Knicks · Revisit the trade with Denver (page 6)

No, they promote the nuggets coach , management and players, but they come here and bash the knicks coach players and management consistently. But say they live and die NY KNICKS

That being said I’m enjoying the ride. I’m rooting for them to make the ecf and give Miami their best shot. Anything can happen but I wouldn’t put money on it.

What you snd many fail to realize is that Melo was never going into free agenc vhy. He would have gotten less money. He would have pushed for the trade with jersey.

You don't know that. And even if he did we would have still had cap space and assets to go after someone else. We got bullied into that deal.

Panos @ 4/8/2013 12:22 AM
While we're at it, let's discuss dismantling the Crawford/Randolph powerhouse team.
Or, let's discuss whether or not Isiah Thomas is coming back!

Whether or not we paid too much, what's the difference now? The Knicks are a legit team, and if Grunny can continue his magic this offseason we should be even happier next year than this.

jrodmc @ 4/8/2013 2:49 PM
I wonder how many of these threads there are now.

I wonder how many times we will continue to wonder what it would have been like hopping down the .300 ball trail.

I wonder how many extrapolations of possible missed draft opportunities we will continue to hear about 5 - 10 years from now.

I wonder if we can just reach consensus and live with the fact that now is good, and before really suhuucked.

jrodmc @ 4/8/2013 2:50 PM
Good to see the Sombers are still less than 10 in number, apparently.

Small lump.

It varies by the month and May will be the most critical one since that's when most of the playoff games are.

GETTING BACK TO THE QUESTION: DID WE GIVE UP TOO MUCH FOR THE DEMAND OF PLAYING IN NY.... WIN NOW

Just waiting to see who goes further in playoffs.

Funny when I posted the percentages, a few more signed up for we we gave up too much. LOL

AnubisADL @ 4/9/2013 10:30 PM
We definitely overpaid for Melo.

Name one player to leave that extra noney on the table. Name a team willing to lose their best player like Clev lost Lebron?

OGkush121 @ 4/9/2013 10:44 PM
the thing is once you get a genuine star you can build around that star.
you attract other players that might also be willing to take a paycut in order to play on a winning team with a chance of winning it all.
not only that but generaly have one of the best players in the game and one you know you can count on.
Once the hard part is done (getting said star) your team can get better as time goes on by trades/signings.

Superstar trades should never be looked at solely by the trade at the moment.

Did the Nuggets get a lot for Carmelo? Yes.
Does that mean the trade didn't pay off for the Knicks? Hell no.

The Knicks not only have the better team (say whatever you want about the team records (although Denver have been impressive to say the least), but the amount of injuries the Knicks have had to deal with would make a difference in any team), they have a genuine leader, a go-to guy (and a 2nd go-to guy in JR), and even though this team is old and won't be together for long they have the capability of building around him again (this time with younger pieces).

Just take a look at the Heat for example, it's true that they won the title last year, but they're even better this year.
The Heat have steadily been improving year after year since aquiring the other 2 amigos, when they made those signings the Heat had some great stars but a bad team, 2 seasons later and that team is capable of winning tough games without James & Wade.

A team like Denver, as good as it might be and as fun as they are to watch, won't win a championship, they don't have a leader, a go-to guy and when push comes to shove they don't have that "star" factor, I'm not hating on them since I really like that team but they're punching above their weight.

I'm just gonna put it this way, I don't see Denver winning the title, while I do give the Knicks a legitimate shot (and not as a 1 season title-or-bust team)

Nalod @ 4/10/2013 7:13 AM
I don't think any thought Denver would be this good this season no matter what they do in the post season.

Knicks are in "Win now" mode.

Different objectives and expectations.

Win-win!

Denver is about the longer term.

By the time Denver's players get mature and experienced enough, they won't be able to sign them all. !

Exactly. Same thing happened to OKC this new cap structure hurts smaller teams more because the penalties are stiffer.

Very good points playa2 and AnubisADL. Basically there is no future in Denver. Sorry to burst Denver Knuggets fan bubbles in here.

The only core player that is not signed for next year for them is Corey Brewer. Mozzie is also not signed next year. I think they will be fine.

Iggy is an expiring next year which is a great asset for them. Knuggets are in great position for the next 3-4 years.

Iggy can opt out for a long term contract. Plus they will be missing Gallinari for next year.

Funny how Denver future is so bright when they have contracts locked up long term yet the Knicks have cap space in 2 years and it's doom and gloom.

Because we have 3 max contacts type tied up and very little maneuvering left. Also, signed old man Kidd and Camby too long. Hopefully, Novak can increase his value at that contract.

The Knuggets meanwhile signed young players entering their prime.

Gallo hopefully will make a good recovery.

Iggy? I like him a lot but Knuggets GM will not overpay for him.

- Knicks are in win now mode. Amare, Chandler, Kidd, Camby expire summer 2015. So I dont see the big deal.

- Denver is going to have to pay Andre now that Gallinari is down. Who are they going to get to run and gun at SG for cheap? JR Smith? They traded Affalo and will have a huge hole at SG and SF if Igoudala walks.

- Denver is paying STARTER money for McGee to come off the bench for LESS THAN 20 MINUTES a game. WTF!

- Paying 6-7 million a year until 2016 for Chandler who stays injured.

- Paying Gallinari 10 million per until 2016 and he stays injured too

- Andre Miller is 34 too and under contract until 2015

Denver has more problems than the Knicks currently.
