C'mon, man. Marbury-type? That's pretty loaded.
what's loaded about it? marbury always put up numbers but never really took his teams anywhere. melo in denver? put up numbers but never really took his teams anywhere. melo in new york? he's putting up numbers but if we don't make it to the ECF we are all going to have to face the fact that he can put up numbers wherever he goes and not take his team anywhere.
So Melo went to the WCF in Denver, but that qualifies as going nowhere. He takes us to the ECF, and that's somewhere.
How does that logic work, again?
dk; you, tkf and others just don't like the man. That's purely acceptable. No one's asking you to buy the 7 jersey and wear pompoms, but try to temper the hate.
2004: lost 4-1 to minnie
2005: lost 4-1 to spurs
2006: lost 4-1 to clips
2007: lost 4-1 to spurs
2008: lost 4-0 to lakers
2009: thank goodness for chauncey billups
2010: lost 4-2 to jazz
2011: lost 4-0 to boston
2012: lost 4-1 to miami
the operative phrase in my statement is "never really" which means "for the most part." and if you look at the number of actual wins he led his teams to in the first round it speaks volumes about how overrated carmelo anthony is. it doesn't mean that he isn't a VERY GOOD player-- he obviously is very good and even brilliant on occasion-- but when you have a playoff record like he does it translates to: a player who can't be built around-- which the knicks are trying and looks like failing to do.
not liking him personally doesn't matter very much although issues of character do eventually find their way onto the court both for better and worse. it's really about whether he plays the game the right way, which means playing a winning brand of basketball-- winning means more than shiny regular-season records and first round appearances. these are hollow accomplishments. it's why you are starting to hear rumblings of concern among the fanbase. there is not a single fan who does not expect to make the playoffs and there are yet very few who don't think we can make it to the second round. but most fans expect an ECF appearance.
getting consistently into the second round and beyond is a mark of accomplishment. i have never moved the goalposts since this trade happened.
it's unhealthy how much you and tkf despise Melo, it really is.
Not even touching the obvious, but seriously, how can you put Denver going into the WCF as "thank god for Billups" when Melo was clearly the leader of that team and the main reason they got there in the 1st place?
Let me guess, you're also one of those "Kidd is our real MVP" guys aren't you?
These guys aren't fans my dude, they're nothing more than trolls. They stay inside of the other games threads for a reason. Then pick and choose which threads to troll with Melo venom. They hate our greatest Knick since Patrick Ewing of his prime years, they love Gallo with all their little hearts, they'll talk about Melo's failures 24/7 while completely ignoring Gallo's failures at the same time. They did it at RealGM. They're doing it here.
Let's not even compare the likes of Mozgov, Curry, Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph and Gallo's career numbers, overall success and/or accolades. Because this is what it all comes down to. They hated the trade. They want nothing to do with all of the above. At least Melo's had the leadership ability along with overall talents to lead his teams to the postseason each and every season. Can't win a championship without first knocking on the door ala landing a trip to the postseason.
08-09: No playoffs.
09-10: No playoffs.
10-11: First round loss (1-4).
11-12: First round loss (3-4).
No mention of this? Nope.
They'll ignore how Gallo, during a game 7, only went 1/9 from the field with only 3 points and 4 turnovers. Silent as a lamb. Quiet as a mouse. Awful performance and the sole reason why Denver's teammates were eliminated by 9 points during a win or go home situation. And this overrated soft player in Gallo actually goes (chokes) with not only 1/9 shooting but also only putting up 3 points and 4 turnovers? Patheitc under the pressure during a clutch situation. No mention of Gallo's postseason failures and/or awful postseason performance(s).
Wanna talk about NBA accolades?
Gallo: Nothing.
Melo: NBA All-Rookie First Team. NBA Rookie Challenge MVP (2005). FIBA World Championship All-Tournament Team (2006). 4× All-NBA Third Team. 1x All-NBA Second Team. 6× NBA All-Star (2007–2008, 2010–2013). 2x American Gold Medalist Olympian.
Melo may win the scoring title this season as well. Currently ranked #2 behind only Kevin Durant.
But yet we're the Clowns. Losers. Homers and/or the fans who support our greatest Knick since Patrick Ewing while rolling our eyes at a soft European player who can never be on the level of a Dirk, let alone a LeBron/Durant/Melo.
