Knicks · NBATV Blackout question (page 1)

CrushAlot @ 1/18/2013 7:52 PM
The Nets are being broadcast on both nbatv and YES for me tonight. When the Knicks are on nbatv the game is always blacked out if it is broadcast on MSG. Does anyone know why that is?
3G4G @ 1/18/2013 8:22 PM
Might be Local and Nat coverage issue. Like if you live where there is local coverage of the team or within the regional coverage area then it may stand a chance you won't be able to see them outside of this because of the Local deal vs Nat deal.

Like I know of individuals who can't watch Wolves games on NBAtv, they don't live in Minnesota but near... Iowa. Iowa probably encompasses regional coverage. The Wolves games are televised often on Fox Sports network which is picked up on the local cable service where they live.

I think you are right but I get the Yes feed already and I am still getting the NBATV feed. For the Knicks nbatv is blacked out because it is on msg. My issue is because I live upstate and MSG shows the Sabres and blacks out Knick games. If the Knick game is on NBATV it is still blacked out despite not being shown on msg.

I'm in Western NY and there is a spillover channel for MSG when Sabres are on, check that out.

That's my point YES and MSG probably have unique local/regional coverage that requires networks like NBAtv/NFLnet/NHLnet to only have certain rights of broadcast. Wouldn't surprise me if MSG has exclusive rights of broadcast to a certain locale/region...you may live within that scope. Meanwhile YES could be more open, that I'm not sure of as I haven't heard of Jersey residences complaining about coverage, although dollars to donuts there are some that do have issues.

Martin do you have msg plus? I have friends 5 miles away that have it and that is where the games are bumped to. I am not able to add that to my cable line up where I am. They do bump the games sometimes to the shopping channel or the local twc sports channel but it is frequently just blacked out.

Yes, it is MSG+, that's the spillover for my area.

Martin, whos your cable co?? Directtv doesnt bump the Knicks offa MSG,Sabres are the second option up here in Lockport.
CrushAlot @ 1/19/2013 4:20 PM
I contacted cable and asked for them to look into offering msg +. They said they didn't think they could so I am probably switching back to direct tv. It is pretty ridiculous. I am 7 miles outside of rochester and 3 miles outside of Henrietta, and I am in Monroe County. However, my cable comes from Batavia and is a Buffalo line up. I pay them a lot of money mainly to watch the Knicks so I am not going to waste my time. I already had the game Lin returned to MSG blacked out because they were showing a Sabres Classic game on MSG.

Martin is right, when the Sabres hijack MSG I have to watch the game on MSG2.

I have no idea why the Sabres don't have their own channel network and they are local, the knicks aren't local knicks are 8 hrs away, why do they bump knicks games when the sucky Sabres play hockey ? They could drop SNY and put the sabres there.

They used to have their own channel but I believe it went bankrupt. I think that was when the Sabres were sold. I know they have been sold once or twice since.

Holy crap, didn't know you were so close. I'm in downtown Roch. You don't have Time Warner Cable?

I got the digital HD plan so when it's not on 1043, try 1026 or 1093.

I have Time Warner. I am in Scottsville. I get the Knicks on 1043. Pretty wild that you are that close.

We might want to do an upstate UK get together sometime. Distillery or MacGregors or something. I am going to the Bronx quite a bit as my sister is very ill in Calvary Hospital but as spring gets closer it might work out.

1093 has been very consistent spillover for me... you don't get that one?

Directv is the way to go if your a sports fan and have league pass, they air both teams telecast in HD, your not force to listen to the other teams commentators. I switch to comcast because they offered a package 9internet, phone and some other decent stuff)..Funny how it started out cheap, 6 months later Im paying the same amount with DTV with no HD.. as soon as the final buzzer, well, thats it for you, no post game, no highlights, no tina..fckng sucks man, Im definitely switching back in 6 months (contract obligations)..
jrodmc @ 1/21/2013 10:22 AM
Holy crap! The channels really go up over 1000 now? No wonder TV costs almost as much as a mortgage payment.

I thought there are free streams from overseas for almost all NBA games?
