I think Melo is the cause of all his issues. He should have not helped his team get to the playoffs for 2 straight years so Denver could collect high lottery picks to add to the core. Instead, Denver was stuck with low first rounders to build around.
Durant did it smart. He didn't get his team to the playoffs his first 2 years in the NBA allowing OKC to draft Russell Westbrook and James Harden.
If he had just simply not been good enough to get his team anywhere those 2 years he might have gotten to play with Dwight Howard and Chris Paul/Deron Williams.
He comes here and leads this team to the 2nd seed in the East when really we needed a high lottery pick.

You might also note that Melo went with "Coming Home" party theme instead of "The Decision" theme, where he might have been able to starphucque with real stars instead of second tier glass punchers and DPOY Offensive geniuses.
And we are seeing just how great Mr. OKC Efficiency is without both of those draft picks when it counts, aint we?

Sometimes it seems like had we chose to give up Fields instead of Gallinari then people would have been more open minded about Melo going in. I dont get it...

Another way to look at it:
Having a guy who gets paid $20MM with no kness is what's putting this team in a bind.
Take Amare's $ and give it to a few solid role players or to someone who actually deserves that kind of money and we smack the Pacers around.
I posted something like this another thread ... Melo has been just about one of the few players that led his team to the playoffs every single year since being drafted. Before he was drafted Denver haven't seen a playoff series in 8 years. Did not receive a draft pick before No. 20 ... Only 2 good picks they had was Jameer Nelson and Jarret Jack.

Only superstar in the league is Lebron. At this point, as good as KD is, I don't have them in the same category. He has officially put himself on a level of MJ as far a play ... still have have a lot of winning to do though.
Melo seems to get all the credit for winning the division and leading us to the playoffs. None of the blame when we are getting pimp slapped.
Superstars get bounced from the playoffs all the time. In my view this series is not on Melo at all. He has been our best player. But he has not played anywhere close to a superstar.

Our core players Chandler, Shumpert, Felton, and in some ways Stoudemire are not old. The only old players we have are ones that were designed to fill out the roster with veteran play, but none of those players are part of our core. Who cares if our 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th guys need to retire. They are all 10-15 mpg guys if they play at all.

I can't call anybody a superstar, if they can't play defense, or bring something else to the table, other than scoring. Unless Melo was a dominant Center that scores in the paint....Melo is a jump shooting scorer, and Durant is even a better jump shooting scorer.
I can't think of one superstar that can only do 1 think great, and the rest is average or below.
Rodman is a good example. Great rebounder, defender, blocks shots, and athletic enough to out run most players at his position. But the average fan would take Melo over Rodman.......
You can't simply be just a scorer, and call yourself a superstar.
We added Melo with Amari, because Miami got Lebron, Wade and Bosh. Otherwise, we should've built a team around Stat or around Melo.....Add young stars that compliment either player, not both. And not just add stars just to use up the cap room and say we have 2 to match Miami's 3.....We were doomed from the very beginning since Lebron made the big decision.
