I am loving what has happened thus far but just had a thought.
We beat the Hawks tonight while allowing them to shoot 60% from the field in a high scoring game where both teams scored over 100.
One of the big factors in winning is that the Knicks shot basically 60% from downtown 16-27.
No defense. Tons of 3s. Where have we seen this movie before?
Felton being back is the reason we shot so well from 3. Just like early in the year. Ball movement and open 3's. Difference is this time we have Amare cleaning up on the glass. Interior defense will sure up on Sheed and Camby return

This is like looking out the window, waiting for Santa to arrive. Sure hope somebody gets here soon. 16-27 from the 3 point line doesn't come along that often.
It's not going to seem funny come playoff time if this is the D we continue to play. A win is a win, but our defense has completely disappeared.
This is funny.
We hit threes, we're Danphony douches.
We miss threes, we're stagnant iso Melodouches.
We don't have an offensive force in the post. Yet. (Stat, how's the knees, back, hands holding up?)
Lots of our players are hot and cold from the outside.
I'm enjoying this season. Except for the BadKarmaRockettes, we don't get blown out. Okay, so we tossed the Sixers a bone. Half the season over, 3 really bad losses.
I'm a Knicks fan. I'm a StarMooby. I'm a homer. Call me whatever name will salve your inner hate while we ride along.
There, there, It's okay.

Yes, Woodson has adapted parts of the MDA playbook.
Fact is we shoot the 3 pretty good. Melo leads the league in shots taken.
And the wins keep coming. Could MDA have done well with this roster? Who knows.
I got slamed by the Dolanites and StarMooby's for suggesting this and the "Fableistic" tendancy was to digest as saying "MDA" won the game. Not at all, we are past that.
Remember Woodsons legacy as understudy to Larry Brown. Larry is UNC alum, so is Felton, and Larry also coached Felton. Woodson gets Felton. Woodson then coached the ATL and did a very good job but if anything he was not overly creative on offense. His completion was an abbreviated stint under MDA and its all very easy to understand elements of Bobby Knight, Larry, and MDA will find its way into his style.
Its far from MDA but when you have good shooters you spread the offense out and nice things happen.
Maybe Woodson even got "find the open man" from his year with Red!
Woodsons Beard still freaks me out. My Plasma TV does very deep blacks. His beard is not human. Its an abyss.
Poor defense is a part of it, but also factor in teams seem to be pumped to play us too- they just seem to be on fire. I've watched teams hit everything vs us, and then the next game against another team they go back to shooting poorly.
I'd love for us to become more intimidating, just so teams don't come in thinking they're going to show off or look good against us.
Just to clarify the point of this thread, at least for me, wasn't to say that the sky is falling and bemoan the fact that we're shooting a ton of 3s.
I just found it funny that after all the talk about
"You can NEVER win a championship playing MDA ball"
"Defense wins championships"
"Chucking a ton of 3s is NOT a game plan"
blablablablabla
Outside of that first month of great defense, we're having a pretty successful season basically shooting a TON of 3s and playing pretty subpar defense.
Perhaps Pringles biggest mistakes were
- not communicating with his players, especially THE franchise player
- not having damn point guard to run the pick n roll like Felton/Chandler
I bet it would be pretty amusing to go back through some game threads during the MDA regime. I'm pretty sure there's a decent amount of overlap and some of the people who were blasting the mediocre defense/tons of 3s under MDA are the same ones celebrating this new completely different style of play under Woody.
I will say this...It is very alarming that we are relying so heavily on 40yr Sheed and Camby to sure up the defense. These guys should be defending regardless. Melo, Amare & Tyson account for $44mil of the payroll this year
Missed 3th and bad rebounding = fast breaks and defense breakdowns.
Woody is switching everything and ignoring mutchups over and over again.
Our points are slow and cannot stay in front of speedy guards and help defense is non-existent.
NBA coaches alreay fugure us out to the extend they have not too much work in games.
WE are so predictable on offense and bad on difense that hard to see how good teams can lose to us.
This team should get back to how they played in Novender only better.

We do still have a pretty good record so I don't know if it's THAT bad.
We've been a .500 team since Rasheed went down. Felton being hurt had something to do with it. Kidd doesn't look 100%. We're working Shump/Amare back. Something looks wrong with Tyson too.
I dunno if that's 100% to blame but over this .500 stretch I do see what you're talking about with gettinga bit too iso heavy on offense and gift wrapping teams mismatches with the constant switching/no effort to fight through screens on defense.
