Knicks · In regards to the fighting amongst us (page 1)
This is the best team the Knicks have had since 1993-94. Carmelo Anthony is the best Knick we've had since Patrick Ewing. JR Smith is the best sixth man we've had since John Starks or Latrell Spreewell (if youw ant to count his brief stint there). Tyson Chandler, at his best anyway, is the best defender we've had since Ewing and maybe possibly Clyde because Chandler can guard multiple positions including PG. Our coach is the best coach we've had since JVG.
So on top of all this shit, I have to listen to things that don't even make sense here - like Melo wasn't worth Felton, Gallo, The Mayor, and Timofey Mozgov when we got Felton, Novak, Shumpert, and Chris Copeland to replace them. It's insane that guys won't even give the Knicks, Mike Woodson, or Melo props even on the 'Ultimate' Knicks messageboard on the internet

Hey you forgot to mention "The Chosen One" or the "Mustache'd One". ![]()
Those 2 guys always touch a nerve.

Actually this kind of response is what fuels debate. There are so few "haters" but they are a vocal group. I have been constant since day one that:
"Its about the play on the court and the knicks need just take care of its own business"
Take what you want from the games.
Regarding Melo, lets examine Lebrone for a second and his image. He needed to tranform from the easy going guy having fun but coming up short to a focused killer who got the job done. Despite being the best player on the planet for the better part of 5 years, he had to exceed his previous image. Kobe gets all kinds of passes becuase he has MVP's and rings.
Melo is in the Barkley-ewing-Stockton-Malone kind of image and while a mulitple allstar and trajectory to be in the HOF based on his statistics, the cred as a "winner" has to be earned in excess of his participation of "one and dones" and the a trip to the ECF!
Knicks have to make ECF's and give Miami a good run for Melo to ELEVATE his image. His legacy in Denver is what it is and its pretty justified: Great player who was selfish at times and gave his coach fits. Denver's success without him does not help and I understand why "homers" don't like that.
King's career was really not that accomplished. HE was a prolific scorer who played on a lot of bad teams and in ny had two massive seasons. Im not speaking ill of Bernard, just looking at the career. If he played in this era after a big coming out party in Syracuse and had the good fortune to have the endorsement deals melo has I would imagine the expectations would have been higher. King had some legal problems and was a polarizing asshole with some substance issues before he put it together in NY. It was a great story. His comeback with the Wizards is what sealed his HOF cred.
King was arrested for stealing a color TV at 2 in the morning in Knoxville Tn, a year AFTER HE LEFT TO BE IN THE NBA!

With the Nets:
14Jul77 Bernard King, NJN - Arrested for possession of marijuana, prowling and resisting arrest [given a 60-day suspended sentence and fined $100 1Aug77]
18Dec78 Bernard King, NJN - Arrested for possession of cocaine, driving while intoxicated and driving without a license
With Utah:2Jan80 Bernard King, UTH - Arrested for possession of cocaine, sodomy, and forced sexual abuse [received two a-year suspended sentences and a $2,000 fine after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of attempted forcible sexual abuse 5Jun80]
He had another domestic abuse charge in 1994 which led to him being fired from the Nets in a front office capacity.
I think Bernard was treated incredible by the media and fans and loved by NY despite all this. So why does melo get so much "hate"?
I think its the Hype. King never had the hype and endorsements.
Just win and the further the knicks can go the better Melo will be viewed.

I think Supreme's talking about within our fan base. Heat fans didnt hate Lebron when damn near every other fan base did. Even one when he completely disappeared in the finals against Dallas, they still supported him.

If knicks jersey and melo being no. 1 I think its pretty universal that Melo is held in very high regard. in pure basketball terms his value is debated and there have been arguements in his 10 years playing in the NBA that have some validity.

held in high regard by the masses - but the people who don't want to be wrong cling to their misguided beliefs. Frankly, I've been enjoying the hell out of my Chandler jersey and going to MSG. I've been having fun talking and emailing friends about the Knicks. Hell, even facebook gets some Knicks support. But not here. Oh well. Whats lost on the Melo do nothing wrong lovers is they dont get this. They will grudgingly admit Melo is a step below Lebron or Durant or got fobid CP3 but then trash anyone who questions their total and utter embrace of his greatness.
As KNICK fan whos watched piece after piece of sh!t flung at the wall to see what sticks for the last ten years I think its fair to take a wait and see approach. Melo is certainly a talented player but good enough to build a contender around? Yet to be seen. But as you can see from this thread it cant be discussed here. Easily the reason Ive stopped posting here. I find the games more enjoyable without checking into UK to read about how every win is because of Melo and every loss is as well.
Melo is the best playing since Ewing. I guess he knocks Marbury off that coveted pedastal. Ewing, a guy who led a cast of role players past the first round for 10 straight years. Yea.. Melo is just like Ewing.
I hope you guys are right and this guy is the chosen one starmooby you all see him as. It would be nice to see the Knicks compete for a title.

P.S. You know what I hate? When I click on a basketball related thread and it's the same one or two posters who derail it into something ego driven or some type of instigation based abyss. Even within this actual thread itself. Major turn off. The Knicks are a good team. I wish the board reflected that these days.

So what? It's their right to have that view. And?
And by the way, I doubt "trash" is the word. Disagree maybe.
I guess the world would come to an end if we actually focused on the Jones signing or the Thomas waiving or the division title or the gazillion other things that are basketball related to talk about. I can see ganging up on non Knick fans who trashed the team and now have to eat their words. But man, people around here gang up on people who actually think positively about the Knicks. It's weird. People also gang up on people who may not have a favorable view of certain things. People can't seem to just disagree.

Even within this actual thread itself. Major turn off. The Knicks are a good team. I wish the board reflected that these days.
Both points in bold have been brought up before, and I think it says more about worldviews than anything else.
Think about that for a second. The board is more positive when the team was a loser. What does that say?
I listen to fans of other teams, in other cities and you almost never hear this level of shit when their team is winning.
Phillies, Sixers fans, they suffer, but when their teams are up, there's no living with them. Homerism is a given as being a good and proper thing.
Here, it's backwards. Homerism is bad, stupid, a sure sign of insipient insanity. The "ten years of watching the crap stick against the wall" has suddenly enabled the UK to be a place of woe, no matter what the record. I bring it up ad nauseam. Remember the 30 and 40 point losses? Remember when a three game winning streak was a big deal, instead of a monthly or biweekly occurrence? Remember the never ending Eddy Curry fat threads? Things were happier back then.
Melo polarized this board like no one this franchise has ever seen. It's been three frickin years! And we are still talking about the trade!
He's not Lebron. He's not Durant. He's not CP3. And for some, he's not Dear Jeremy. Boo hoo.
But they're not Knicks. Melo is. Warts, cheerios, bus storming stupidity and all. As a wise man once said, he might be a starphucque, but he's OUR starphucque!
I've never seen a fan site where homerism for the home team has to be defended, explained, re-defended, re-explained, lather rinse repeat.
Division title? Who gives a shit, division's weak
2 seed? Big effing deal, we aint the Heat, and we won't beat them when it counts.
Melo playing the cellulite off his azz? Loser, who never got out of the WCF. Tee hee, tee hee, look at his All Star warm up jacket.
13 game winning streak? Dr. Barkley says it's fools gold, and by the way, he's been right about us for ten years.
on and on it goes...
we suck. Watch the games.
Welcome to the UK, newbies! Shove that banner up yo azz, sit down and look at that fat boy's career shot %!!!
