*Disclaimer = am i giving up on this season? im kinda frustrated right now and it doesnt look good. So lets just say, one foot is already half way out the door. Instead of staying pissed off, I did some research on how we can change/improve this team. Not only do i like to watch and play basketball but i like playing GM. so heres what i learned last nite when i was doing research:
- the magic number to make trades is $76 mil (thats the "apron" threshold)
- its NOT $60mil (the salary cap) like i thought it was
- the knicks are at $76.4mil...so all they have to do is DUMP JR cut the rest of the scrubs and THEN they can make some trades
- the only asset whos tradable is tyson ($14mil)
- are we gonna acquire CP3 or Dwight, i doubt it...but it gives me hope that we can make some moves
please correct me if im wrong and also what trades would you consider (realistic ones - melo isnt going anywhere and amare isnt being traded cuz any GM would be fired on the spot)
Amare's 20 million contract is Allan Houston status at the moment. Knicks are dead in the water cap wise until summer 2015.
@AnubisADL...see from my understanding, thats not true. Amare cant be touched but that doesnt mean they cant make trades.

Basically explains why sign and trades will be less likely with the new CBA. If you perform a sign and trade you will be locked into a hard cap which basically means you have to be able to fit that players contract under the salary cap plus 4 million.
Pretty much killing any chance at sign and trades during the summer. This is why OKC traded Harden so early in the year. They knew he would get the max.

$76M is the magic number for sign-and-trades, not all trades. And that's only the number for this year, we won't know the number for next year until the NBA releases the salary cap sometime this Summer. Trades involving combinations of players under contract, draft picks, and cash are still able to be made though I think they're are added restrictions if we're at the luxury tax threshold.
ok i read the article...from what i understand, you can make a sign and trade as long as youre under the 76$ mil (luxury tax) afterwards
