Knicks · It's obvious the ball isn't moving (page 2)

You know, for someone who has been right on so many things regarding the Knicks and someone who is an aspiring future NBA GM, you would think people would listen to me more instead of insult me.

I told you Woodson sucked when he was hired as an ASSISTANT. Nobody listened.

Why are you bringing up MDA? This has nothing to do with him. Woody has been in charge and this is really not working. You can bash MDA all you want but this team was winning early this year when it was running MDA's style of BB, with Ball and Player movement, PnR and a spread floor. It can't be denied what was working and what isn't working now.

This team needs everyone to touch the ball and for everyone to be active in every play, not standing around watching a player go ISO. That style of ball with less ball and player movement SUCKS. When the ball was moving we got WIDE OPEN shots.

The starters are still somewhat playing the same way. The team had the pick and roll, feltons penetration and kick out, and Melo's iso that would either be a one on one play and a kick out because of a double. The Knicks still do that.

Everybody who's a true knicks fan knows ball movement puts pressure on opposing teams defense, even if the shots don't always fall, and that's when you go to iso ball.

yellowboy90 @ 2/20/2013 10:59 PM
The thing I do not gt is that Melo was off the floor most of the 1st half yet still people blame it on Iso. Amar' trying to constantly attack 3 guys may be a problem. The player movement opposite the iso is the problem.

I'm not interested in halfassed execution! What i'm talking about is quick and sharp execution of sets. Read and react to the defense with good passing and moving without the ball. What the Knicks have been doing is a lame halfhearted attempt at going thru the motions on their sets. There's no energy on either side of the floor!

I was responding to your notion that the Knicks went away from what they were doing earlier in the season. They're still more or less playing the same way its just that other teams have adjusted to it.

As for the way they run their sets, you do have a point. I saw the Knicks run one play this game and they ran it so half assed it just resulted in a 3 point chuck. Other than that one play, the Knicks run nothing.

Agreed. Which is on the coach to point that out to his players in practice but the knicks don't practice offense. Notice the film sessions on the Mike Woodson Show.

He admitted himself he lets the players call their own plays on offense

Part of the skill of BB is to use misdirection and get the D to move where you want them to go, so you can open up the basket. The Knicks were doing that, but for a while now they have been playing lazy and forcing the ball with ISO plays for Melo, JR and STAT. That leads to poor shots for the role players on the team. No open 3's, just forced contested or rushed 3's. That's not how this team was playing. It's real simple. You PASS the ball and MOVE until you get the highest % shot. That's what it's all about. That's how they were playing. That's why the Knicks had the #1 offense in the league early on.

Papabear Says

When will everyone face the fact that this is not a very good shooting team. They live and die by the 3 ball. If we were such a great team how come no other teams want what we have.

gunsnewing @ 2/20/2013 11:55 PM
You hear them speak and they are in love with the 3ball.

MSG was showing clips from Knicks Bowl and all JR and Felton were talking about is how bowling is like shooting a 3

playa2 @ 2/21/2013 9:40 AM
When the ball is moving and the knicks players are running to different spots it takes energy.

We need a leader on the court who brings energy on both sides of the ball, at least that's what Shumpert brought last yr before his injury.

Vmart @ 2/21/2013 9:43 AM
I blame the three ball for lack of ball movement. Anyone can jack up a three when ever they want.

Why isn't Amare taking his man out of the paint he has no lift ,why won't he shoot from the elbow is his jumper no good now ?

I know you guys hate to hear it, but you have to face it after last night debacle.

This team goes in the direction Melo goes, when he played consistent on both ends of the court....the team won. He's the real coach behind the scenes and nobody is talking about it , but George Karl. Melo got no votes for the lack of ball movement, but George Karl got two....go figure.

They just fired Billy Hunter. It's not a players league. Owners still control everything.

Owners aren't on the sideline or in the game, it's still a players league. They still have the power to get coaches fired by not performing, just look down the street in Brooklyn.

You just completely negated the power of money. Owners can watch replays; coaches can talk to owners about everything, unlike players. I don't know what else to say.

There was one play that bothered me the most about last nights game. It was early 1st quarter. Melo jacks up a three and misses back tap and ball is back in Melo's hand after missing a three you would think he would go to the rack but what does he do, he jacks another three. No plays run, I mean you got a full shot clock. There is this crazy stat with the Knicks that when they hit 11+ threes they have a ridiculous record but when they don't they almost always lose. Talk about living a dying by the three.

I know exactly what play you are talking about. When it happened it set the ton in my mind. They went on to trail by 40

He's in control of minutes, not the way guys are playing on the court.
