Knicks · Shumpert Was Rushed Back (page 1)

gunsnewing @ 2/15/2013 6:32 PM
A lot of fans and media are down on him but remember he was cleared for full contact practice nearly 10 months after the surgery which is fine. However he got what? 1 or 2 practices under his belt? Look at Chicago and Rose. He is not coming back until he is truly 100% and you won't notice much of a drop off.

Of course Shump doesn't have the same lift and lateral quickness yet. He will get there but its going to take some time. Maybe a month, maybe the rest of the year but I confident he will get there. The dumbest thing would be for the Knicks to give him up for another veteran bench player.

Just have some patience with the kid and you will be rewarded. Shut down defender don't grow on trees

This is the Knicks we're talking about so I wouldn't be suprised if they pulled such a dumb move. He is 100% a keeper. After coming off of such a bad injury the kid is playing hard and is still fearless. He probably won't be 100% until next year but watch out. There are at least 2 posterizing dunks he missed that if healthy would have made the top 10 list.
CrushAlot @ 2/16/2013 12:14 AM
Bernard made the point the other night that it is Shump's dominant leg that was injured. It seems like he has extended it too far on several occasions. If nothing else, he doesn't trust that it is totally better yet. I hope the giant sock he wears on that leg helps. Iman is too big an asset to risk his health.
gunsnewing @ 2/16/2013 1:03 AM
Yea Amare wears that same sleave. Just precautionary

Meanwhile, Derrick Rose is enjoying fatherhood

110 per cent is his criteria

Nalod @ 2/16/2013 10:16 AM
I wondering if Rose is kept out so Bulls can collect on insurance? Just thinking out loud.

Shumpert is a year away from being close to the old Shumpert. 1+1 that is the rule of ACL injury. 1 year to get back to playing and another year to get back to playing close to 100%. Mental aspects play a huge role in recovery.

+1 Adrian Peterson is the only guy in a long history of ACL injuries who took less than 2 years to recover.

And he gave credit to his faith in God.

Shump should just keep working on his perimeter game(knocking down 3's) , so when he comes back he would be an all-around complete player offensively and defensively.

Wes Welker was not bad and came back quickly too.

If he could even hit the corner 3 with consistency that would be a huge improvement and would greatly help the team.

Why does everyone say if only he could hit the corner 3. It's not like He's 6'10 like Rasheed spacing the floor. Iman needs to hit open threes all over the court. As well as midrange shots consistently

Bruce Bowen is probably the reason. Also, because it supposedly is the easier three. However in Ny's offenses he will more than likely be in the left and right high wing area.

Only one person(VCoug) said hit the corner three, who's everybody ?

Not singling VCoug out. I here people saying it all the time. It is a misconception. Specialiazing in the he corner 3 is for a guy like Brewer who can't shoot a lick or a big like Shawne Williams/Rasheed to get out of the paint and spread the floor

I'm also pretty sure that I'm not the first or only person to bring it up.

You seem to be implying that Shumpert can shoot. Looking at his numbers his rookie year http://www.basketball-reference.com/play... it looks like he can't shoot a lick. And just watching him should tell you the same thing; he's got talent, he'll be a good defender again when he's recovered, and he's got good athleticism but he really doesn't have anything resembling an offensive game.

I do hate how the Knicks always --- stick guys right back into games after just 1 or 2 full contact practices/scrimmages.

If a guy is coming off a serious injury like Amare/Shump --- get him close and then have him practice for 2 weeks not 2 days before running him out there. I guess one problem is that most of our practices are half speed/ass.

gunsnewing @ 2/16/2013 1:42 PM
most rookies don't come out shooting lights out their rookie year

Lebron shot a whooping 41% his rookie year

The key is to go into Jordan and Lebron mode and work on your game every summer. Basketball is their life. No reason why a rookies skills can't be developed. Unfortunately Shump has had devastating knee injuries going back to his college days. so his progression may be a little slower than others

Nalod @ 2/16/2013 1:44 PM
Not all ACL are the same, not all players are the same, and not all doctors are the same.

Lumping is not smart.

Its not in anyones best interests to rush a player back.

Rose maybe could play but your dealing with a 100million dollar property.
