I'm typically all about BPA but I think the Knicks need to draft for need and I'd take a rebounding big - because there are none on the roster - or a PG with passing ability because I'm assuming/praying Kidd will retire

Everytime we draft for need we get burned.

Frye versus Bynum
Jordan Hill versus numerous PGs

Draft BPA even if that player is a SF.

Another really good player to watch for around slot 20 SG Victor Olapido Indiana---maybe best athlete or close to it in the upcoming draft but also has a really nice handle and plays 120% high motor. NBA body and athletic ability

Right now my top 5 for projected below 20 are(in no order)

Nate Wolters PG South Dakota State
Victor Olapido SG Indiana
Kelly Olynyk C /PF Gonzaga
David Mcdermott F Creighton
Erick Green CG V Tech

Yes you have but *DOUG* McDermott has been my guy all season long. Don't think he fits a need now though. But I think he will likely be the BPA when the Knicks draft, if he declared

He stayed in school. I would still very likely take Kely Olynck number 1 overall if it was my choice--not as a C but PF.

it's a fair point and I'm usually adamently opposed to drafting for need. I just think this team needs balance... Shump over Faried seems to be working although the team coul really use the rebounding (not bashing Shump for whoever is thinking of quoting me out of context).

There are a few players I want more and like better but Rice Jr. wouldn't be terrible at 24. Makes even more sense if JR isn't asked back. We really need closure to that situation asap. To all our potential FAs actually -- Prigioni & Copeland too. Are these guys staying or going? When's the official day when negotiations can begin -- the day after the Finals conclude?

@BRIGGS - i wasnt as high on Green like you were. I remember him playing in college and thinking this is a nice college scorer who wont have the height to play in the NBA. my assumption was that he was a SG masquerading as a PG due to lack of size. Ive watched some highlight scouting reports on him. Hes more of a ballhandler than i remember and excellent off the PNR. My only concern is his defense. DUDE is mad small and gets crushed on screens. he needs to bulk up a bit. Other than that i would take him at #24

1.8 steals a game his junior year, Ned. 1.3 this past season I believe. Good numbers that signify somewhat of a defensive presence. And 6'3" is good size for a point; slightly below average for a 2, but adequate. The lack of size doesn't hurt Steph Curry out in GS. This kid's a lead guard; doesn't really matter what position he's manning. He's skilled enough to man both...Another thing I liked about Green is the fact that he logged heavy mins the last 2 years (over 34 and 36 respectively) and not only did he not break down but he thrived and excelled. Production was threw the roof this season across the board, never suffering. Worst case-Devin Harris, best case-Steph Curry. I'll take something in between.

Thats my feeling to. Even if the player doesnt fit your system perfectly u take him anyway because they will have more value in a trade. It seems like the Knicks never take the guy I want them to and it usually ends terribly. The only time recently the Knicks took a player that wasnt signifigantly worse then the 1 I wanted was Shumpert. I wasnt crazy about Shumpert because he didnt have a jump shot. Didnt like having a SG with no jump shot playing next to Melo

need to draft a Big and then hopefully we trade Tyson

That would be the best case scenario. Trading Tyson would open so many doors for the Knicks to get better.

So basically he is comparable to George Hill.

I'm still upset about the Ewing trade. I think we should get Glen's son for nothing.

Vmart--I think we should keep the continuity. I posted let's trade Tyson a few times--and I dont think that is necessarily wrong--but after taking a step back--I think its in the best interests of the Knicks to keep him and challenge him to get stronger and improve. When Dallas won the title Tyson avg 7 pts and 9 rebounds--yes thats it. He has not given us that output here in the post-season(s) but is it a stretch that with hard work he can give us regular season output of 11-11? If Tyson works hard to put on 10-12 pounds of muscle that I think he needs to keep strong through the year and be able to go up against a guy like Hibbert without being pushed around and come back with just one simple post move and a 12-14 footer that he can make--hes fine. Saying we want to make a pick at 24 and that they can step in is not going to happen imho. Dieng is 227 pounds--he is more of a version of serge Ibaka than a C. I dont see one guy in this draft who can start right away at C in the NBA if we consider Olynck and Zeller PF's--they are all raw and project guys.

Its hard to determine bPA for sure:)

The only hope would be to trade him for a different position and a former 1st round center and hope they blossom like Vucevic

Vucevic was already a skill player at 7-0 260 before he came to the NBA. Olynck is the most skilled big but hes not a C imho. There is nobody at 24 who is going to be 7-0 260 and compare to Vucevic. There is nobody at 1 who will be as good as Vucevic.

Here's one statistical model. You can see the model has a pretty good history with only occasional misses.
Solace @ 5/24/2013 2:09 PM
I really like Glen Rice, but the name value alone isn't enough to make me want the Knicks to draft his son. Btw, interesting post, Bonn.
Solace @ 5/24/2013 2:09 PM
0% chance of star? Well, that de-escalated quickly. Second highest bust percentage in top 25 picks. Pass.

To be honest--that model looks pretty good. I think thats a fair mock draft and hes only taking the advanced stats in evaluation. For example--lets take Mike Muscala--small school playing post 5. Now we know he really is a mobile 4(body weight/height actually are nice for that position). In the combine he was the best shooter period I think he hit 80% of his shots and thats at 6-11 230 his athletic numbers are good good wingspan great shot good rebounder yet hes projected as low as late 40's as a C yes as a PF higher. But advanced stats PER say otherwise backed up by combine shooting athletic testing etc...
