I ask because I was reading a few articles this morning stating that Doc Rivers may be on the verge of walking away from Boston.

While I do think they failed I dont believe Woodson is at the top of the blame.

This is true.
When it comes to coaches the simple truth is that they all need good players in order to win a Title. However, not all coaches are created equal. You usually can't really tell the difference until you get into the playoffs and see how they look head to head with a coach and another good team. When the talent is equal and relatively close that's when a coach really earns his money. Doc has proven that he can deliver if he has the horses. We only have negative info on Woody in this particular scenario. Woody froze up like a pop sickle or a deer in headlights when he was in the spotlight. Sure this team had flaws, but that doesn't change the fact that Woody was less than inspiring as the leader out there. We can point to great coaching by guys like Thibs, MJax and Vogel who all got a lot out of the teams they had. They lost but did so pushing their teams to perform higher than their talent or experience should allow. The Knicks actually underperformed and that's huge knock on Woody. Not high on him at all. He's not terrible, just nothing special.
Woodson is a good coach and a keeper. I would like to see him hire and offensive coordinator because, he has shown himself to be a good motivator and has the ability to relate to players, especially the young ones with maturity issues like JR. Most coaches would view him as a problem child but, Woodson was able to connect with him and gain his respect despite (or perhaps because of) the tough love Woody showed him. I like that.

thats why I keep saying all he really needs to do is hire and offensive coordinator. He has proven to be a very good motivator, his offense is just too predictable.

It's gonna be predictable when everyone knows what your two highest shot takers are likely to shoot.
The Knicks were at their best when melo made quick decisions with the ball and JR driving more to the rim, that doesn't take an offensive coord.
As far as the defense, the Knicks weren't even a solid defensive team, they won primarily on offense and a few late key stops.
Apparently we're very high on Woodson; his replacement threads are running a close second to the MoobyMelo hate threads

That is regular season offense, you play a lot of crappy teams during the year. Playoffs is what separates the men from the boys. In the playoffs you see good teams and good teams know how to make the necessary adjustments to squeeze a team. One thing you can't be is predictable in the playoffs.
Doc was in the lottery about to be fired before Boston got Garnett and Allen.

Your right.. the playoffs do separate the men from the boys. Funny how our players have terrible playoff records year after year but our current coach is to blame for that also.

For 10 years Melo has averaged 41% in the playoffs. But when it happens here its because of bad coaching. Its like blaming Isiah for Marbury's malcontent attitude. Marbury was a mental case for year and people expected him to change here. Why? Why are you expecting Melo to play something besides give me the ball and get out of the way?
Woody's 100% all defense was perfect in my opinion. Trying to change Melo is failing endevour. Just ask Mike Dantoni. Woody watched the whole thing unfold and realized the way to advance is to crush the opponent defensively and hope MElo gets hot. It was working great. While Melo was hot. Guy goes cold and its on the coach?????

Who cares where he finished in COY voting? Since 04-05 MDA, Avery Johnson, Sam Mitchell, Byron Scott, Mike Brown, and Scott Brooks have all won the award. Hell, George Karl just won it and Denver's letting him go.

almost EVERY team changes the schemes during the playoffs because your playing the same teams multiple times allowing you the time and consistency of opponent to do so. During the season, there is less time to practice and make such adjustments so, Teams & Coaches go with a specific philosophy but, the playoffs, thats when you step your game up, players AND coaches.
