he would not have been fired for having a DUI so I doubt it really matters. College coaches don't get axed unless they have girlfriends in the car and their wives are not too hip to the idea. I would imagine he'll have a clause in his contract about alcohol abuse. We are not privy to everything but one could imagine he could have sought counseling for his problem and might have a better handle on things. For two reasons he would have done it:
1. better to go before the judge and say you been doing it and have some tangable result.
2. In the event you want a new career as a NBA head coach!
Dolan must be pissed, he loves guys that are recovering as it makes them more human!
Its one thing to crash your car and rack up DUI's as a player. That won't fly as a coach. The Angel of Stern (as Kornheiser of PTI likes to say) will put the hammer down hard if he pulls this crap going forward.

Now while I can't say that for all NBA owners I can imagine on the road to a very high net worth as a lot of owners have reached there has been some. Paul Allen's Microsoft had been found guilty of being a Monopoly and had to pay some hefty fines. Clippers Sterling as a slum lord, in fact most real estate guys have had "infractions" over time. Prohkorov has been collecting the wealth of oligopoly's in Russia. These are the employers that pay Stern.
Granted, there is a morals cauze in contracts and thats not to say Kidd having this problem before would not be shitcanned if it happend again. I think if one digs deep enough you'll find many uber successful people have dark spots on their record. Temper issues, substance abuse, social issues, domestic issues etc.
He is one of the faces of a billon dollar operation and will have to act accordingly. I suspect Jasons got good car service these days.
