Some could call it unfair for me to be satisfied with only other-worldly shooting efficiency from Novak, but it’s justifiable to me.

Why?

Because shooting the ball from downtown is literally all Steve Novak can do to benefit the Knicks on the court. His off-ball movement isn’t up to par with an average NBA player, making it even harder for him to get the looks he wants from three, especially when he refuses to attempt one when a defender is in front of him, despite his 6’10″ frame.

Against teams over .500, Novak fires approximately 3.4 threes per game, which is below this season’s average for him at 4.3, as well as last year’s 5.2. His presence does space the floor for attacker such as Felton, Anthony, Stoudemire and J.R. Smith though, right? Per nbawowy.com, The eFG% of Felton and Stoudemire both go up when Novak’s on the court, but Anthony’s and Smith’s decreases. So both yes and no then.

- David Vertsberger

The risk in starting Novak is his height does not compensate for his substandard on-ball defense.

The only way to compensate might be to run him with Camby and Chandler up front.

While Carmelo is healing, Novak has an opportunity to prove he can contribute against elite teams. With the sequence of back to backs in March, we can use all the help we can get.

Get Novak the damn ball.

Novak is gone this summer. So Im not worried.

The concern is that Steve Novak could be a valuable player with defenders to clean up his blown assignments. Playing alongside Chandler and Martin (or Camby and Sheed) could be his fantasy island.

It's also interesting that no one EVER mentions Novak as having a low basketball IQ. He is 6'10 but manages to negate his height advantage with poor recognition. He can only shoot jumpers and never rebounds. Dare he be called soft? Never.

I just wish he could add one more component to his game.

Just one.

I agree, like going for a layup once in a while to keep the defense honest, drawing a foul. Defenses are playing him so close they won't expect it. If he can't handle that, instead of doing his usual pump fake and pass, Novak should move in a little closer for a better look. Its like a 2pt shot isn't good enough for him.

I still believe there should be more of an effort to incorporate him into the offense but at the same time Novak has to do a better job of finding ways to score. Isn't all on his teammates and coach.

Novak stinks guys. He's the luckiest person in the world for the deal he got.

How do you figure? There's not going to be much of a market for a 3-point specialist making $4M/year.

Novak has no speed/athleticism/handle, very inferior vs NBA competition like JV vs NBA players
He can shoot the ball but he is just not very skilled or physically talented, a reason why I would preferred to spend that money to keep Lin and sign a veteran minimum player to fill Novak's role

Lin's ability to penetrate opens things up for the team, he constantly attack's the opponent's DEF *physically and mentally*, create's good shot opportunities for the team *even on his misses*, and his style allow's his team to play OFF the ball/getting them involved in the play

Maybe an analytics guy like Morey or Hollinger would take him. Or someone who doesn't pay attention to how bad of a player he is aside from sometimes hitting 3's in bunches.

role players or "specialists" like Novak only thrive under exceptional point guards. He's not as effective this yr and he's going to disappear in the playoffs again.

Another part of the problem is that we're playing more half court ball now and Novak got a lot of points in transition last season. We don't run n gun like we used to and it gives defenses the time to shut Novak down. Novak has to make the necessary adjustments.

It's not just his blown assignments (read: the AnswerMan could drive by Novak in a jazzy), he cannot defend anyone, anywhere, anymore. Watch. Steve. Rotate. To. The. Corner. See. The. Shooter. Shoot. As. If. Uncontested.

You're 6-10 son. move those feet faster and get a hand up.

He shouldn't do another discount double check until he gets a block or a deflection.

gunsnewing - (Novak) took it to the hole for the first time i was shocked and tyson and the benched erupted

"Cope can score the basketball. On our bench, I need guys that can score. I'm not going to hesitate to throw Cope in because I know he can do that. He does it very well. I've just got to get him committed on the other end. I wouldn't be doing my job if I just let him go one way. Tonight, I thought he proved a little bit that he deserves to be on the floor." - Mike Woodson

Suddenly, significant roles have become available

Of course Yes
why are you touting Mr Novak and his shot attempts. All in all Steve has his moments but he's had an horrid year
not solely caused by shot attempts, Steve has something to do with it. How bout' a play call Or Steve setting a pick ? to get
ball back?

Novak doesnt do enough on the floor often this season to JUSTIFY many /more minutes on the floor

I Like Steve but in summary some of the poor pct.'s shown OR lack attempts is Steve's fault and perhaps coaching.
You gotta work hard to have opportunities. I don't see it with consistency from Erractic Novak and
he seem like one of them shooters if you stick up in his face he can be discouraged, down in dumps then DOWN & OUT.

The more skilled Allan Houston used to be like that & had slump in his shoulder when his opposition gave Allan trouble though
a bit different cause Allan was a starter. However when Allan became Knick later in his yrs & NY concept of in yo' face &
brash confidence swagger when Allan turned on his aggressiveness ONLY then did he become the killa' scorer, shooter and Threat
in his best days, Houston #20 never back down again NOR gets discourage with slump shoulders as we see with Steve Novaks
when a > .500 team OR elite nba foes get up Steve's jockstrap unfortunately Steve SHRINKs...like INCREDIBLE Shrinking man!

*lol ..we all know that

Unless Steve sheds the image & persona whole good NBA teams got his number & become a tougher offensive scorer & shooter with
his skills he will continute to SHRINK ..instead of be the THREAT NY Knickerbockers desperately needs, thus his Shot FG's tries
and opportunities will increase cause he will get ball in spots he can succeed. Don't hurt to add few moves to his arsenal either.
