Voted for Woodson because of Knicks biase but I think Karl gets it cos they have a better record and iut west and without a true superstar. Still think the knicks are better built for a longer playoff run tho

That should not factor in the vote.
I think Karl gets it also for his return from beating cancer and becomes a bit of a sentimental favorite.
The irony might be pretty funny: Team trades it star player for very little in return (according to the Moobyites)and the team succeeds as never before in its first full season sine the trade! Does he thank Melo when he accepts the award?
At the same time Woodson is a top 5 contender in the discussion with Melo as the leagues leading scorer and knicks finish in first place in 19 years!
I do think they should wait until the playoffs are done. How Phil Jax only gets one award is silly.
Curious as to why coach Spo was excluded from the original list? I think too many times we look for underdog teams who exceeded intial expectations and ignore sustained, consistant excellence. This would explain why Phil Jackson oly has one coach of theyear award. How does arguably the greatest NBA coach of the modern era only have 1 coach of the year award?
With that said, I think Coach Spo will and prbably should get the nod for coach of the year. After winning the championship, his team has had a better year this year than last. They're winning % is at .800 compared to .690 last year. They also won 27 straight and have the best record in the league. No question, Coach Spo should win it imo.....
I can coach the heat with lebron wade bosh and allen to 60wins

This is my reason for Karl:
he does not have a superstar,
to my mind, Woodson cannot win coach of year because he has a superstar,
teams with superstars HAVE to win 50 games, at least, this is the minimum,
but Karl took a team of rag tag role players and made them into something like 54 or 55 game winners in the WESTERN conference, not even the Eastern,
at the same time, i am rooting for Woody, but i don't think he has a shot
My reasons for Karl are very simple....
vs OKC = 3-1
vs Spurs = 2-2
vs Clippers 2-1
vs Grizzlies 3-1
vs GSW 3-1
vs Rockets 4-0
vs Lakers 3-1
That's their record against teams in the Playoffs from the Western Conference....DUH WINNING!!!!!!
I voted for Woodson but you guys make a good case. Woodson deserves runner up though.

Sweeping statenments like this is BS and is an insult to some really elite coaches past and present. Essentially, what you are saying is any Tom, Dick or Harry could have won the same 11 rings that Phil Jackson won while coaching Jordan, Pippen, Kobe and Shaq. Or Red Auerbach is overrated and anyone could have done what he did.
Spo is the blame when/if they lose and gets zero credit if they win....

You mean Woody deserves runner up but Woodson the guy fans were calling for firing around end of December isn't runner up. Gotta love how a coach can be COY and deserve firing and/or non return to the bench next season in the same season.
Woody deserves some credit but he coached in a Division where 3 of the 5 teams practically had losing seasons or barely a winning season.
I'd probably have Woodson ranked somewhere 4th or 5th
Another I reason Karl separates himself is this NO BIAS....
http://espn.go.com/nba/stats/rpi/_/sort/........Top 5 all year all the way to Top 1

Who, other than the misinformed or the MDA apologists were calling for Woodson's firing?

That makes absolutely NO SENSE.
Coaching in NY and the scrutiny that comes along with it makes the knicks job a hell of a lot more difficult than coaching in Denver and alike. Another reason that Woody (I believe) deserves the nod.
I don't think he is nearly as good as Pop or Karl but he had a surprisingly good year.

how does it make no sense?
if you have a superstar, the expectation is 50 wins, period,
to get coach of the year consideration with a superstar on your team, you have to pull in 60 at a minimum,
that's why superstars get the cash, they are to guarantee 50 win seasons at the minimum, otherwise this is not a superstar

why is it more difficult? DOes the media play a zone defense? Does the media rebound? Does the media have shoot more 3's?
It might be a more difficult job in some aspects but wins and losses in ny harder?
Should he get votes because of what in particular of working in NY?

Nuggs just had its best season ever. No superstar. Lets keep it generic.

So you disqualify every coach that has a superstar?

i should have been more clear,
if you have a superstar, then your minimum win total for consideration is 60 wins

Scrutiny of the new york media makes the job far more difficult. I did not think that this was even debatable.

that's why i said i should have been more clear,
teams with superstars HAVE to win 50 games, minimum,
but for coach of the year honors, they need to win 60 games.
