was just listening to the radio and heard this. apparently when Melo gets his knee drained, he's going to have to sit out for 7-10 days for whatever medical reason.
and the plan is for him to play tonight and sit for the rest of the road trip. why play tonight? apparently it's because Melo wants to play because he has a history in denver etc etc.
so i'm wondering if he has to sit for 7-10 days after getting his knee drained, why the heck didn't they do this sooner?? and why the heck is Melo playing tonight?
as an organization, wouldn't you sit his ass and get this done ASAP to finish strong for the rest of the season?
but it's obvious that they're coddling melo. and melo isn't making the wisest choice by playing tonight.
My question is, if the knee has fluid in it - is there any other way besides draining it to fix it?
Does rest alone generally correct the issue or do they always need to be drained?
No it needs to be drained shouldve been done a week ago instead of resting but Melo is afraid of needles he said. Yet hes tattood from neck to toe
Why are you asking us?
Why do it sooner? Lets assume there are medical protocals and you try different things before you do any procedure that involved needles or scopes.
These guys sacrifice their bodies for big money and play with injury all the time. Did we know he has been in pain since Christmas?
Do they have to answer to fans or consult with them before they make a decision?

The body naturally adds and drains fluid on its own, but sometimes too much fluid can build up and it needs to be drained to regain full range of motion. So I'm guessing that they're hoping it drains on its own. It's probably not that much fluid if he's able to play 35 minutes.
I ask the same question but basically he was trying to let it drain on it own with rest because the fluid is built up to try to immobilize the knee to keep it from moving(so I herd). Basically I guess he is trying to avoid surgery in the off-season like Wade and Bryant had after they drained their knees in the playoffs. Fortunately for Melo he gets the opportunity to rest unlike the other too.
So the knee is fragile from the knee injury after dwight leveled him. Now fluid has built up. The bodies why of protecting your fragile knee and trying to tell you to stay off it. Yet Melo is playing tonight during "im coming home v2.0"

rhetorical question obviously.
whether or not they're mulling over the procedure of getting his knee drained. resting isn't going to make it worse RIGHT?
they knew he had to get his knee drained at least prior to the warriors game. so they should've done it then.
you pick and choose your battles but melo wanting to play tonight isn't the wisest decision IMO.
Makes no sense. If Melo is hurt enough to sit out the rest of the road trip, then chances are he won't have a very good game. Then again he might have a good game but at what cost?
Let's be honest, since he's gotten here, it's all been about Melo's choices. For better or worse.

Hopefully he's milking the injury a bit and explodes for a great game tonight. The injury has been bothering him for a while and he still managed to have some good games in the couple of weeks leading up to the Cleveland game.
This is wishful thinking, but maybe that's how it plays out.
Your talking about medical staff that sat rasheed for 2 months, then said, you know what, lets have surgery now so you can be out another 2 months
A medical staff that reports a player is day to day and a wk later he's out indefinitely
Imo he is going to have his knee drained then we got to hope his fragile fluidless knee holds uo til after the season so he can have the same surgery as wade and kobe. Hopefully melo doesnt go down game 1 with a torn acl and mcl

Hope you're right. With the limited window this squad has, as its built right now, I don't want to see Melo or anyone else do anything to hurt their chances come playoff time.
with the way the season has been headed of late, he probably will get hurt and be out the rest of the year.
I keep thinking how excited everyone is with our current standing, and how we're going to make the play offs.
And then I think how Dolan gave Isiah an extension when he had us in 8th place, and we folded the rest of the way.
I don't think its impossible to imagine a scenario where we miss the play offs altogether this year.
Why was Melo playing in the last game after we were down big and showed no hope of getting back in it? Its not rust affecting Melo- its an injury.

Step away form the panic button. Miss the playoffs this year? When was the last time you looked at the standings?

The fluid is a reaction to something, not really the main problem. It might create more pressure and take away from his motion, but I bet there is a bigger problem. (Not necessarily a serious one. I mean these guys play too much as it is and with him playing the 4 he is getting physically taxed and he's been in the league a long time.)
Rest can help, but when you have that pressure in the knee it is slowing down the healing process. Sort of a catch 22 and in this case we don't even know what the problem is

earthman - well said. The problem with the NBA marathon and injuries is that once an injury happens, there is no time for recovery.
You either decide to play, suffer further damage and the criticism for being less than 100 per cent effective.
Or you shut it down, eliminate yourself from a fragile rotation (thereby increasing the minutes and productivity others must compensate for) and try and avoid being labelled as "soft"

Can you elaborate on this? Cause I remember last season there being a lot of talk about Amare's, Lin's, and Dolan's choices also.

It's been all about how to make Melo comfortable. It's his choice of coach, his choice of teammates. We've surrounded him with basically a coach and PG that is focused on getting Melo the ball all the time, his old Nuggets teammates, and old vets that have the credentials for him to respect. He's talking about chemistry and how the Knicks shouldn't be talking about trades, but I don't see a legit contending team right now, do you?
I just think the Knicks aren't going to challenge Melo's wants, although in this case, it looks like he should've just had it drained already. Or, if he is really against needles, sit out, rest, and get treatment because he's not helping out there. Either way, if it's true he's going to get it drained after this game, it does seems like his objective is to make a return to Denver and then deal with the knee more seriously.
