Knicks · GS Beating Denver shows why Stars Win in the Playoffs (page 5)

Knicks play good when Melo sits yet he averaged 41 minutes per game so far.

Knicks did win because we have star. The other guys were able to get off just by Melo being on the floor. Boston was focused on Melo not Shumpert, Felton, and Prigioni.

Also the TEAM let Boston go on that massive run. Melo stepped up and helped stop the bleeding.

The Knicks did all their damage in the 8 min he sat in each game and played about even with them in the 40 min he was on the court. So your second sentence makes no sense.

It's a great sign for the Knicks, though. It's hard to imagine Melo shooting this badly again in round 2.

Agreed. Melo scored 7 straight points to close out the game. He came through in the clutch. Bad shooting night but he closed out the game. Teams don't win best of 7 series with role players.

Oh by the way a few of Denver's key players are opting out of their contract. So I wonder what Denver will look like. When Gallo's contract comes up again I don't think he stays in Denver.

It only supports the few who said young teams are on the rise...GSW and Rockets who are still alive are evidence of this. Denver will return

Key pieces in Denver plan to opt out of their contract.

GS and Houston have young and legit stars, which is the biggest reason they're on the rise.

Denver doesn't, which is the biggest reason they're not on the rise.

I guess if you keep repeating that, you will believe it..

Plus Key pieces on Denver's team plan to opt out of their contract. And really when Gallo's contract comes up again do you really think he is going to sign with Denver?? I don't think so.

Speaking of stars winning in the playoffs, say what you want about Carmelo. But, what about Derrick Rose? He obviously could've come back months ago. He bailed on his team this season despite being healthy. In my mind, Rose is showing that he's not a character guy. That's sad.

How is hitting 3 shots out of 12 in the 4th quarter coming through in the clutch? Yesterday was a horrible game for Melo, he didn't do anything "clutch". Was getting the ball stolen from him in the middle of Boston's run because he was zoning out clutch? I've defended Melo many times before but last night was terrible, hitting a shot in the 4th quarter doesn't make you clutch. When you Iso every possession in the entire quarter you're bound to make 1-2 shots in the entire 12 minutes. Melo has helped us plenty of games this season, Game 6 WAS NOT one of those games.

This team shows you need your star to win but also how to build a team correctly around your star. I don't want to hear people talk about doom because of no flexibility. Adding Prigioni is another example of your ability to add good cheap players if you are resourceful. We must continue to add guys like him and copeland in the future. Prig has been a huge part of this series success.

Me and you must have watched different two different games. We were up 4 and I saw Melo score 7 straight pts for the team. Pull up 15 footer put us back up 6 and the 3 pointer was essentially the nail in the coffin as it gave us some breathing room and halted the Celts blitz. Did hew have a bad shooting game? Of course he did. But he hit some key shots down the stretch to secure victory....

after missing 10...and it wasn't three baskets in a row. How do you think our lead was decimated so quickly in the first place: Lazy passes and predictable offense where melo held onto the ball for 20 seconds possession after possession, there was no movement whatsoever.

It's no use. People blamed Ewing too.

Its when you score. Our backs were against the wall, the Celts were coming like a Rhino and he made 2 big baskets, 1 of them a big 3 and 2 freethrows. Those were a very big 7 points. Without them, we lose.....

Again, we must have watched a different game because they didn't start going iso until after the Celts had come all the way back into the game. Bradley lead the come-back by completely shutting down Felton. He denied him on the inbounds passes, stealing one on a sideline inbounds and then forcing another turnover on Felton. Then, when Felton finally got the ball, Bradley harassed him into another panic turnover. KMart was coming up to set a pick but Ray was feeling the heat and threw an ill-advised sloppy bounce pass that was stolen and lead to a Pierce 3 point play.

The lack of movement you speak of occurred after those plays I just mentioned the Celts were back in the game. Felton certainly played a hell of a series but had an abismal final 7 mins. Melo brought the ball up to relieve the pressure. I'm not a big fan of iso on every play own the stretch but I understand it. Give to Melo early, at the top so the double team cant come and if they do, he will see it coming. Also, lets be honest, the whole league iso's down the stretch in tight games. Lebron does it, Pierce in his prime did it, Kobe does it, Durant does it, Harden does it.....The iso plays did slow the Celts moment down and milk the clock.....

I appreciate you breaking down a lot of the possessions as I would be to lazy to go back and check, but I still think melo was way too stick with the ball down the stretch. I have nothing against him though, so I'll stop piling it on, and just accept our difference of opinion.
