puts stuff in perspective

Did you get drunk during bible study again?

Ecclesiastes is a great book.

IronWillGiroud @ 5/13/2013 1:43 PM
lol,

i don't drink anymore jrod, haven't in a long, long time;

i stopped drinking when i realized that i'm what they call 'gifted',

and because of this i have a duty, a responsibility toward my fellow man;

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
Bonn1997 @ 5/13/2013 2:21 PM
Do they call you "gifted" or "special"?
jrodmc @ 5/13/2013 3:27 PM
SupremeCommander @ 5/14/2013 8:56 AM
Awesome
IronWillGiroud @ 5/14/2013 6:39 PM
good one bonndawg,

hey funny cartoon but for the regular people, they do not really understand it; someone like the poster above me thinks it's a knock on people claiming to be gifted,

but it's much deeper than this; the cartoon is actually a clever commentary on the problems highly intelligent and gifted people face in their everyday lives; i worked as a shipping clerk for a wireless company in my student days and i was so bad at taping boxes that the boss had a full out fit one day; i think he thought i was retarded; it's little things like this--- easy stuff is "difficult" because it's so far below my thinking; differential equations was a breeze in school but i could not tape a box properly (of course, after some effort, i learned to tape boxes well, but i was not happy about this)

jrodmc @ 5/15/2013 1:17 PM
Umm, you may want to look up the term 'idiot savant'.

Your story is truly scaring me, IWG.

IronWillGiroud @ 5/15/2013 8:27 PM
lol

the idiot savant is maybe an extreme case of giftedness,

my own endowment is several notches below this, at a level where i can tone it down a little bit for the sake of fitting in, like at work or at social events,

i feel very comfortable on this forum, which is why i am telling you this, and it feels good to receive such positive reaction.

my intelligence has been a burden for most my life and it is only in the past year or so that i have really started to understand it; life has improved markedly once i realized that there is nothing 'wrong' with me,

now i am a stage in my life where i am coming to terms with my abilities, i am becoming very comfortable with this gift, and it really is a gift,

to have such high capacity in multiple areas, such as: above average to high verbal intelligence, high mathematical ability, high visual and spatial aptitude, above average to high athletic ability,

every day of my life, even if i am not doing anything extraordinary, is a blast,

i just took a walk by myself, barefoot, and i stood on a patch of moist grass, and i had an absolute blast

IronWillGiroud @ 5/15/2013 8:29 PM
the best way to describe it is as a "full" experience, i feel everything, so many areas of human experience, such high sensitivity,

it's obvious that i must put these gifts to good use, and that is to bring good things to people, i just don't know how i will do this yet.

Markji @ 5/16/2013 6:13 AM
IronWill - are you perhaps "in the zone" or another way of saying having experiences of higher states of consciousness? I am curious if you have done any meditation or yoga, or have read up on the ideas, experiences and goal of yoga. (Note: Yoga is a lot more than just the "exercises" or positions that are popular today.)

I'll take Too Much LSD for 500, Alex

Now that made me spit up coffee. Right through my nose onto the keyboard! Bravo! And what's so amazing about it, I was drinking orange juice. Must be my above average high resolution and spatial equilibrium.

I am officially, truly scared of you now. For real.

Just promise IronWil, that you will not:
1) Write books about Maximizing Your Potential and how little Enrons north of Mars told you you're Jesus.
2) Appear on QVC late nights, shilling magic mystery mathmatic marbles
3) Start a cult headquartered in South America

Stick to telling us about the dead lift squat records you're setting and how you slap the backboard on every layup.

I want to sleep peacefully at night knowing I'm posting on a board free from the next gen of trendy sociopaths.

I assume modesty is not one of your "gifts"
IronWillGiroud @ 5/16/2013 7:31 PM
modesty is actually one of my strongest points,

problem is that you guys just don't get it, and part of that is my fault because maybe i did not explain it well enough; but part of it is also that regular people can't understand something so fundamentally different from their own experience,

put it this way: there is a small minority of people in the world whose brains are wired differently than 99% of people around them, this isn't only limited to high intelligence; giftedness can be in athletics too--- jordan is gifted, melo is gifted;

this is what i am, it's not that i'm showing off, it's that i'm telling you about myself so that you can better understand where i'm coming from, where my posts and threads are coming from--- they're from a fundamentally different perspective than normal people,

i experience the world in a different world than you

one thing that i did not mention and this is what drives the entire gifted personality in my case, is that there is an underlying energy, an impulse that most people cannot imagine, it's a mind that is constantly engaged, my brain doesn't take time off, most people come home from work and they want to veg out with some television; i come home and my mind is at a 100 mph, always; i wake up and i'm ready to go in a minute, it's just so wild, i wish i could explain it better but maybe there is no way to explain this to a population that is indoctrinated to hate that which is different, this is why the life of a gifted person is never easy, and it is probably more of a burden than anything if it is in the wrong environment,

giftedness is hell in the wrong environment but the greatest of blessings if the person can find the right place

IronWillGiroud @ 5/16/2013 9:06 PM
another thing,

it is also the speed of my thought, so fast,

jrodmc @ 5/17/2013 9:11 AM
IronWillGiroud wrote:modesty is actually one of my strongest points,

This is truly classic. Have you ever considered a career in stand-up comedy?

If you could deliver lines like this in a flat, unemotional monotone, you'd be truly blessed using those higher math skills counting your money.

IronWillGiroud @ 5/17/2013 1:27 PM
hahahahahaha

i breathe through my nose and into my belly, that's as far as i'm going to go into yogi wogi

IronWillGiroud @ 5/18/2013 11:01 PM
look it's not that i'm being arrogant,

it's that when you function at my level of thinking, you recognize the necessity of explaining the condition from which your contributions spring from,

if i did not detail this giftedness situation, my posts could easily be interpreted as something much worse than extremely high intelligence

IronWillGiroud @ 5/19/2013 11:14 AM
“Giftedness is ‘asynchronous development’ in which advanced cognitive abilities and heightened intensity combine to create inner experiences and awareness that are qualitatively different from the norm. This asynchrony increases with higher intellectual capacity. The uniqueness of the gifted renders them particularly vulnerable and requires modifications in parenting, teaching, and counseling in order for them to develop optimally.”
