Well, guess what?

4 out of Melo's 6 first round exits came against the likes of dynasty era squads. Kobe and the Lakers (x2) along with Duncan and the Spurs (x2). But yet it's now Melo who's made out to be some type of career postseason loser by the likes of TKF? That's nice to know, because I've noticed through post history/pattern, that these types of critics refuse to acknowledge the fact that both Kobe and the Lakers along with Duncan and the Spurs combined for 4 championships before Carmelo Anthony was even drafted into the NBA. Kobe and the Lakers along with Duncan and the Spurs both had two championships (a piece) by the time Melo even played his first NBA game as a Denver Nugget.

All of this (current) talk about Gallo playing in such a tough Western Conference is nothing more than a hypocritical joke. A joke in which is driven by a nasty agenda. Aimed right at the head of our very own Carmelo Anthony. When they speak of this so called tough Western Conference because of Kevin Durant and the Thunder? It's a head shot at Melo. They fail to mention how it's after Kobe and the Lakers/Duncan and the Spurs have both aged and/or are longer in their prime years. Which wasn't the case for Melo or his Nuggets.

They'll hang Melo due to first round eliminations, but yet no mention on how the Cavs under LeBron James failed to land a single trip to the postseason (during the trash years of the Eastern Conference) during LeBron's first two seasons in Cleveland? You know, during the same time period in which Melo was going to war against the likes of Sam Cassell, Wally Szczerbiak, the great Latrell Sprewell along with Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves during Melo's rookie season? What about as LeBron watched from home during Melo's second postseason as the Denver Nuggets went up against Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry, Manu Ginobili, Glenn Robinson, Time Duncan and the Spurs? During only Melo's second NBA season after only one season of college experience? Yea, right. Some loser this Melo kid was. If only LeBron started off in the West and/or never joined forces with both Wade and Bosh in order to escape the Eastern Conference and/or finally win it all.

First round loss against Sam Cassell, Wally Szczerbiak, the great Latrell Sprewell, Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves during only Melo's rookie season, but yet, no mention of this?

A first round loss against Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry, Manu Ginobili, Glenn Robinson, Tim Duncan and the Spurs during only his second NBA season? Why isn't this being talked about when harping all over Melo's postseason history?

Not to compare Melo to LeBron, but as Melo once again, faces off against the Dynasty Spurs (58-24) during only his 4th NBA season (1st round) LeBron James gets to face the 41-41 Wizards during the first round? No mention of this?

What about during his 5th season where Melo's Nuggets went up against Fisher, Kobe, Odom, Gasol, Phil Jackson and the 57-25 Lakers in which met the Celtics during the NBA Finals while LeBron (once again) gets the Wizards during the first round before losing to Boston? And, in case you weren't following what's taken place here... LeBron the year before, got swept by the Spurs 4-0 during the Finals. No mention of none of this when in regards to speaking Melo's first rounder's?

In 2008-2009 as Melo once again runs into the 65-17 Lakers (this time during the Western Conference Finals) after eliminating the 49-33 Hornets with CP3, Peja Stojakovic, David West, Tyson Chandler along with 50-32 Mavs with Kidd, Terry, Barea, Josh Howard and Dirk... LeBron James gets the 39-43 Pistons during the first, 47-35 Hawks during the second round before losing to the 59-23 Magic during the Eastern Conference Finals. No mention of this from the likes of TKF talking up LeBron/Gallo and/or while bashing/harping all over Melo as if he's some type of career loser due to the situation(s) he was drafted into?

You can consider LeBron a greater overall player, but never consider him a greater leader when compared to Carmelo Anthony. Because he's not. Being drafted into the extremely weak East followed by running to South Beach with Wade, Bosh and Riley doesn't make you a great leader. And nowhere near as battle tested as Melo currently is. As of right now Melo is battle tested and stronger than ever. He's gained so much postseason experience against all-time greats and/or dynasty era teams of the Western Conference. LeBron James has only fought through the extremely weak East before having to join forces with Wade and Bosh in order to win his first (and only) Championship during a shortened season. Those postseason experiences in regards to Melo are priceless when in regards to moving forward.

Notice when we started to improve DRASTICALLY? Notice when Denver started to decline slightly?

Compare percentages, folks. It's really not that difficult.

That 09-10 year was the one with the most potential but Karl had his battle and the team feel apart. Oh well.

Weren't those declining yrs Melo era? So you're being technical over some low winning percentage pt differences? Here's what I gather from this data...The Nuggets post Melo era won as many playoff games in 2yrs than Melo led Nuggets won in 4yrs.

Let that sink a little bit

Right. As if losing 3-4 to the Lakers and 1-4 to the OKC Thunder during two first rounder's is some type of accomplishment under Gallo and/or knock on Melo. Try a little bit harder next time. One could argue that Gallo's current Nuggets are still enjoying success in which was created by Melo himself. If not for Melo becoming such an NBA star, no NBA front office would have ever gave up Gallo, Chandler, Anthony Randolph, Mozgov, Curry + draft picks for Melo himself. If anything Denver fans should be thankful (for Carmelo Anthony) that New York was willing to "sell the farm". Forget to include Felton during the trade as well. That's how great Melo was. One could also argue that Gallo's current Nuggets are still enjoying success in which was created by Carmelo Anthony himself. The uniform change and logo change during Melo's rookie season. The franchise/culture change dating back to Melo being drafted third overall. Etc, etc. This man completely changed the entire culture of Denver basketball while leading them to their first Western Conference Finals appearance dating back to 1984-1985.

But why are you using such a small sample size when trying to compare Denver before/after Melo? A handful of games? Come on, you're smarter than that. Agenda getting in the way, much? Lets actually talk before/after (Melo) when in regards to Denver as an NBA basketball franchise.

During the 8 seasons before Melo arrived for his rookie season in Denver, the Nuggets combined for 8 consecutive losing seasons while also missing 8 consecutive trips to the postseason, no Western Conference Finals appearance with a combined losing record of 200-424. That's 224 games below .500 during 8 years before the drafting of Melo third overall.

vs.

During the 8 seasons after Melo arrived for his rookie season in Denver, the Nuggets combined for 8 consecutive winning seasons while also landing 8 consecutive trips to the postseason, a Western Conference Finals appearance with a combined winning record of 388-268. That 120 games above .500 during 8 years after the drafting of Melo third overall.

That's a 344 game turnaround when comparing before/after Melo during an actual 8 year period. An average of +43 wins per season when comparing before/after Melo in regards to Denver's franchise.

Let that sink a little bit.

the nba has 10-12 too many teams-- it is a bloated league-- and there is a consequent dilution of talent.

the first round of the playoffs are nothing but revenue generators. the 6th and 7th seeds in either conference are as close to mediocre as can be imagined and yet that very mediocrity is rewarded with a trip to the playoffs.

please remember that the playoffs are intended to showcase truly superior teams.

there's a reason a supreme talent like lebron colluded, a team like the lakers (west gave them gasol) or celtics (mchale and ainge for garnett) got all gm buddy-buddy to get their success, and a team like the mavs went way over budget.

melo's post-season accolades mean very very little. he simply made a loser into an also-ran.

Trades have many dimentions to them.

We "won" but I can't say Denver "lost".

Seems both teams are winning!!!!

Seems Melo got what he wanted and Denver is not concentrated on one max contract for a player that did not want to be in Denver anymore.

I can agree with this and perhaps this may be an accurate assessment. I'd have to see what Denver did with the pieces they got from NY.

I just don't get why people feel the need to recycle discussion regarding the Melo. trade month after month after month. My God!

He played a full season in China and got hurt here(IN The NBA) late in the year after the lockout ended.

This was in response to him being hurt the entire time since being traded.

I think people are referencing that Chandler has been hurt while on an NBA team's payroll most of last season and the current one. We all know he played in China and I don't think anyone puts much stock in that.

We could use a Wilson Chandler over here.

Isiah was a great evaluator of talent.

Wilson Chandler has been mired on the bench / injured for most of the last two seasons (like 95% of the time inactive). I don't hear a peep about ex-knicks when they are irrelevant and/or scrubs but if they have ONE or TWO good games a thread like this pops up as if ONE game sweeps away the massive heap of mediocrity that the player in question has compiled since leaving the Knicks.

Denver doing well does not have any real correlation with the Melo. trade. Denver lost that trade and any sensible person would acknowledge that.

Oh really?

Let me see, they traded present for future, yet they still made the playoffs 2 years in a row and are half a game behind us in the standings while playing in a much tougher conference (this any sensible person should aknowledge).

Read Nuggets blogs (Denver Stiffs, Round mining CO and such), an overwhelming number of Denver fans seem to be really happy about that trade. They know that team, one of the youngest in the league has nowhere to go but up.

So please, help understand how the Knicks won that trade because right now it doesn't seem that clear.

Edit: and to reply about Wilson, that guy has been very unlucky since the trade, but since I watch all Denver's games (boo bad fan raven), I can tell you he changed the way the team plays. When he, Gallo and Iguodala are on the court at the same time, their D is just suffocating. That is still really new and Will doesn't have his legs back yet.

Right now, I see them as a younger, more athletic and less experienced version of the 2004 Pistons.

They are fun to watch and I really love that team.

Thank you, and good post.. People are so quick to keep wanting to try to justify this trade.. if you believe in carmelo then it shouldn't matter what denver does....Denver is young, fun to watch with a bright future.. All of this talk of a go to guy is just ridiculous, they have 4 go to guys.. Gallo, miller, lawson and iggy.. As I said, Denver makes you guard everybody....

As far as chandler goes.. He looked great of late, and when he is on the floor as you said, he just brings another dimension to that Denver team.. I spend time on the forum there and watch all of their games as well... their fans are happy,as well they should be... and knicks fans should be happy and content.. not having to knock what denver does.....

The trade has worked out well for both sides. Denver is a good young team and we got what we wanted which is a championship contending team. Really thought Iggy would be better with Denver then he has been though.

i THOUGHT iggy would be better as well, but he is starting to do a lot of little things that I expected.. we will see how this second half turns out..

All advanced stats show that AI is an elite defender. He's doing just fine.

I really think there is something to playing in altitude of Denver that is a massive home court advantage...Of all the teams that are highly ranked this year and are considered "good"..Denver is the only one with a losing record on the road and it's not even close...They are 10-15...So seeing this, I looked at their win/loss totals every year going back to 2006...They have always had some of the best home win/loss record in the entire NBA yet get bumped in the first round(except one year) all be it by some good Western Conference teams...My conclusion??..Their win/loss record over the years may have been inflated by their location and home court (altitude) advantage...

Maybe the change in altitude of being on the road works against Denver? There are two sides to every coin.

There are two sides to every coin.

not really because athletes train in high altitude to simulate the same effects as blood doping. something to do with the blood cells

I like Denver a lot. I think Kenneth Faried will be a stud and I straight up called it before the NCAA tournament. I thought Ty Lawson would be good but he is much better than I thought. Gallo is a lot to handle at SF. I always thought the Knicks might have to choose between Gallo and Chandler but in Denver he can just enjoy being part of the ensemble.

Anyway, I don't see the Nuggets beating the Clippers or Thunder or Spurs. I will definitely watch the entire first round of their series if they play Memphis or Golden State. I could see either series going down to the last play.

China? I think we only really care abut NBA production.

Read it again...

He played a full season in China and got hurt here(IN The NBA) late in the year after the lockout ended.

This was in response to him being hurt the entire time since being traded.

Wasn't out this year as well?
