Also, in response to a comment made by Bonn on the first page of this thread, there is not a three season body of work in relation to the trade / Melo. Melo has played two partial seasons with the Knicks. This will be his first full season as a Knick.
You can the seasons however you want to. My evaluation of Carmelo is based on his ten year career. When evaluating the trade, I'd just count each regular season since the trade game equally. The games before this year DO count even if they weren't 82 game seasons. This season will have a little more weight than last because it has more games though.

Do you think the Knicks have shown resiliency in adversity? The team lost 4 games in a row and didn't have a big other than KMart and a guy with a broken foot started them on an 11 game winning streak. They still don't have a healthy big and have continued winning. During the streak only 5 teams have scored over 90 pts and only two over 100.
yes they have shown resilience but in your answer you managed to avoid the issue of identity and system. it's not that you win it's how you win. so i still have my doubts because i still can't discern an identity with this team.
still, i have to hand it to felton-- he has rounded into a serviceable point guard lately, playing within his limitations. of course the biggest change is he is shooting much less-- which is what i "asked" of him this entire season. and while we're at it smith is also doing what i "asked" of him, which is reverse the 3-point shooting and free throws. these two players have been playing much better and lets hope they keep it up.
today they are going to be sorely tested because nobody can stay in front of westbrick and then who can we expect to guard durant without getting into foul trouble?
i'd love a win today but i'll take a close game against that team on the road.

Both teams won the trade. Denver stayed on par with what it was doing and the knicks elevated.

You're downplaying Denver there. They weren't a top 4 team pre-trade.
Nope we gave up too much. We should have rolled the dice on Melo signing in the summer so that we could retain the assets needed to add more talent. A Melo led team is not good enough to beat teams led by Durant, LeBron or CP3. I mean this team has overachieved and we got lucky with the cba amnesty clause that got us Tyson but they’re still not getting out of the east for the foreseeable future.
That being said I’m enjoying the ride. I’m rooting for them to make the ecf and give Miami their best shot. Anything can happen but I wouldn’t put money on it.
Lets just say we don't have to worry about having scary role players trying to be the game winners. We have guys that Denver traded to us.

I don't use terms like closer or clutch (except when replying to others' statements). They're just based random variation over small samples.
Trade wasn't so much about giving up Gallo/Chandler/Mozgov. You had to give that up. Losing Felton in the trade was the toughest to take because the Knicks lacked true PG play for the rest of that season and for much of last season. Denver didn't need Felton and Billups wasnt the right fit for us. Perhaps it was necessary to obtain a Chandler type in the offseason to move Felton's deal, but I think any lack of success down the stretch over the last two years was mostly due to the loss of Felton or a PG to be able to facilitate playing with Melo and Amare.
