Knicks · We have been changing our roster yr after yr after yr. (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 6/18/2013 9:06 AM
We brought 7 new guys last season, the season before that we made the blockbuster trade for melo.

Seems like were heading in the same direction this yr. How are we ever going to have any stability or chemistry if we keep changing the bulk of the roster every single yr.

Despite the spurs last 2 season in which they where a epic failure in the playoffs, they really didn't change much despite the core getting older, the heat added 1 key piece in ray allan, pacers added West, the griz added bayless..

Obviously after our Playoff exit I felt like whole sale changes were needed, but winning 54 games is definitely a team on the right track, some felt we over achieved, some felt we under achieved.

I'm just not 100% sure revamping this roster will advance us further..this up incoming season is really the last season for our core guys, there basically expiring (movable) contracts next off season..

fishmike @ 6/18/2013 9:39 AM
easy answer is you cant have any stability when you dont use the draft. We dont draft guys and develop them. So the roster is constantly turning over. Knicks only use consultants. They have 6 months to be great or they get shipped out or are already so old they only have 6 months of hoops in them.
Knixkik @ 6/18/2013 9:49 AM
I think the idea this year is to stand pat and let the team chemistry improve unless the perfect deal comes along. We expect Melo, Chandler, Felton, Shumpert, all starters last year to remain starters. Hopefully we can add a good drafted player who can contribute and develop, and another couple glue guys to fill holes. Other than that, we should improve from added chemistry alone.
SupremeCommander @ 6/18/2013 9:49 AM
I agree with fish and I agree with 1248... I wish the team would draft and develop and I wish the team would be strategic with its signings. The Pacers made it to the ECF with a 7 man rotation. The Spurs are probably winning the Finals with an incredibly deep roster, but they are more exception than rule. So what I am suggesting is you heavily lean on the top 7 or 8, and use the rest of the roster to develop players. I don't see the point in signing Camby to longer deal and playing him a total of 11 minutes and 37 seconds
knicks1248 @ 6/18/2013 10:20 AM
whats likely to happen, we draft a a solid player (maybe 2 if we can pick up a 2nnd rounder) then package him in trade with either tyson or amare before the 2015 trading deadline.

If Amare and Tyson have solid seasons, then your looking at re-signing them in 2015, especially if we make it to the NBA finals, or even the ECF.

2 guys I'm looking at, K.Love and Rubio..I think either one of them can play well with Melo and Shump ( who are the only locks on the roster)

Nalod @ 6/18/2013 10:35 AM

Spurs had some failures the last 16 years. Fans in NY would have called for changes in coaching and players.

Sitting back knick fans see the benefits of continuity. few coachs make it 4 years.

Look at the tenure of each team. I think if Rivers leaves Spoestra and Pop might be the longest in place? Thibs is climbing up the tenure ladder.

Change rosters but not to suit the coach has been a problem for us.

Re-sign Amare? You must be high. And drunk.

No, but if he's injury free and very productive and efficient, the temptation will be there

Other teams haven't caught on to what we're doing..soon they'll be following our footsteps.

The fact that you can type while high and drunk, and spin around that fast in your chair at the same time is amazing.

Pop and Duncan have been together longer than most marriages. NYC has not that type of patience. Comparing us to SanTone or OKC models is a bit unrealistic. How many coaches did Ewing play for?

I've said this years ago.....Until there's a cultural change with the Knicks....We will continue to repeat history.

If the culture of NYC is fast pace, no patients, etc....than thats how the team will be built, with the fans and the media driving this non patient route.

NYC can't afford to sit back and not have a product on the floor that cant compete. Winning a championship is not the #1 priority for Dollan. It's building wealth and keeping the stakeholders financially happy. If we decide to win with this strategy, then good. But since thats not the main goal from top down, be prepared to get back on the same yearly roller coaster.

Personally, I think Dolan's priority is to make mediocre, old, and injured players wealthy. But that's just me.

IronWillGiroud @ 6/18/2013 1:37 PM
you can't draft in new york, we're too good for that,

this is the better way to do it because one day, in the next 40 years, you will get really lucky and maybe reach the conference finals,

CashMoney @ 6/18/2013 1:46 PM
Well we have 7 players that are 100% coming back in Felton, Melo, Shump, Chandler, STAT, Camby, Novak. Also, KMART, Prigs, Cope and JR may be coming back as well.

If we bring those guys back that's 11 players that are playing next season who were here this past season. However, regardless of what Grunwald has stated about not making any major moves I can't see us going into next season with pretty much the same team unless the organization is content with repeating this past season.

Bonn1997 wrote:Is this the problem or just a symptom of the problem?

it's a symptom. the underlying cause is there are certain players that are impossible to build around so roster flux is the status quo, not stability.

on a similar note, that stalwart monte ellis will be looking to join his 3rd team in 9 seasons.

And of course everyone wants to play in NYC right? Well in his case he wants to play in Memphis, I believe that's where he's from.
