Knicks · The Knicks Were on Fire from the Field Last Night...Except for Melo and JR (page 1)

Bonn1997 @ 5/6/2013 8:09 AM
If you take off Melo & JR's 14 for 43, you're left with 21 for 38 (.553 FG%, .621 TS%). Melo and JR took 43 shots and combined for just 3 assists. We won't win if they're just chuckers. I don't know why they feel they have to take 40 to 45 shots combined each night.
IronWillGiroud @ 5/6/2013 1:12 PM
we were on fire..except for the two guys that take 95% of our shots
Solace @ 5/6/2013 1:19 PM
Unfortunately, it seems Melo and JR hold the same belief as Nate Robinson that they're always on fire. Guys, you were not on fire. The warmth you felt was just due to the physical beatings the Pacers gave you.

Also the afterglow of the booze you drank the night before the game

Right. Brings a new meaning to Tequila shooters.

Nah, those #s don't tell the whole story. Only
Felton - 8-12
Kmart 5-8
Cope 2-3

were on fire.

Tyson was 2-2, but his only method of scoring is alley-hoops and put backs - doesn't really count
Shump 4-11 - wasn't that great
Prigs - wasn't looking for his shot at all 0-1
Kidd - 0-1 Can't remember the last time he scored; also won't shoot even if open

and obviously the rest of the bad offense was Jr and Melo.

We had a defense, rebounding and offense problem last night. Don't think we can play worse than that.

AnubisADL @ 5/6/2013 1:26 PM
Yea Melo should pull a Kobe a take 10 shots for the entire game so people can still roast him.

Put backs don't count? Is Carmelo Anthony your tutor? Next thing you're gonna say is that off-balance, contested 20 foot jump-shots are worth 6 points apiece.

Melo & JR had seven teammates enter the game. Shumpert is the only one who took more than 1 shot and was below 60% from the field.

FElton, KMart, Cope, & Tyson together shot 17 for 25.

It doesn't count as being on fire from the field. No it doesn't ... should have asked what I meant before making uncalled for statements.

So Shaq was never on fire in his career? You have an unusual viewpoint IMO.
In most definitions, "on fire" refers to the rate at which you are making FGAs, not the location on the floor you are taking them from.
nixluva @ 5/6/2013 1:42 PM
It's funny cuz when Melo decided to let his teammates get hot in Game 6 against the Celtics, the Knicks built a huge lead. At some point Melo and JR will hopefully realize that when the ball moves this team is VERY potent. TEAM BB is how we got here and it has to be the main focus of this team to always make a defense rotate before taking bad shots. When they move the ball they end up with great shots and not forced shots.

It's not just Melo and JR that I blame, but as coach Woody has to make this a priority rather than allowing them to chuck us to death. His refusal to press this issue has been his downfall. It seems to me that we have to assume Wood isn't stressing this enough cuz we keep falling into the same ISO issues and there isn't a timeout and immediate correction!!!

Well I guess we disagree. Shaq had post moves and could score on his own. Tyson does not. He had a dunk off a alley-hoop and a putback ... No I don't consider that being on "FIRE" and furthermore ... I believe JVG was arguing during last year playoffs that to say a player is on "fire" with less than 4-5 FGA is blasphemy. Try saying that tyson was on fire on the playground and you'll get laughed at.

Bonn1997 @ 5/6/2013 1:50 PM
Just looking at the shot chart. I see Melo and JR combined to shoot 5 for 20 in the paint.

I said the supporting cast as a whole was on fire and Tyson contributed to that. I didn't say Tyson by himself was on fire.
I see no good reason to exclude shots near the basket though. It's not like they count less.

Artis Gilmore called. He wants someone to put him out.

It's not quantity. It's quality. I don't care if Melo takes 30 shots, if they're good shots or if he's exploiting a mismatch.

When he holds the ball for 10-15 seconds, and then takes a bad shot when passing would've been more appropriate, then I have a problem. He's reverting to old Melo, not the MVP candidate we talked about.

You mean his alter-identity, MElo?

Yes. It's driving me nuts. I defended this guy this season because he gave the impression that he had changed. All of the sudden, the playoffs start and nobody other than him and JR are getting touches. Even Felton isn't getting enough touches, in my opinion.
