He's nice cost-effective player and I think he can stay as an 8th or 9th man in a solid rotation. He should only get better as well. His body of work has earned a pay increase and some security/loyalty longer term.
Briggs I have a feeling that you always go over when watching The Price is Right. That seems a little too long and high unless the last two years is partially guaranteed. Then its right on the money.

I think there will be other smart teams that could easily become involved in negotiating with Chris Copeland in that price range. Thats a fair and loyal price.

Maybe but if its partially guaranteed then I am all for it. I think people maybe scared given his age and lack of defense. He also, is a poor dribbler. It is by no means outrageous but just to high for me. The non-guaranteed money would also help his trade value if he continues his good play next year.
I actually think he's well worth the money. How many bench players are as skilled as he is at this point? There are a TON of players making more that don't actually produce at the level he's showing so far. I don't even think we've seen the best of this kid yet in terms of his understanding of what it takes to be an NBA Pro. He's getting better little by little. To say he's not worth just $2.5 mil a year is not right.
Cope is 6th on the team in True Shooting % and 7th in eFG%. He's getting better defensively and on the boards. He's a solid role player for this team. Cope can spread the floor, PnR and post up. For a scrap heap PF that's not a bad thing to have.
a team like the Spur's could utilize him, cover his defensive inefficiencies, and have the salary cap to sign him to such a deal
not many teams have the luxury to sign a stretch 4 like a Ryan Anderson and Copeland is a decent bench/poor man's version
Kleiza is a player that is player with some of his skills without the handle
He might not be able to defend the SF/C but those are 2 positions that he can play in limited minutes while PF
But offensively, he has a decent handle/post up game/decent IQ to go with his shooting touch
He would be most suitable with Duncan covering him, along with Parker's penetration, and the Spur's ball movement/sharing the ball
People can talk about his defense but the guy can score 20 points a night, that kind of productivity is not a dime a dozen.
Here we go again over valuing our players again.

+1
Let Cope do this over the course of a whole season against starters, not scrubs and then let's talk money. A few toss up games here and there does not equal big contract. Cope blew like 5 EASY plays in the fourth quarter with prigs feeding him and Cope being FEATURED on offense. He will not be featured on offense often except in blowouts. Does scoring points in blowouts equal nice contracts?
Yes, Cope is a nice 9th player off the bench (since our other players are injured now, he is getting run) but when Chandler gets back, Cope will go back to being a bench warmer. In the games Cope started, he did not produce.
no i agree with briggs ...thats about right for cope. it just wont happen with the knix
His opponent has a 23.0 PER. That's probably the worst defense in the entire league out of all the players who have played significant minutes.
Copeland is a unique player in that he has the power to play inside yet the finesse and skills to play outside as well--- a true mobile 4. His rebounding skills have improved during the year and he fits well--especially since this team has been hurt so badly by big man injury. He's kind of stuck in between on defense but that is not a big concern as long as he plays within a defensive team system. When you say contract below 3mm in NBA--that contract is almost always fluid. We overpaid Steve Novak. 2.5mm avg is a fair contract for a player very capable of scoring 20 points off the bench with a diversified skill set. Your paying some for advanced potential and he is 28 but I see him improving and he does not have many miles on his body--he looks very fresh and I see him in a sustained core 9 next year.
he's def not a kid...just turned 29 years old

I wasnt kidding when I said Novak is a better defender than Cope. But with that said I would like to reason him for cheap. He replaces Melo off the bench without much dropoff in scoring. Much more useful player than Novak at $4MIL PER
If we weren't going through injury hell right now, would anyone even be typing about Cope, except the occasional "Why Doesn't Woody Play Cope" thread?
Fool's gold. I'm happy he's shiny and all, but let's not go crazy.

Nice line. I like it.
Look at it this way
If Novak can get 3yrs $12mil. Except his contract is 4yrs $16mil
Then Cope can get 3yrs @ $ 8-9mil

I would rather see him running the PNR for this team than to have him rolling down the lane against us. He's been treated so cavalierly, coming of the bench, that I wonder if he wouldn't bolt if given the opportunity. Do we have any rights to him?

If we run into salary cap issues and Copeland JR Smith and Martin leave(and Prigioni bails Kidd retires)--Amare doesnt play--who you filling the roster with?
Copeland at that number is pretty reasonable.
