The 93-94 #knicks went 5-8 over a 13 game stretch also. 99 team same thing. Basketball season is a marathon folks not a sprint.

I do agree that slumping to 10 games over .500 is not the time to go into full blown panic, but I do believe we can improve the team. We only have two point guards at full strength, that is a big time problem.

I could see all the old guys in the front court working if Amare get's right and can eat up 25 minutes a game. But only having Felton and priggy as true point guards is going to be a killer at some point in the future again.

To be fair, I'd say we all have some sort of emotional investment in the team, as well as time and money. But I agree, the level of criticism seems to suggest people are projecting some sort of other issues onto the team, which I get- it's just annoying and for me, its taking some of the fun out of it, reading people trashing everything all the time. I wouldn't mind, but compared to the last 10 years, this season we have things pretty good.

Owners have more than an emotional investment and they don't count the losses as bad, until the postseason roll around. That's why it's called the 2nd season everybody is 0-0

I remember Kidd said at the start of the season "If you can limit yourself to one three game losing streak in a season, you're going to win a lot of games". Hope we're just getting our three game losing streak out of the way now. Maybe in the next week or two we get Shump back, Felton back and Sheed- that's the kind of fire and defense we've been lacking right there.

Woodson said the goal is to win the division and finish with one of the top 4 records. Rightfully so considering what happen to the Knicks as an 8 and 7th seed the past 2 postseasons

I don't see anybody running away in the eastern conference now.

All teams have injuries, we are having our share of them early in the season.

I can't wait to see the middle of the road guys speak when we come to full strength.

great post. Adds perspective. The idiots will ignore, of course.

That's kinda harsh, dont you think? This team may have similarities, but that's all it is.

Those teams have no relation to this squad at all, just like the teams of the past 10 years.

It's the guys who cheered loud during the 8 game winning streak, and now they question if we will even make it to the playoffs. Just read some of the post that say we don't have a good team. You know the usual suspects.

StarksEwing1 @ 1/12/2013 7:51 PM
Im not in panic mode but im concerned because this team has played mediocre basketball for close to a month now. I understand having a few bad games but its becoming a long trend. Our defense was very good the first month but now its mediocre and we always seem to get off to slow starts in this stretch and have to claw ourselves back and fall short. Shumpert should help bigtime if healthy and felton should be back in 2 weeks BUT the knicks have to start winning games now
dk7th @ 1/12/2013 8:22 PM
we have to win the division and we have to be a first or second seed. the odds get steeper reaching the finals for third seeds and then much steeper after that. i read somebody saying 4th seed will be sufficient. that won't fly.

no need to panic but you have to be concerned. we are an old team. it will be a miracle if we reach the playoffs intact. camby and sheed's feet are like sandcastles. kidd has already had back spasms. love the veterans but it would be better to have some leadership among the younger players... and we just don't.

then there's the chemistry issue. we seemed to have it earlier and now we don't. it was mentioned that teams have figured out how to beat us and i have not seen any adjustments. "wait until x gets back." it's not about that. it's about what you see with the players who take the most shots. are they smart, clever, shrewd, adaptable, poised. they haven't manifested this. especially poise-- nobody among felton or melo or smith exhibit poise and that is the worst part of the situation-- more than injuries.

defense? we started off great and prigioni said after the last good game we had-- it was against the spurs-- that it was the defensive effort that is key to getting the offense to play together. so if we don't play great defense it won't help the offense.

defense and poise should be the mantra for the knicks.

knicks1248 @ 1/12/2013 9:09 PM
Seeding is important, and last years win loss total should be testament as we were 1 game from playing the howardless magic rather then the the heat..

Thats true. I rememebr that last cavs game when the knicks simply didnt show up and it cost us bigtime. It was the only blemish in woodson's 18-6 run
playa2 @ 1/12/2013 9:48 PM
I kinda disagree, winning on the road with a veteran team is easier.

Playing at home puts a lot of pressure on you, you're expected to win even against great defensive teams.

8 game winning streak? Do you mean the 6 game winning streak we had to start the season? Because we don't have any 8 win streaks this year.

playa2 @ 1/12/2013 10:13 PM
Sorry I meant home winning streak .
Vmart @ 1/13/2013 9:01 AM
I just hope the team will be full strength when the playoffs start. Best record will help a lot too. I don't want the Knicks to go into the post season as the team no one wants to play. I want the Knicks to have the best record and be the team to beat. I don't think the fans should go out there and make excuses for the team. Knicks have a lot of players with injury history, there is no way we as fans should feel comfortable the Knicks have been really bad as of late losing to teams they should beat. There is a bad precedence that I see it's almost like if the Heat lose it's ok for the Knicks to lose.
playa2 @ 1/13/2013 10:44 AM
What we do in the 2nd season is all you will remember this year, the reg season won't even mean that much to you.

good post and fair assesment

When you are in the playoffs , most young players don't play like they did in the reg season.

The veteran players know what to expect, the Celtics, the Heat, the rest of these teams will fold under pressure. The regular season is for positioning, but once the games begin the veteran teams are the ones that know how to win on the road.

Yes, the game changes, that is why having strong fundamentals/DEF/philosophy is crucial
Woodson has to be able to adjust to his injuries and philosophies as well
I am not blaming everything on Woodson but we had these problems since our injuries, while he never changed/adapted/adjusted to these changes
And he deserves to be accountable for it, he is stubborn

You cannot have a strong defensive system if 2-3 player's are constantly getting beat and need help, I don't care how much you preach it
TEAM DEF starts with the coverage, players, and abilities of 1v1 DEF
He has had plenty of time with practice to go tweak it, on both DEF and offense where we had problems since our injuries

His unwillingness to admit we need help at PG and a true PF not a Center playing PF, not starting JR Smith when we need his abilities
He is very loyal to his veterans and players, maybe that is why he does not want to cut anyone, but we need help and need to stop the bleeding
Kidd is NOT a PG and we lose his ability to spread the floor playing as the 3rd, sometimes 4th option, and exerts too much energy at the position without being effective is a triple negative

We don't have the ability to spread the floor, ability to penetrate, and play off the double triple teams we first had, so set more screens *off the ball, to free other's up*, run more plays and options, instead of having JR/Melo take poor shot one after another
