Knicks · Teams have adjusted to our offense (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 2/22/2013 9:00 AM
Well only partially correct. The problem is Jason Kidd is shot and Iman Shumpert is months away from being ready--so when we go into starting a game--we know that Tyson doesnt post up so we can sag on him and then well live and die with ray Felton shooting his shots and double Melo when he gets near the lane.

In the 2nd unit--lest get up on Steve Novak--lets keep JR Smith going to his left and force him into 25 foot jumpers which he will take and lets crowd amare into jumpshooting really put a strong body on him push him out.

Not really an adjustment--its highly predictable--you could insert Novak and Amare into unit 1 for a change up--then youre second unit is JR Smith either 7-16 or 2-11

Team needs to win with defense first--so hopefully the Kenyon Martin pick up will help. It wont help the offense--but hopefully he can come in and give us some toughness in the low block and move Carmelo to 3

Let me also caveat something. Tyson is an excellent foul shooter. He hit a 12 foot jumper last game--also had a nice game for himself. Why cant Woodson get Tyson 3-4 12 footers a game to augment his and the team offense? Once you move him out--the lane opens up.

gunsnewing @ 2/22/2013 9:05 AM
Woodson said he wants to get Chandler more involved in the offense. Saying and doing are two different things.

The problems on offense will be solved by simply starting Amare and not allowing teams to quadruple team Melo

Who knows with more open shots Kidd, Shump & Felton might actually start having enough time to hit them

GustavBahler @ 2/22/2013 9:15 AM
Kidd might be worn down a bit but he isn't shot IMO. He doesn't look significantly slower than he did to start the season. Woodson should pare down his minutes so he can go all out come playoff time. If his teammates stepped up I don't believe this would be an issue.

I agree that Tyson not being able to post up puts more pressure on the guards. Felton can't get to the rim like he did to start the season, doesn't have that same burst of speed. Maybe he just needs to get in better shape after the layoff. I like how he's driving and kicking but he is kicking the ball out more than he is finishing. At some point teams are going to pick up on that and be ready for it.

Another big problem is the lack of screens. I remember Woodson in a locker room clip telling his team to set more screens but it seems to have gone in one ear and out the other. He really needs to get on their case about it and tell them that everyone needs to set screens because the only one who does it consistently is Chandler, and Tyson sets screens like he's afraid to get called for a foul.

If amare & novak plan to play more mins they better play zone. This workd great at boston

One problem that is overlooked is tye type of shots they take. 3pt misses lead to easy or 2ndary fast breaks with matchup problems since the def isnt set.

The offense needs more set plays designed to get lesser talent easy shots.

I think Kidd's lift is less. He seems to be short on his 3's now. Tired legs or maybe he is hiding an injury? The back?

gunsnewing @ 2/22/2013 9:51 AM
No reason for Kidd to be playing at all. He should be resting cos we will need him if anything happens to Felton/Prigs

I'm starting to come around to this way of thinking too

He didn't have much of a lift to start the season, its why he doesn't drive to the rim for the most part anymore. I agree he's worn down but not to the point where I would say that he's done. As I said in another post, I believe Felton going out forced Woodson to use Kidd more than he might have wanted to. He can still move pretty well but I believe that lack of production in the post (as Briggs pointed out) is putting more pressure on him.

I think its his back. He is struggling just to get his shot at the rim right now. Completely different shot. This team is kind of like an old fighter facing a young fighter. He can hang in round 1-3 but after that he starts to look slow and vulnerable.

Hopefully things fall into place. If not--I think we need a radical make over around Melo again--a move to a more diversified roster.

Also agreed and it's something I and others have mentioned before.

Think about this, we have two guys in Melo and JR who can create their own shot AND easily set up others (at least Melo). We also have Stat who can score on his own, though is best to be set up. Now, guys like Novak and Chandler can't really create their own shot. I don't get why we don't run at least 5 - 7 plays a game for a guy who is one of the best 3 point shooters in the NBA??? Chandler is set up often on the P&R and via ally oops.

The coach needs to do more. Would be nice to bring in D'Antoni to coach the offense once he is fired from LA.

do we even have an offense?

shoot 3's, go iso, yell at refs. recipe for success.

It's got to change or we will not get out of the 2nd Rd. We are deeper and probably more talented than most teams but we won't beat miami, indy and chicago without establishing an identity on both offense and defense like those teams have. Woodson can't just let the players play. Our star players don't have the basketball IQ for that. Namely Melo, Amare, JR & Felton
