carmelo anthony is a fantastic scorer. one of the best in the league.
when cast as your #1 guy, you can definitely win a bunch of regular season games.
you can also get some wins in the postseason.
winning a bunch of games in the regular season and getting to the playoffs should not be looked at as a bad thing. many franchises long for that and it basically defines the entire knicks organization from 1995 on. when the knicks didn't win the title in 1994 with jordan away, the team really need to figure things out and make some pretty drastic changes. but instead of doing that, they kept trying to band aid the situation. led to a ton of great regular seasons and some great postseason series but for all intent and purpose, they were never going to win a title. not alot of owners/teams are forward thinking and ready to sacrifice current success for the future b/c it is unknown.
the opportunity to win a title with melo relies alot on some luck and circumstance.
denver put together a fantastic loaded squad under melo, but it was not good enough to challenge for a title. they peaked under melo making it to the wcf and then within 2 years, he was gone.
the knicks have won a ton of regular season games but failed in the playoffs. this much on the the back of melo but with a much older and weaker squad than denver's. alot had to due with being in a very weak east and being able to overachieve during the regular season.
but looking at the knicks roster, the prospects of improving are very very poor. they are limited in what moves they can make. this reminds me alot of the iverson/sixers situation. they were able to break through to the finals one year and that's where they peaked. in a weak eastern conference, they put together some good regular seasons but could not get to that next level with iverson.
melo is top notch but trying to build a team with him as your primary guy doesn't give you alot of options to construct a roster. this is not a robin/batman situation. melo needs to be batman and robin (much like iverson and not a wonder why pairing both of them didn't work). there is no one out there to put this team over the hump. so if the objective is to make the finals, then the entire organization needs to re-evaluate. problem for you all is that with dolan in charge so you know what the outcome is going to be.

Voshon Leonard and Earl Boykins were the Robin to Melo's Batman on those squads...They were the second leading scorers on Melo's Denver teams, different teams mind you...Later came Billups...
You need good players and good coaching to win championships. There is no way around it. MELO will get you to playoffs year in and out with decent talent and a very good coach he can do a lot of damage.
Also, how is the injured Amare episode ignored??
How did Kobe do without Shaq and Gasol??..500 ball??..Wade without Shaq and Bron...Durant without Westbrook and Harden...
I have no problem with Melo as the centerpiece...Dude went for almost 40 last night. I thought he was great. Played his heart out. He needs better pieces around him. The right pieces..

Correct, it doesn't matter you need both and the knicks had a coach who dropped the ball when it was there for the taking . No other way to look at it.

the amare "episode" is another reason why this team has peaked with melo.
this is not about blaming melo. if this team can get gasol/bynum around kobe for melo, then cool - but grunwald has made his bed with this roster and the options are very limited. that's why it's peaked.
if you look hard, his sneakers say "all melone" :)

Exactly. What's he supposed to say? It was a decent team...Better than decent to be fair -- we did win 54 games. But it's not good enough to go all the way. Chandler and JR Smith and to a lesser degree Amar'e (I'll give him a bit of a pass here coming off knee surgery) aren't a good enough supporting cast. Bottom line is that Melo needed at least Chandler & Smith to play big--at least contribute--and for the 2nd year in a row, they failed (esp. Chandler and JR -- how much could we really expect out of a guy coming off knee surgery and thrust right into a playoff series against an Indiana team with that high-caliber a frontcourt?). These two didn't show up in this series at all...Melo deserved better man...I think it's been proven now we don't have the proper formula. We may not be able to make wholesale changes but clearly some degree of augmentation is needed.

What exactly are you hoping to gain from convincing other people to blame Melo? I admit he was garbage in the Boston series and shot awfully all playoffs and also had 2 turnovers that basically blew the game yesterday but hes still not going anywhere.

You can't do much. We expected a lot from Amare and it didn't happen. We got Tyson Chandler out of fear because of what the Nets was doing and we needed a big man. With the team we have now if Melo leaves and everyone else stays we become a lottery team. That's how valuable Melo is to this team
