It would help more that he would be cutting back drastically on some of the bad shots he feels he had to take when his team isn't shooting well.

assists are great but ball movement is more important in the long run. most of melo's assists are basically back door passes to a cutting stoudemire. you don't which see any pick and rolls. he often is forcing passes in traffic which is an iffy proposition. it seems to be working today and that bodes well come playoff time if we face the heat.
overall the offense can't establish a rhythm unless melo contributes to it directly.
i also applaud the way he is drawing more fouls lately. he needs to bring that every game.

He made many passes for many PERIMETER bricks - as usual
Watch the damn game - geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
These guys should finish games, Kidd has his moments but he's wasn't a factor down the stretch on defense or offense.

no need to get so upset. there could have been a lot more offensive cohesion.
that's how you beat the heat-- you execute and you take care of the ball. defending would be also be nice. i'm not sure but maybe woodson is making switches on defense as a kind of loosely formed zone. it does not seem to be working.
we saw several possessions as soon as melo sat down and kidd came in when the whole look of the offense looked great and the knicks built a lead. melo comes back and he participates in the ball movement for a couple of possessions but then the offense reverts back to it's familiar look. did he drive and convert? yes. did he get to the foul line? sure did. but was he integral to establishing an offensive rhythm for his team, as jeff van gundy said he needed to do in order for the knicks to win and even contend? no. 3 assists with a usage rate to assist rate ratio that will sure to be over 2.5:1. this is not backing up what you say but will support what i say.
in fact the rest of the team shot pretty well. leaving out smith and melo they shot 48% on 37 shots
smith of course went 5-18 and 3-14 from 3. no trips to the line = coward. and then the telegraphed pass at the end sealed our fate.

If that lineup is working they should finish games. In 41 minutes played together that lineup is only +3, scores 1.11 ppp, and gives up 1.06 ppp.

I'm laughing at the haters like ha ha ha. Predictable as usual.
This loss is on JR Smith, perhaps the worst fundamental game I have watched in ages. Multiple positions just trying to go one on one leading to terrible shots. Combined with four one handed passes to the middle of the key spoon feeding LeBron for fast break points. Add the rushed jumper and then falling down with a minute remaining and he gift wrapped it.
Melo played extremely well, as did Kidd. The defensive schemes Kidd guarding LeBron, Amare on Allen were a little puzzling. It would be nice if woodsen ever drew up play. We come out of timeouts so disorganized its sad.
But, dissapointing day for such a solid all around effort.

At least each one of the players had the ability to drive to the basket or penetrate and dish after faking a shot, outside of Tyson who could have received ally oops then.

Sorry - was a little hot after the game. And, it was interesting how you guys all came out of the closet as soon as the game was over.
Did you see how many passes that Melo passed to players that created open shots? As usual, those shots were missed and you don't see those passes in the stat sheet.
Melo is NOT a complete player and stop trying to prove that he is not. We know he is not. But, very few are.
BTW, our starters were 17-39
Melo - 9-19
Felton - 3-8 (2 late layups made this look a bit better after the game was basically out of reach)
Tyson - 4-7
Shump - 1-6
White - 0-1
Who is hitting an outside shot in that lineup? NOBODY
Nice job building this team grunwald
Last year we go into the season with TD as our starter.
This year, this?
Melo was passing the ball alot and well until no one could hit a shot. Then he started going solo. Blame him? Sure ... what the hell

Even Melo should be getting more possessions closer to the basket. Everything doesn't have to be a 3pt shot.
Stat does well in the PnR and some moves when he is within 3 feet from the hoop. Anything outside of that, he looks awful, gets his shot blocked, turns the ball over ...
We should not be giving him the ball if he is not 3 feet from the hoop.

Isn't the more accurate observation to point B.... more players would average higher assists if more players hit their shots on this team?
Was this a cute way to try and give unaccomplished credit to Melo?
You guys act all the bricks are taking place only when Melo passes the rock. We took 74fga and made 32fg 43% approximately league average.
For the record....
Novak 0-3 I think TKF once told us 4 score and 7yrs ago this guy..."not that good" although the other 2gms prior to when the Heat didn't take us seriously he was a combined 13-23
Shumpert shot 1-4 you know the guy that can't under no circumstance be traded unless he brings back the trinity Micheal Jordan/Larry Bird/Magic Johnson
Felton shot 3-8 you know the guy that's clearly better than Lin and his return from hand injury was going to take us to another level
Smith shot 5-18 you know the guy who's matured immensely
So I guess if you combine all their misses, all of them must have been a result of Melo dishes on a platter.... because everyone else shot 50% or better
Funny thing some fans want Melo to get glory for regular assists and if not for regular assists then ultimate glory for hockey assists. Give an inch they take a mile

Dude I don't give a crap what others say about STAT, what I know for a FACT is that he's top 20 all time efficient scorer. The more you give him the ball the guy produces at a high level. As long as he's healthy he's proven to be effective. He may not be able to give us long minutes but he's got the ability to help this team score more efficiently. STAT is playing at an efficiency level that is higher than the last 2 years.

STAT is having an Eddy Curry 2006-2007 season like productivity it's an illusion, a mirage of significant impact.

The issue is that the Knicks don't have anyone who can run the pick and roll effectively with one of the great finishers of the game.
Felton? no way.
Smith? Uh uh.
Melo? No dice.
His talent is being squandered.

Yes. They have no one. And Melo is not a PG and never was as far as I can remember.
“My max is 30 minutes. I haven’t quite got there yet. We’ll see how that goes,” Stoudemire said. “It all depends on how the coaching staff views the game. I’m just ready whenever they call me.”
Anthony didn’t want to get in the middle of any possible controversy.
“I don’t control that. I leave that up to the coach. When Amar’e is out there, he’s giving us productive minutes,” Anthony said. “As far as the minutes go, you have to ask Coach Woodson.”
Stoudemire insisted that “physically I feel as good as I’ve felt in a long time.”
