judging from this years playoffs/finals i want to say role players won most of the games..Not only that, but the 3 ball is the way to go
Wade and bosh did not play like super stars except for a couple of games in the entire playoffs, So the BIG 3 turn out to be the BIG 1 1/2...Bosh was scoreless in game 7, and just like mike millers 7 3's in last yrs finals game clincher, shane battiers 6 3's in game 7, ray allens monster 3 in game 6 prove to be the deciding factor..
The spurs Green and Neal were non factors in game 6 and 7 in the finals, but were big in there wins. Ginobli (who i considered to be a role player) was brutal in game 6 and 7.
At the end of the day the playoffs comes down to One star, role players, and coaching..
Im thinking about the last few championships and the deciding factor was a role player

2011/bera/terry/kidd..combine for 10 3 pointers
which is why I'm still scratching my head at woodsons decision to leave cope and novak on the bench..
if it was up to me, 80% of my roster would and should be able to hit a 3 pointer
Role players have a major effect in the finals, but you dont get there without stars.
Say what you will but LeBron carried that team to the finals all year, and trust his roleplayers during the playoffs especially in the finals.
But you can't over-rely on role players like the Spurs did.
Green gave them nothing in games 6 and 7....really the whole benched was a no-show.
You just have to have a good mix.
Defensive minded players who can hit the 3 are priceless when used accordingly.
Wade stepped up the last few games...Can't ignore that..The thing is you can shut down role players...If a star has it going, he can't be stopped...Green got shut down..I think the emergence of Wade got the other role players good open looks...
Magic made an important point that I never noticed before...Role players don't usually play well on the road...Stars have to win it on the road...Green's explosion was at home...Battier's explosion was at home..Stevenson played better in Indiana..
Also, the team with the stars got to the finals and ultimately won...Spurs had 3 stars as well..

Chris Anderson would be an excellent off-season signing.
Always better to get more star players if you can.
Role players come into play in the playoffs because once everyone has star players, whoever wins can be determined by how a role-player plays on any particular night. But role players are very easy to replace.

Plugging in these points to the knicks situation..... how do we get better?
Our star is a small fwd that is a natural scorer...we have all of our money tired up into two big men that are both injury prone and one dimensional. There lies our problem. Thus is why we need to choose and why Chandler seemsto be the of man out

Having Lebron James is such a huge advantage its almost insurmountable.The guy is a near triple Double and 25-30 points every night.Then on top of that he can guard whoever your best player is 1 - 4 on the floor.The only way to get an advantage against the HEAT is to have a big time post scorer and rebounder. Yes the Knicks went and spent on a Center but didnt get a player that could do damage against Miami

The heat made the proper adjustments on green just like they did with NOVAK last yr.
Unfortunately for the spurs, pop was out coached the last 2 games.
Spolestra also made nice adjustments on paul Geoerge who was horrible in game 7 of the ECF.
thats why IMO it's so important to have a solid role players and a coach who makes the proper adjustments..

Pop made some huge mistakes...I wouldn't call it "out coached"..The Heat were the better team...Ginobili won a huge game for the Spurs...Novak was never a factor to make any adjustments on...But you still ignoring the team with the 3 stars won...They needed three stars to get them there...
I think Spoelstra made me a believer this season. He did a very nice job later on in this season. I think playoffs are where coaching really matters and Spoelstra went blow for blow agains Pop and won. It was like watching a chess game the preparation for which started in game 1 of regular season. In the end it was great playoff series to watch. What people don't understand is that you don't "turn it up in the playoffs, and magically start winning games". You need to have a vision and build your team towards it.
I thought the Heat were the better team but should have lost the series...Pop made a few mistakes that cost them...Pop also had them in the series and in a position to win...The Heat was also capable of turning up their defensive play which they did from time to time in the playoffs...Overall a good series despite so many one sided games...
The knicks hands to upgrade the talent......we played with kidd, white, .ovak, brewer at one point, old sheed and Kt, a limited Priggy, a immature jr smith, over achiever in felton, and two cry babies in Tyson and melo..add A'mare knees and sumps knee.....we were lucky thus year.....next year we need talent that will play real minutes fur us to be successful.
Right off the bat we have 5 vacant slots from sheed, kt, Kidd, Richardson and barron. 4 free agents in smith, cope priggy and KMart that aren't a lock to return.....A'mare knees.....useless Novak and white....we have Alot of holes to fill.

Why all of a sudden NOVAK is useless, no one was saying that last off season when the knicks were in court fighting for his BIRD rights..
The Heat had no real injuries to any of it's key guys, and that was for the entire season. As a matter of fact they have been relatively healthy since bringing that roster together.
The reason we were able to have a really good season was because of our ROLE players, the same ones we abandon in the playoffs..
Role players feed off of stars. Most role players don't show up on the road. You need both good star power and role players.

wade's injuries are prohibiting from playing like a star.. Chris bosh was never a superstar, just an overpaid allstar, like carmelo.. so first we need to get a Superstar and then surround him with good, high level talent. Or get as many high level talent guys as we can, don't have to be star players and build a good team, either way, we have a lot of missing necessary pieces..

melo is a super star in most peoples eyes, I don't think he is, but certainly has the potential.
