Knicks · Putting the Dolan reign in perspective, a reason for optimism (page 1)

Guy's been running the show for only 10 years,

if you really think about it, he's only made two mistakes so far, those are: sticking with Isiah for the larger part of the 2000s and then throwing the Walsh rebuild to the dust bins of history for Melo,

that's really 2 giant mistakes, it's not like he's been at it for 30 years,

if we look at the next 10 or 20 years, we can hold out hope that Dolan will learn from these experiences and maybe trust the basketball minds more in the future,

What we should be collectively looking forward to is an expedited resolution to the Melo Mistake,

then Jimmy will have opportunity to right the ship,

Third time is a charm right??

Now if our NEXT big shake and bake follows in the footsteps of the first two, we will have a grave situation,

most new yankee fans only have good memories of "the george". those of us who recall the 80s and early 90 yankees considered him among the worst owners in sports (i know i did). winning sure turned around his fortunes. knicks go out and win, folks will let go a bit.

The main point here is that Dolan is relatively new to running a pro basketball franchise,

in Owner Years, he's basically a rookie,

the amazing POWER at his disposal just serves to magnify his blunders, so it is not unreasonable to hold out hope that he will correct himself in the next decade

Yea, it's something like that,

I'm not much for baseball, but would you say that George adapted his ownership style as the years passed?

It's been more than 10 years. Cablevision has owned at least 50% of the team since 1994 and 100% since 1997.

I don't think Dolan really took full control until something like 2000 or 2001

he got banned by mlb. this prevented him from meddling and the yankees didnt end up trading jeter/williams/rivera/posada/etc as they usually did when george was around. trade young for old...

i was so hoping stern would ban dolan for the isaih lawsuit mess so that the knicks could get a similar run. see what a FO left alone could do.

He was still part of the decision making process. And according to wikipedia he was running things by 1999.

So we should really be hoping for S to HTF as soon as possible,

which means the best thing to do would be root against the Knicks as hard as possible from here on,

I was hoping that she would win enough money in the lawsuit that it would've made financial sense for Dolan to sell the team.

I just went over the his wiki,

what I take from it is that he didn't really consolidate his power until the Isiah hiring, this was sort of the watershed moment,

either way, how would you say if we called it something between 10 and 13 years?

if MELO does not opt out and pull a Joe Johnson/Allan Houston on us, we will have a lot of cap room to spend
But with this CBA, it is hard to OVERPAY for talents and BIG NAMES like we are so use to doing in the past
So we don't have to go through a rebuilding mold like most teams with the 2015 FA class but we do have to sign the right combinations of talents that compliment each other
Fortunately, there are enough FA's to put together all in one summer
Till then, sign CAP FRIENDLY FA's and no overpaying for talents that are past 2015
Hopefully we can somehow attract 3-4 quality FA's that take a slight pay cut to play here in NY together

How many players actually can accept being scrutinized under a microscrope with the media/analyst always all over NY?
How many like coming to NY because they know they will have the possiblity of getting over payed and getting endorsements?

How many players in the league would prefer smaller market teams that have a great foundation like the Spurs, even though some players like Parker/Ginobili could have earned more $ elsewhere, I think they prefer the CONTENDING TEAM, no NONSENSE, TEAM ORIENTATED, and DRAMA FREE lifeystle on and off the court
Not to mention the lifestyle in NY is rather expensive compared to many places in the US, the 2-3 bedroom condo is worth more than many HUGE HOUSES
What if you are Novak *prior to his new deal*, James White/Brewer, and *struggling in terms of salary*

It comes with playing in the bright lights/Mecca, with the possibility of building a bigger fan base, and getting more endorsement deals
When things go well, it feels GREAT here in NY, and will it goes bad, well it can stink real fast and smell real bad
With the media/analyst/writers, it makes it tough for any athlete playing in NY because they will create/stir up drama
The mental affects the physical as the physical effects the mental
Rinse, wash, repeat....

Agfree. There are also states with better tax breaks and better climates.

Dolan ran Checketts out, Allowed Ewing to run the franchise, hired Layden, fired Layden, Hired Isiah, Extended isiah, Made Isiah coach, ran walsh out, depleted roster assets to get Melo (draft picks still yet to materialize) and pandered to Nyet invasion.

Nalod might be not right in the head a lot, but he got his Dolan timeline pretty good.

I would love to be wrong!

I thought Checketts left for bigger and better things...He left to run the Olympics?? and Checketts was the one who put Layden in place..Layden was Checketts' underling...Checketts was in charge of everything Garden..He traded Patrick...

How does Donnie continue to get a pass???????

I dont think he has gotten a pass. The Amare contract is his doing so he deserves blame. However i think Donnie is a very good GM and wish dolan would have just left him alone

Can we please not talk about 2015? We talked about 2010 FA class ad nauseum since 2007 which didn't get us nearly what we drooled over. Let's not make it 8 years of circle jerking. Let's live in the moment and leave the long term planning to people that have a clue (or not).

He's never gotten a pass from me. A Gentleman and a Scholar in some ways, very decent person who you can respect aside from media interaction, but overrated GM and didn't do a good job here at all.

Well said.

James Dolan is the worst owner in sports.
