Knicks · Sheed might play in London (page 1)

Thought this deserved its own thread. He was quoted as saying "It's cool. I'm good money." when asked about playing tomorrow.
yellowboy90 @ 1/16/2013 9:37 AM
I think he along with Shump should sit it out and have the extra time off. Although, there is something to be said for having a game under your belt fot conditioning because you have 3 days rest after I believe.
MSG3 @ 1/16/2013 11:06 AM
Whelp...Sheed isn't playing after all. Sounds like he thinks he's ready to go but Woodson is holding him out.
ChuckBuck @ 1/16/2013 5:05 PM
PHUCK, possibility that Sheed is done for the year.

K-Mart time?

NEW YORK -- As the uncertainty surrounding Rasheed Wallace's left foot injury lingers, members of the New York Knicks organization fear Wallace will be out for an extended period of time, possibly for the entire season, two league sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

Wallace has been out since Dec. 15 with a stress reaction in his left foot.

Knicks coach Mike Woodson said last week that he hoped Wallace would begin running this week, but he told reporters in London on Wednesday that Wallace, 38, has yet to do so.

"He'll be back -- but when, I don't know. We're gradually trying to get him back where he can run again so he can get back in a uniform. But when, we don't know when yet," Woodson said.

The Knicks are currently in a holding pattern concerning Wallace, according to league sources. There are some in the organization who want to pursue a free agent immediately to replace Wallace.

Among those being discussed internally is 35-year-old big man Kenyon Martin.

Others, including Woodson, who coaxed Wallace to end a two-year retirement and join the Knicks, want to give Wallace time to heal before making a move to replace him.

Wallace's injury was originally described by the team as a sore left foot and he was listed as day to day. The team then clarified and called his injury a stress reaction after a report described it as a stress fracture.

When healthy, the 15-year veteran has provided a strong presence in the post for New York. He's also given them a strong post defender off the bench. In 20 games, he's averaging 7.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.6 minutes.

When the injury first surfaced, Wallace said he'd aggravated a previous foot injury. As recently as late last month, the veteran said he expected to be back on the court.

When asked Wednesday about returning to the court, Wallace said, "It's not my call."

One source said Wallace is having trouble pushing off on his left foot.

"It's not looking good," the source said.

With Marcus Camby sidelined for 2-4 weeks with a left platar fascia injury and Amar'e Stoudemire working his way back into form following offseason knee surgery, the Knicks are thin on the front line.

If the Knicks wanted to add a free agent, they'd have to cut a player currently on their 15-man roster.

Wallace's contract became fully guaranteed earlier this month. All 15 players on the Knicks' active roster have guaranteed contracts.

Information from ESPNNewYork.com's Jared Zwerling and contributor Mark Woods was used in this report.

Just read that on espn. "Stress Reaction" yeaaa ok Knicks

So no Sheed and no Camby for a while. Really need to add Kmart now

Piece a frontline together with Kmart, KT & Copeland

I been on the KMart train for awhile now. I learned not to trust the Knicks with injury updates. They knew he had a "stress reaction" all along but they listed it as a "sore foot".

gunsnewing @ 1/16/2013 5:16 PM
No it went from "Sore Foot"

to "Stress Reaction??????????"

When in reality it is a Stress Fracture.

Anyone know how long players are sidelined for a stress fracture since you can't trust anything the knicks say?
Is it season ending or 8-10 weeks?

Anji @ 1/16/2013 5:39 PM
Stress Reaction is 2-6 Weeks
Stress fracture is 6-8 weeks

Wallace is starting week 5 of being out. It's likely being called a Stress reaction because it can't be seen on X-ray.

So this guy Ian Begley is of ESPN is jumping the gun. Not surprising coming from ESPN
RonRon @ 1/16/2013 5:49 PM
Yeah, I agree, I am surprised we have not called Martin for a 10 day contract to get a feel as where he is now

Also adding a PG that has speed, quickness, decent IQ/DEF/SHOT, to initiate our offense and keep KIDD fresh from those duties
Like Dantoni, Woody is very stubborn and loyal to his players and not a big fan of developing young talent

With

Chandler
Camby

Rasheed Wallace
Kurt Thomas
Amare

they are all closer to Center's than PF's at this point of their career's, or unable to defend PF's, and we just don't need 5 players that play the same position

Wallace has the ability to stretch the offense and has the ability to post up, so I understand keeping him on the roster for playoffs but not this many older players because we need speed/young legs/athleticism for both ends of the game

Martin would be our quickest PF and has shown he can defend and still do a little bit of everything last year on the Clippers
He still has good athleticism and would allow Chandler/Martin/Iman/JR Smith/Felton would be a nasty DEFENSE together
Because Martin is much more mobile than our PF's and better defensively, he would be the help defender, and still hold his own, allowing much more trust/help that Chandler needs
I guess Woody is loyal to his players and has a problem distributing minutes when players are healthy but with our injuries right now, it just makes much sense to give him a 10 day contract, as such a low risk/high reward and he is familiar playing with many of our players on our roster to begin with as team mates before with

Kidd/Melo/JR/Camby/Felton *1/2 season*
Kidd made Kenyon's career and I am sure Kenyon realizes that now, with his age he understands his role but still has enough to contribute at a high level

gunsnewing @ 1/16/2013 5:54 PM
You make a great point. KT, Sheed and Camby are centers at this stage in their careers. We can definitely use more quickness at the 4. Although Amare will be starting soon. Hopefully he keeps the defensive effort/intensity up
knicks1248 @ 1/16/2013 6:09 PM
k mart doesn't bring 1/4 of what sheed brings, kmart has taking a major declined, i mean the guy is sitting home begging for a 10 day contract, which at first he was against because he thought he would get offers..

next im going to here richard jefferson is a better option then brewer

gunsnewing @ 1/16/2013 6:12 PM
Kmart played great D last year in the Clippers game I saw last year.

Reason he is not on a team is because he and his agent refused to sign for the Vet minimum in the offseason. Nothing to do with him "slowing down" he is 4yrs younger than Rasheed, Camby, Kidd. 5yrs younger than Kurt and same age as our backup pg Prigioni

Yeah but he is the only guy to ever play after having microfracture surgery on both knees. His game used to be based on elite athleticism. I haven't watched him for awhile.

That's not the only reason he isn't playing now....

“If someone calls me tomorrow, I don’t care who it is, whether it’s losing or winning at this point,” Martin said. “If someone calls me tomorrow and wants me to come in, I’m going. Guys are going down and [teams] are like, ‘Well, we are going to stick with what we got.’ I’m like, ‘Really?’ I started questioning myself, ‘Am I that bad of a guy?’“

“There is a notion about me that is not accurate at all – I don’t know who started it or where it came from – that people can’t control me,” Martin told Yahoo! Sports. “I don’t understand. Have I had my issues like a lot of other people? Yeah. But I’m getting back that people think they can’t control me, that if I don’t play I’m going to explode, or I can turn a locker room.

“In 12 years there was not one day where I told one guy to dislike anybody. If you ask guys who I’ve played with that know me, they know what it is and know I’m about winning basketball games and competing.”

The Celtics are going to be patient filling their roster because there is not a plethora of quality big men on the market to help immediately with rebounding. They are wary of the attitude and disposition of Kenyon Martin, who was not asked back to the Clippers because of his unhappiness with coach Vinny Del Negro. They may wait to see who’s available as of Jan. 5, when contracts become fully guaranteed for the season.

Everytime I seen the clippers he played well. He hit the mid range shot(which is weird because he sucks at FT's) and defended well. He even saved like 3 clipper wins with his defense. What surgery he may have had in the past means nothing as long as its not hurting him now. We need to play better D as a team and KMart will help us with that goal. I am tired of watching Novak getting torched nightly.

so the clippers just gave up on a healthy productive kmart..yeah right..

sheed was healthy coming in, now look at him and camby..

IronWillGiroud @ 1/16/2013 8:25 PM
I don't know if we could consider Sheed healthy coming in,

guy's 38 and a year or two out of the L, to be honest I'm surprised he saw any time at all, it was a fragile skeleton waiting to turn into the dusts of history
