Knicks · Knicks Path to 50 Wins... (page 1)

Solace @ 3/24/2013 12:05 PM
This has been a rollercoaster ride this season, but at the end of the day, before the season started, I believed 50 wins would've been the regular season mark for a successful season combined with a strong showing in a second round exit against an elite team (Miami, Chicago with Rose).

Here's our remaining schedule:
3/26 - @ Boston
3/27 - vs. Memphis
3/29 - vs. Charlotte
3/31 - vs. Boston
4/2 - @ Miami
4/3 - @ Atlanta
4/5 - vs. Milwaukee
4/7 - @ Oklahoma City
4/9 - vs. Washington
4/11 - @ Chicago
4/12 - @ Cleveland
4/14 - vs. Indiana
4/15 - @ Charlotte
4/17 - vs. Atlanta

So, what's our path to get there? Not the easiest schedule for sure.

Here's my scenario:
- Beat Charlotte, Washington, Cleveland, Charlotte - All the teams below .500. That's 4 wins of the 8 we need.
- Beat Milwaukee, split with Atlanta, split with Boston, beat Indiana at home. That's the other 4 wins.

That gets us 50 wins and we beat Indiana, so we might slip ahead of them for the #2. Thoughts?

We know we have two built in losses with games against Miami and OKC. How confident are you that we reach 50 wins? Is 52 possible? I would've loved 54 wins; but the team isn't playing like the team that started the season, so I won't reach that high.

Can't concede the Miami game. They we're beaten twice before, and it can Ben done again. With K-Mart at the 4 and Chandler playing, we are a matchup Hell for them. It will also take the smirk from there faces and put us on firmer ground if we face them in the ECF.

Rasheed was the difference maker, novak and kidd hitting there 3's is the difference maker.
Not turning the ball over is also extremely important right next to hitting your FT's.

The 3 ball and limiting your turnovers IMO is the only way to be the HEAT

Yeah. I was just talking about being realistic. Of course we'd love to beat the Heat and OKC. But, even splitting seems unlikely, especially with both on the road and Miami becoming one of those for the ages teams. Our playoff hope is to avoid that team; we aren't beating Miami. Probably nobody is.

I dissagree, the heat have been down in 80% of there wins , almost all by double digits.

We had a 16 point half time lead, and started taking BS shots, not defending hard and started the ISO thing (almost all of there opponents have done this during the streak). The 2nd 20 point blow out we gave the heat was the BLUE PRINT. It was exactly how dallas beat them.

I'm glad the heat are coming back from these deficits, it leaves a sense of over confidence. If you play hard against them and smart for 48 mins, they can be handled..When your up double digits on them, play like your down double digits..

Bonn1997 @ 3/24/2013 5:41 PM
"Been down in 80% of their wins"? It's the final score that counts! "Been down" is pretty vague anyway. That could just mean they trailed 2-0 at the start of the game.

That puts us at 4-10,

most likely scenario.

Miami is on a tear right now btw

Most like scenario..my ass

Your basically saying we can't beat anyone good on the road, last time i check we had a winning road record, which is more then i could say for the nets, hawks, boston and pacers.

I know this 4 game win streak isn't much and it came against some softies, the emergence of kmart and melo starting to look like nov/dec plus a little more priggs...faith has been retored somewhat

markvmc @ 3/24/2013 7:00 PM
We'll beat Atlanta at least once, and we'll beat Cleveland. Might pick up a win or two against one of the better teams, so 4-10 doesn't strike me as the most likely scenario. I'd go with 6-8, maybe even 7-7. I'd be surprised if we did better than that though.
dk7th @ 3/24/2013 7:15 PM
The Knicks have actually shown signs of life the last couple of games, albeit against a lottery team. JR is getting to the line which is great but he still is too inefficient. Melo is the same: scores inefficiently but hey a win is a win I guess.

But the real difference is Martin has brought defensive intensity and it has proven contagious. If the Knicks can defend like they can-- and should-- then they may make some noise. Chicago and Boston may be on fumes by playoff time, brightening the Knicks chances of making the 2nd round. Atlanta has not made an impression but I am a fan of Horford.

I agree 6-8 or 7-7 is likeliest.

yellowboy90 @ 3/24/2013 7:36 PM
Yes a 59.4 TS over the 4 wins screams inefficient.

You talking about scoring inefficiency or offensive inefficiency? Melo has had 3 assists and 12 turnovers over that stretch. DK didn't limit his comment to scoring.

sure guy and I was talking about JR but Melo's 124.2 offrtg really hurts. However those TOs need to really come down.

I want to get happy too, but I can't, because I am applying the brake pads to the tides and the moons:

we're 5-5 over the last 10, which is a continuation of our .500 ball we have played since the hot balls start, give or take,

I don't think we're gonna bang anything over .500 over the final stretch, and given the difficulty of our schedule (measured by opponents and the fact that we are on the road), I think a record significantly under .500 is the most realistic scenario:

30% winning percentage is right around this ball park

My bad. I thought you were talking about Melo.

So are the Hawks and Brooklyn if they win tonight so really there wouldn't be anything too significant about this accomplishment, other than it's better than we've been in the past regular season wise.

Its better that the Knicks have been for at least 12 years. !2 freakin years. It is significant,
markvmc @ 3/24/2013 9:34 PM
Significant if we win a playoff series. More or less irrelevant otherwise.

They need to win a playoff series but it is still significant. During the Isiah and Dantoni years I got to the point where I would stop watching, skip games or only watch the fourth quarter. Winning is much more interesting and having a chance is significant.

Bingo!!!!!!

We can't call ourselves dissing other teams for regular season wins and nothing to show for it, then say if we win 50gms then it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Can't have it both ways. Plus other teams are doing or are on pace to do the same in the East, so it's only relevant when it truly becomes relevant.

Nalod @ 3/25/2013 8:13 AM
When 50 wins can get you a 2 or three seed is pretty telling of the conference.

Knicks improving the last two seasons.

We have not sniffed 50 wins in a long time!

50 wins and first place? Not bad!
