Didn't Amare take a lot longer to come back the last time. I was under the impression he was most likely done for the season.
Amare's a great scorer but for the past 2 years the team has consistently looked much better whenever he's off the court.
I like his post up game but I think he would be a lot harder to integrate then Sheed, Singleton or Camby.

NO chemistry. That takes a period of time and unfortunately going in and out with injuries doesn't help. I still hope he gets back for the playoffs. I would love to see him always paired with another big.
BRIGGS wrote:RonRon wrote:good pick up, would still like to add Hakim Warrick as well though
I liked him as a FA and I think he is a solid player that knows his role, basically same skillset as Kurt Thomas with the 12 footer but is younger and more mobile
Would not be surprised if there is a team option for year that we can use in addition to White's to add salary in the summer
Hakim was on the Bobcats this year. I dont think hes eligible and Singleton is the superior rebounder. If he can play for us like he did for Washington last year ---that would be great.
I agree, Singleton is a solid pickup regardless, I actually wanted him as FA as a vet min
He is basically Kurt Thomas with much more range/mobility
I am pretty sure Warrick was cut late Feb/early March which would make him eligible to play for the play offs
He was traded to Orlando for McRoberts and then cut
I think Warrick's length/athleticism/size could be used to defend the SF/PF as the better defender, especially vs the elites/6'9 with guard skills that are forwards
Singleton is likely picked up as an insurance with the addition to use him as trade bait in the summer to add salary like Gadzuric did for us last year
However unlike Gadz, I think he can actually contribute
In the end
Amare
Wallace
Kurt Thomas
are not going to be in nba shape even if they come back for play offs
James Flight is almost complete garbage with 6 fouls but has a team option like Gadzuric's contract, which is why he isn't cut before Thomas
and
Martin *might* not be 100% for round 1 of playoffs
Chandler/Kidd/Camby has had health issues all year
“It’s something that is right there for us to take, and we’ve just got to figure out how to get it. We’re a little banged up right now with injuries, but again, guys that are in uniform, they’re playing. That’s all I can tell you.”
If the Knicks can survive the first round, it will buy time for healing and cameo minutes.
Approximately a month from now, there will either be cause for widespread panic - or confidence building, headed into the second round.
Is he eligible for the playoffs? I know there are loopholes but I don't know the specifics.
Rotations
TeamBall wrote:I think Singleton might be a placeholder until the playoffs. Woodys got his rotations set.
There is nothing set until Tyson Chandler's nerve issue is resolved.
There is nothing set if Rasheed Wallace screams "ball don't lie" wearing a game uni
There is nothing set until April 20, and it's still not set
There is nothing set if Chris Copeland continues to hustle and think on defense
Nothing about this season has been set. It has been improvised, cut and pasted and characterized by constant change. Why should it be any different in the playoffs?

Is it really far fetched to expect the coach to not want to experiment with lineups in the post season? If key guys are injured then of course that shakes things up. If kmart and tyson are healthy though I dont see Singleton having a huge role unless he plays outstanding these last few games.

Woodson does not want to experiment. He is forced to experiment. It has been like this all season.
Kenyon Martin and Tyson Chandler are injured. As far as their healthy return, nothing is guaranteed. We are missing any quality player taller than 6'9. That is a recipe for being dominated inside.
Whatever role Singleton plays, hope he brings his extra thick shoe inserts. Kevin Garnett is back.
Begley saying it is not clear who the Knicks will waive.

I agree, Earl. I personally think Tyson is being handled with precaution and kmart will be fine by the playoffs. That give Singleton time though and I hope he works out.

TeamBall - the thing that bothers me is Tyson coming back and then needing to shut it down again. The playoffs will be a grind.
The severity of Kenyon Martin's ankle injury makes the date of his return pure speculation. Assumptions about injuries and recovery make great conversation, but have nothing to do with stepping on the court for a back-to-back or a seven game playoff series. No one can tell except the player. For example, there were a lot of people who expected Derrick Rose back. He and Shump suffered similar injuries around the same time. But they were both different.
Shump is finding a groove from three point range while Derrick Rose is playing with his kids.

I think Tyson came back because Martin needed to be shut down. Reports today say he asked out of Thursdays game so that can't be good. The good thing about the playoffs is that the nba schedules it so that there are lots of breaks/no back to backs.
@Ronron...im a syracuse fan and have watched hakim;s career since 2002. Hes a nice guy but hes a 6-9 twig. no strnegth at all. thats why hes a bust! hes just fun for exciting dunks.
folks, acquiring singleton is just for the rest of the season. i dont expect him to sniff the court in the playoffs
BRIGGS wrote:James Singleton is kind of like a Kenyon Martin type. Hes very bouncy but hes got more range. Good signing by the Knicks. Hell be able to contribute and help tomorrow.
Exactly....thats a good comparison. I don't remember him having anymore range than Kenyon, but he's a defensive PF who can play center better than Cope....and guard multiple positions....Great size to put on Lebron / Durant. Saves Melo from killing himself. Now we have two legit players with size and quickness and energy in Kenyon and Singleton.
TeamBall wrote:It just...feels wrong cutting Kurt...
AGREE.....100%
But out of all people, veteran Kurt would understand. Not sure how White is still on the team, other than he's another body to throw at Lebron. And Kenyon Martin, Chandler and Wallace makes Thomas expendable.
But without Thomas, there's no 13 game winning streak!

Even when healthy, and his new low post game....He doesn't make the other players better like Melo does. But as a bench player, he's a great sub for Melo....Keeps that low post option going even when Melo sits.
I just hope Woody doesn't try and get stubborn and play Melo and Stat together. If he keeps Amari as a bench player, then I'm ok with his return.
We can't rely on 3pt shots or JR Smith driving against 7 footers when Melo is on the bench. It helps the shooters to always have a post threat on the floor. Amari gives that option off the bench...But it's counter productive with him next to Melo and Chandler.

Absolutely correct--this team is built to win on a 4-1 set. Altering that would be dangerous--and it has shown for the most part with this team not to work. Amare coming back as a 2nd big for 20 minutes after Tyson sits would be great--we neeed only two guys and a third for foul trouble and spot minutes. Next year we need to draft a young PF and see if we can acquire a second pick for a PG so we have reinforcements and a pipeline for future years.
TeamBall wrote:It just...feels wrong cutting Kurt...
+1. What's his prognosis? Can he come back in the second round? Kurt has Vet Smarts that are needed.
