3 assists TOTAL between Melo and JR--that wont work.

69 points, 22 free throws, no need to pass when you're scoring and in attack mode.

That will catch up with you. I would simply start hedging doubles at each guy and forcing their hands. The pass is the ultiimate equalizer.

There isn't that many doubles in the world, if both players commit to attacking the rim, they'll live at the free throw line, courtesy of your doubles.

When things got a little close last night Melo and Felton seemed to be struggling to do anything on offense. It was a relief when JR got the ball. Some of this has to do with who they are playing with.

When the competition increases and is better, more assist will come from those two because teams will be more concentrated on them. No brainer

when both melo and jr are on their game its fine but when they struggle they have to look to get some other involved. Thats why Lebron is so good he draws defenders to him and it opens it up for other guys to score

Thats why Wade and Lebron are so good--they are willing passers so is Kobe Harden Durant etc..

Kobe and Harden are 'willing" passers?

They are the top 2 SGs in assists/game.

i wouldn't bet on it. you expect them to just turn on the "find the open man" switch but if it isn't an already-established habit or an integral part of their games it's going to be tough to adapt.

it's still a team game and everybody has to be kept involved offensively in order to be prepared to execute. a lot of you guys put the onus on guys who take fewer shots to be prepared to make those shots rather than putting the onus on the guys who take more than their share of shots to keep everyone involved. customary excuses are:

"the role players didn't step up"
"the star put the team on his back but he didn't get enough help."

i still have visions of lebron forcing melo way out of position and making it difficult to even receive an entry pass. and i don't see melo manning up and taking the assignment of guarding lebron james.

Your vision must be from the one loss not the two victories. As someone who has said an nba team should hire you for their front office you are missing something very obvious. Melo and LBJ don't cover each other so they don't get into foul trouble. If it is the end of the game/fourth quarter I think you see those two check each other. LBJ has always had a hard time with Melo. We have different visions.

Papabear Says

They must be talking about another Kobe and Harden. And who do you want or trust or recommend to shoot the ball on the Knicks?

I dont recall Melo getting shut down at all, game 1 might have been terrible, but there was alot more going on with that than Melo.

But for the folks who seem to not recall how Melo actually did.

Game 2 12-26 30 points 46% shooting

Game 4 15-29 41 points 51% shooting

Game 5 15-31 35 points 48% shooting

Even Lebron shot below 45 in 4 out of 5 games.

Lebron didn't affect melo's game at all.

Great front office people never let facts get in the way of judgement. That's a proven requirement for those in the know. And it comes in especially handy when showing your total objectivity in the face of your personal hate toward certain players.

assists per game is a little misleading. Ginobli and Iguadala are the top 2 if you go by assist ratio (out of the guys who play significant minutes). This thread is a little ridiculous tho. It's one game. Both J.R. and Melo average close to 3 assists each for the year.

They were on JR last night--theyve caught up to that quickly. He did adjust with some passing but was also caught in between for TO's and forced into tougher shots than what he was getting. He's a great mid range jumpshooter when he is square---he will just need to find the balance. You can see at times what I mean about Melo not using the pass--especially last night--hes a great player but he could be better if he used the pass as a weapon.
