contract and seemed like he figured this out with the guidance of Kidd, Rasheed, Kurt Thomas, Camby and our veterans, who dramtically improved his DEFENSE, ability to create for others/facilitate, and seemed to turned this around prior to his Jason Terry antics and poor performance in the play offs while banging Rihanaa, partying, and smoking pot and doing who knows what other drugs
It was easily the BEST season he had in a contract year and at times, he looked like he was destined to earn a contract upwards of 8m per year on a 4year deal and could be as high as 10-12m deal had he performed in the play offs and NOT get ejected for the Terry incident
Though Woodson's system clearly was ineffective and The Pacer's took full advantage of it as Woodosn didn't make any adjustments and play Copeland more who would have pulled either David West/Hibbert out, just like he did in the regular season, we just might have had a chance vs them
Instead we chose to go for the ISO MELO versus Paul George and Hibbert cheating on CHandler and protecting the rim, which resulted in taking about 30 shots to score 30 pts
Today as I watch Giannes develop, who I was really high on as he clearly had the physical tools to be a SUPERSTAR or at least a LOCKDOWN DEFENDER with great all round skills/playmaking abilities, though he would take 2-3 season to fill out his body and get stronger, I cannot help but wonder what IF we traded with one of these teams, especially with the TWolves who likely would have done such a deal as they were likely rebuilding and could use all those extra draft picks
The draft picks we used to trade for AB really set us back, who Toronto should be giving out multiple assets/picks to take on his contract who was an amnesty target, instead we traded for him with our CAA representatives that pushed Glen Grunwald to do so, even if we didn't trade for Giannes, if we add in another future 1st rounder at time or overpay with another 1st rounder *making it 3 1st rounders and 2 2nd round picks* that is ALL STAR potential, at the time which LaMarcus Aldridge was not very happy with the direction of the Portland Trailblazers or another STAR
1 12 Steven Adams C New Zealand Oklahoma City Thunder (from Toronto via Houston)[a] Pittsburgh (Fr.)
1 13 Kelly Olynyk C Canada Dallas Mavericks (traded to Boston)[C] Gonzaga (Jr.)
1 14 Shabazz Muhammad SG/SF United States Utah Jazz (traded to Minnesota)[B] UCLA (Fr.)
I guess we at least got his Thanasis, who is a couple inches shorter, lacks the length and all round skills, and doesn't have the upside/ceiling of his younger brother

5 C.J. McCollum--reminds me a great deal of Steph Curry--same size a little more athletic also needs to transition to PG but has all of the tools at 6-3.
6. Nerlens Noels--best defensive player in the draft needs a lot of work on the offensive end.
7. Nate Wolters---maybe the best PG prospect in the draft--only held back by some athletic ability issues and wingspan. Plays at his own pace and is a really good passer--will be a better pro PG from a passing standpoint than his shoot first need at SD I could easily move him past McCollum if there wasnt a difference in athletic ability.

1. Kelly Olynck--keeping him here hes the best pro prospect and at 7 feet the only franchise type possibility in this draft
2. Victor Olapido--moved him up to 2. His overall game is just better than Mclemore and Muhhamed. hes a potential NBA all defsnive 1st team type but he can also avg 14-16 points in the nBA
3. Otto Porter--making a meteoric rise in my eyes--he's going to be an NBA all star
4.Ben Mclemore--has shown a real passive side--hes got great skills and talent--but when you play passive like he has the last few games--a red flag goes up. Still talent athletic abilities skills length too much to ignore.
5. Nate Wolters--hey I love this guy--the most under rated player in the draft. He still has bad form on his J but hes the best PG in this draft. He played through pain the last two games and probably came back into that first one when most wouldve stayed out. 6-4 great ballhandler passer hes the Rubio of this draft--not as spicy but better offensive player and just as long. Better athlete than advertised this is no jimmer freddette way off comparison.
6. Cody Zeller--He also shows lack of passion which is darn scary but just like Mclemore size skills athletiscm
7. Anthony Bennett--I had him higher and maybe he should go as high as the 3 position but at 6-7 there will be limits to his game
8 Trey Burke--hes moving up Hes very good Only size keeps him from top 5.
9. Shabazz Muhhamed no lower than this spot
10 Alex Len---Willie Stein is now making a late push but Len is more athletic but this will be a close decision
11 Isiah Austin--if he plays hard works on his body he could end up the best player in draft but his frame is still the type that makes me think underachiever for size and skill set still top 10
12 Marcus smart--He is not the best shooter in the world and hes not a great athelete but has a great body and a diversity of skills
13 Kyle Andersen--another high riser on my list. he wouldve been top 5 out of HS and coulkd be pick 2 if he stays in school next year---he could be a Knick pick at 24-25 if he comes out hes the type wed promise too. Has some Tracy Mcrady in him for sure.
14. Nerlens Noel--I can justify a top 10 pick on him. he was never shaq and this type of injury is just a wait and see. Who will pull the trigger on him--healthy hes top 5 devastating knee injury? His teammate Willie Stein has shown late lottery talent the last few games in his absence.

2018 second round draft pick from Portland
Sacramento has the right to swap its 2018 2nd round pick for Portland's 2018 2nd round pick [New Orleans-Portland-Sacramento, 7/10/2013]; Portland may convey the less favorable of these two picks to Denver (see Portland Debits)

2015 first round draft pick to Chicago
Sacramento's 1st round pick to Chicago (via Cleveland) protected for selections 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016 and 1-10 in 2017; if Sacramento has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Chicago by 2017, then Sacramento will instead convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Chicago protected for selections 56-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Chicago will be extinguished) [Cleveland-Sacramento, 6/30/2011; Chicago-Cleveland, 1/7/2014]

Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Miami protected for selections 31-49 and 56-60 (if this pick falls within either of its protected ranges and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Miami will be extinguished) [Miami-Sacramento, 2/20/2014]
2015 second round draft pick to Minnesota
Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Minnesota (via Houston) protected for selections 50-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Minnesota will be extinguished) [Houston-Sacramento, 9/17/2014; Houston-Minnesota-Philadelphia, 12/19/2014]
2015 second round draft pick to Cleveland
Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Cleveland (via Boston) protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished) [Boston-Sacramento, 2/17/2009; Boston-Cleveland, 9/25/2014]
2016 second round draft pick to Oklahoma City
Sacramento's 2016 2nd round pick to Oklahoma City (via New Orleans) protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Oklahoma City will be extinguished) [New Orleans-Sacramento, 1/11/2010; New Orleans-Oklahoma City, 2/19/2015]
2016 second round draft pick to Milwaukee
Milwaukee will receive the more favorable of Sacramento's 2016 2nd round pick protected for selections 56-60 and New Orleans' 2016 2nd round pick and New Orleans will receive the less favorable of these two picks (via Milwaukee's right to swap Sacramento for New Orleans) (if the Sacramento pick falls within its protected range, then Milwaukee's swap right and Sacramento's and New Orleans' obligations to Milwaukee will be extinguished) [New Orleans-Sacramento, 1/11/2010; New Orleans-Portland-Sacramento, 7/10/2013; Milwaukee-Sacramento, 7/12/2013]; this pick conveyance is the same as the one described in "2016 second round draft pick from New Orleans" on Milwaukee Credits
2017 second round draft pick to Cleveland
Sacramento's 2017 2nd round pick to Cleveland (via Boston) protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished) [Boston-Sacramento, 2/24/2011; Boston-Cleveland, 9/25/2014]
2019 second round draft pick to Philadelphia
Philadelphia will receive the more favorable of Milwaukee's 2019 2nd round pick and Sacramento's 2019 2nd round pick and Sacramento will receive the less favorable of these two picks (via Philadelphia's right to swap Milwaukee for Sacramento (via Brooklyn to Philadelphia)) [Milwaukee-Sacramento, 7/12/2013; Brooklyn-Milwaukee, 6/30/2014; Brooklyn-Philadelphia, 10/24/2014]; this pick conveyance is the same as the one described in "2019 second round draft pick from Milwaukee" on Philadelphia Credits
ANY Picks that are not shown being sent out that are owned by the Sacremento Kings, are owned by the team
========================================================================================================================
So currently their 1st round pick is protected 1-10, Cleveland could own their pick or they could still own it *still could depend on the draft balls*
If the draft pick is picks 11 or later, it would go to Cleveland, if it is before it will be owned by Kings
If makes it complicated to make a trade with the Kings, since they will owe Bulls/Cleveland a pick that is protected 1-10 through 2017 if not by 2017 it becomes a 2nd round pick that is protected 56-60 and extinguished otherwise
Besides the 2019 second round pick to Philly,
basically ALL of the 2nd round picks that they have sent out in trades will NOT likely be conveyed, therefore we can likely trade with them, removing their protections for absorbing the contracts of
Ray McCollum
$816,482
$947,276
Jason Thompson
$6,037,500
$6,431,250
$6,825,000
Carl Landry
$6,750,000
$6,750,000
$6,750,000
or
Maybe even just Rudy Gay
$19,317,326
$12,403,101
$13,333,333
$14,263,566 *player option*
So I would be looking 2 1st round picks, one of which could be TOP 10 in this summers draft and some of their 2nd round picks, of which are predicted to be HIGH/MID range rounders in this summers draft and the next couple of years to take on the contracts of the above players
If we do not get a top 10 pick and it goes to Cleveland this summer, I would be looking at 3 draft picks to absorb the above contracts, along with some 2nd rounders
In addition to the other moves I posted in the Derrick Rose and Chicago trade, along with trading CA in the summer to a contender, I believe we will be able to replenish the lack of assets that we have traded away, utilizing our cap space to rebuild with mainly this year's strong draft and future draft picks along the way, while focusing on player development and coaching/executing the Triangle which will take years to do for Fisher to gain the experience needed *as he is NOT Phil Jackson, maybe bringing in Brian Shaw who is unlikely to resign with Denver as a high payed lead assistant coach to help Fisher, while demoting Rambis to an assistant, and spending some money on trainers and development coaches like
Development Coaches
==========================
Rasheed Wallace/Horace Grant, especially Rasheed Wallace's whos game could translate well in todays game with his ability to post up, shoot the 3pointer, play defense/shot blocking/rebounding/using his body to fight for position, along with Grant who has experience in the Triangle and is still in great shape
Ron Harper or Billups *help our PG's execute in the triangle system and Billups has the same skill set and could also be a very good shooting coach as well*
Kapono *who could be our shooting coach*
Shane Battier/MWP/Scottie Pippen to work on our DEFENSE
Spend money on the BEST TRAINERS and equipment money can buy
====================================================================
Sports Science has improved dramitically and there are so many different philosophies on how to build strength while NOT giving up stiffness/speed/mobility
Especially if we draft Karl Towns who is extremely raw and I think could be Rasheed Wallace's project along with some improved trainers to motivate and constantly work on their games every day
Town's has the highest upside/ceiling but lacks maturity and motivation, if we can acquire many draft picks in this summers draft to go with our pick, so be it
For us to be Championship Contenders we will need to stack up plenty of draft picks
==========================================================================================
Trading for CA would need to be done first for us to trade with The Kings and the lowest I would take for CA would be #1 1st rounder if it is the Pelicans and all 3 of our 2nd round picks in addition to a combination of talents like
Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones, Cory Brewer, and Kostas Papanikolaou *unguaranteed contract*, all of these players could be shipped out in the near future, possibly right away just like Denver did when they raped us in the trade who was able to get a 1st rounder for Felton, 2 1st rounders in MoSgoV, and easily can trade Wilson Chandler if they want and if Gallo's injuries are done, he could possibly be traded for a pick as well, on top of the 60m we helped them save in salaries/taxes that year, and 1 1st round pick, 1 swap 1st rounder, and 2 2nd round picks that were Golden State's *at the time were projected to be HIGH 2nd rounders*
I simply do not believe that we will be Championship Contenders and admitting it and cutting ties with CA to a contender, while collecting as many young players/draft picks as we can to the highest bidders to free cap space instead refocus on doing a true rebuild, while signing cap friendly deals that we can either develop to be part of our roster in the future or/possibly sell high/rotate as assets in the next couple of years
In 2017, all these guys along with the players I suggested in my other post, will be expiring deals and we will have the cap space to sign them with the rise of the salary cap or force a trade like we did with CA in 2010, while we will have many more assets if all goes well, especially if we are able to execute a trade with Houston with CA in the summer
If Derrick Rose does recover, just maybe he could return to a 2nd tier STAR status that could be part of our future or be shipped out as a positive asset
Regardless, there are too many teams that are way ahead of us in terms of future draft picks and multiple young players already that will be our competitors
I do not see us being good enough to be LEGIT Championship contenders this summer and this is on draft day we could make some moves that could make us legit contenders a few years from now, for the next decade after
At the best, we could be bottom seed in the East if we decide to sign talents like Monroe and/or whoever, while having a short window on winning with CA's injury being a huge question mark
He lacks leadership to begin with, lacks the ability to create shots for his team mates, and is not a lock down defender or even a good defender
After this surgery he will only get slower and less athletic, likely making him a PF that lacks shot blocking ability on top of it
He isn't a player to be the #1 player to build around at his salary but if he joins a team stacked with talent, even despite his max salary, he could still be a great shooter with a player like Harden drawing double/triple teams, leaving him wide open shots
For CA to be successful to a Championship contender, he need to play with enough talent to allow him to play with the role he did in TEAM USA, which we are unable to do with our lack of draft picks and limited salary
If he is traded to a team like Houston, where there is no STATE tax and he has the trade kicker, he will make much more money and play with the talent needed to contend, making it a win win for both parties
It will be a process, maybe sign Jeremy Lin to a cap friendly deal in the meantime to keep fans coming at decent ticket prices, while being honest in the approach we need to take for the better of the team for the next decade
With teams like Philly and Boston having about 20 picks each in the next 3 years in addition to some high ceiling prospects, we would be following in their foot steps, similar to Orlando when they traded D12 and were able to acquire Vucevic who was a steal in addition to drafting Olindipo and drafting Elfrid Payton who is an upcoming triple double threat with good defense and great size at the PG position similar to Gary Payton, The GLOVE, and if he is able to develop a decent shot/3pter he will have a very good career
While those teams have many young talents/draft picks, if we are able to acquire multiple picks in this draft and replenish picks in future drafts from trades like this and my other posts, we will be able to attract AND KEEP those talents, unlike small market teams
Imagine if we are able to draft our own high potential ceiling players like Westbrook, Durant, Harden, Ibaka, we would be able to KEEP ALL OF THOSE talents and stay in the luxury because we are the MECCA with Dolan's willingness to pay the tax to KEEP THE TALENT, with fans willing to pay top dollars for tickets, beers, and snacks/food, in adddition to Dolan owning his own TV network, profitting much more if we are able to build YOUNG Championship Contenders for the next decade
