WOW!
Frame This In Case Anyone Of Us Forgets
Danny Granger is willing to submerge his ego and relinquish the Indiana Pacers’ franchise-player role to Paul George.Granger recently returned after a nine-month hiatus caused by a knee tendon injury.
“I think the biggest deal about it is the assumptions since I was coming back that there’d be a competition between us, when it’s actually the opposite,” Granger said. “The way he can break defenses down, the way he can create, I can just stand, catch and shoot, drive – it makes my job easier. He’s coming in at such a young age – he’s 22 now – I’m going to be 30 in a month and a half.
“I have no problem – I’ve been in the league eight years – I have no problem passing the mantle to him, to leave the team to Roy (Hibbert) and George.
“My whole team I watched get drafted. I’ve watched all of them grow. So I have no problem passing the mantle. At all.”
Granger has helped foster a true team environment.
“Sometimes on NBA teams you’ve got guys competing with each other,” Granger said. “That’s the thing about our team. We compete against the other team. Whoever’s scoring, whoever’s playing, whoever’s passing the ball, whoever’s doing whatever, we’re rooting for that person. I think Frank Vogel, he did a good job of instilling that in all of us. Play for your teammates.
Why is this so unique???.Every player says this..MJ said it when he returned to the Bulls and dropped 55 on the Knicks..Did he believe it????.Whats the novelty???
Well Granger isn't the best player on the team anymore. Plus he is always injured.
I thought Amar'e has displayed a similarly admirable attitude since coming back.
did you give Amare the same props? I believe in patting our players on the back before giving a crap about whats happening elsewhere.

Exactly. Knicks fans are a tortured bunch. Myself included.

STAT was never such the player in question and it's more about the principle of letting players be who they are to the positive effect of the team and not trying to put them in a box and/or chase them away.....especially when they were largely responsible for carrying a team and/or salvaging a season. Also Leadership is not conditional as in....
"I'll do this as long as or I don't feel the need to do this anymore but go and do the exact thing you say you don't need to do anymore"

I suppose the immeadiate response is to equate the post to the knicks and:
1. Haters blast Amare and Melo for what ever bugs them that day.
2 Moobyites quote a crowd pleasing statement to demonstrate Melo's willingness to not be a dick.
Reality is Granger missed a long time and is coming back from injury and likley not the same player going forward. He is paid 13mm this year and 14 next so he'll be a free agent at 32. He made his money and is being resonable.
Ewing was not so "giving" at the end of his career.
Bam! I got a knick relevent remark in!!!!
Granger knows this is the right thing to say, and good for team, and make him more marketable if he plays beyond his contract.

Not being the best player doesn't mean you have to concede by default...For the most part Granger has been relatively healthy throughout his career besides this season.
Dwayne Wade has never been a true leader and matter of fact during his first championship it was Mourning and the other vets who led that team. Remember GP got all in Wade's grill during the Bulls series and every since he did that, that's when the team took off?
Joakim Noah is a leader on the Bulls team is he better than Rose or Deng?
Pierce and Garnett allowed Rondo to lead as far back to last year, there are fans who still think a healthy Pierce and Garnett are better than him.
What about when Dallas won their Chip it was said Chandler and Terry were more the leaders on that team than Dirk were they better players?

I often wondered what could have been IF Ewing had been willing to keep his ego in check and except a smaller role in the offensive, what could have been. Even after the wrist injury that destroyed his jumpshot, he refused to be less than the #1option.
Your post is spot on Nalod
We have seen Kidd be the defacter leader of the team this year. Baron Davis last year.
Its not always the best player.
Lets be real, these guys are in competition with each other for the money also. Its important when you negotiate a contract you have the stats to prove your worth. "Glue" can only be worith so much.
Granger is in a good place contractually and has been.
Lets not forget the business factor and how that can effect the team. We'd like to think our players are "team" first.
Maybe when JR smith watches "Jerry Maguire" a few times he'll get it.

And you left out any reference to Houston, Nuggyets... or the N*yets! Or the ABA!
Wonder if Granger, now that he's damaged, is on Dolan's radar? Maybe a way to take a poke Uncle Donnie? Or more likely a way for Donnie to further the Dolon incompetence legend? That's a nice salary dump, if he could manage to sell it.
With IT possibly in the mix, he could welcome the Knicks to the back pages again!
Nahhhh, 33 is way too young.

Indy has quality ownership, managment and it trickles down to the types of players they get..
dolan is a douchebag, he hires douchebags most of the time, and the players they acquire.. well.... go figure..

they CURRENTLY have good management. For the vast majority of the Larry Bird era, they were totally mismanaged and Bird got a free pass for all those years.
oh, and lets not talk about how Isiah filled that team with a bunch of thugs and malcontents that eventually hurt the team and embarrassed the ENTIRE league. Lets not act like the grass is so incredibly green over there.
And to call Dolan a douchebag really shows your bias TK. The guy may not be the best NBA owner in the world but, he has always come across as a decent guy. You know I have always respect you as a poster but, I think you may be a bit too emotionally invested.
dolan's a dumbass more than a douchebag...

nothing decent about a guy, who allowed all the BS to go on under his watch as owner.. from the anucha Brown sanders case to the, steph, get in the van controversy... Don't talk about bias.. the guy is a total douche.. if you think he is a decent guy, I hate to see your idea of a douchebag then...

completely opposite
