bad pick. doesn't fill a need..PG or C. Not a high ceiling player.. What did we accomplish here?
WRONG!!! SG was a need. We need a guy that can actually catch and shoot. People are overlooking the strength of adding solid all around players like this to the team. If we had a guy like him this post season we might have advanced. We needed someone who could come off screens and knock down a shot. He can play within a team concept, which is very important for this team. Just look at how much difference it made when Shump was able to knock down shots off the pass. Imagine having someone who can do that consistently? Also most of these kids get training after NCAA and tend to sharpen up their skills. We don't know what he looked like in workouts with the Knicks. Some guys are better off in the NBA game than they looked in college and that may be the case here.
i dont have a problem with the pick but i dont expect a better seaosn from the Knicks. We are still a playoff team but the best we can hope for is a 2nd round series is all goes well. Miami is obviously the best then the bulls and pacers will be even better with their top guys coming back. Now teh nets have gotten better

nixluva this is a SG that shot 41 and 43 % on a really good team. He doesnt handle the ball well is not a great rebounder--this is a D league pick up. Hes nothing special. Will he have moments yes. Is he a pure role player. Yes I can see why people are lazeferre on this pick its a bit of a dud. We couldve picked up a guy like Felix maybe after the draft and there is no difference. Actually Felix can rebound.
i agree with nixluva...hes a decent shooter and playmaker but not a gamechanger...but at #24 no one is (expected to be)

Can't call this pick a dud if you believe he can be a rotation player. The kid has a good head on his shoulders and can defend. He's a good three point shooter off the catch and shoot. These are all needs. The main thing si that it's impossible to tell. I didn't think Ariza or Field would amount to much and they're legitimate NBA players. I think Hardaway has more going for him than those guy shad coming in, aside from Ariza's youth.

Like Briggs said I don't understand how 43% is considered good shooting. That is overall shooting not just three point shooting. Should have taken Crabbe, or Glenn Rice jr.

I think you are answering your own question. Ariza and Fields were second round picks not first round. Oh well hope he proves me wrong and becomes a great player.

As long as he can shoot a 3, will always be a great pick for you. We have Shump and probably Jr at that position. At PG we have Felt on as our only legit player. Prigs actually needs to play with felt on because he can't drive.
And of course if only we would have played copeland or had this kid we would have destroyed the pacers who stymied all the 3 point shooters on miami.

Not really happy with this pick. I think the Knicks expect JR Smith to leave so we need to fill the SG hole. They wanted a shooter but Hardaway hasn't displayed that in his play at Michigan.
He shot 36% last year from 3 pt. last year. Not terrible but certainly not great considering the college line is a few feet closer than the NBA. However he hit 19 of 25 in the 3 pt drill at the pre-draft combine. So maybe this is why we drafted him? But why didn't he do anything close to that in games for Michigan? I hope this isn't another Anthony Roberson demo where he hit some shots in practice; we signed him; and then he was a Big Bust.

He plays good D and he can hit the catch and shoot 3 better than most.
He shot 43 and 42% his two years. He wasnt great at any particular skill--good athlete. Only weighs 200 pounds. Its a fair pick we didnt go for it here thats for sure. I think you find a guy like Tim Hardaway in the D league thats my opinion. we let all of the PGs and bigs go for someone who really could be found in the D league.
Agreed. Hard not to feel disappointed here a little bit. Still some good players left on the board -- Muscala, Erick Green, Jamelle Hagins, Pierre Jackson -- what's up Grunwald, you gonna do anything to get us another player here or what?

Ok, I'll throw in Wilson Chandler as well, who was a tweener who could barely dribble when he came in. I can't see what goes on in these pre-draft workouts, but I trust what Grunwald and their braintrust sees.
Wow... what happened to Jamaal Franklin.
You can't just go off the college numbers. You have to also be able to project at the next level. I think Jr. has actually underachieved up to this point. He's got better athletic ability than people give him credit for. 38" vert isn't a guy who has no athletic ability. 3.25 sprint and 16 reps on the bench and you can see he has good speed and strength. This guy was very good in transition, which gets overlooked. Getting inside the numbers you would see that he made 44% of his catch and shoot jumpers. What brought his shooting % down was his pull up jumper with was weak at only 31% but he shot better on his pull up jumpers the year before, so sometimes it's hard to predict based on these numbers.
My prediction is that Jr. will improve his shooting with more work, higher usage rate and he'll end up being a very solid SG/SF for this team. He's not a spectacular pick, but I think he'll be very useful and ready to contribute.
I don't understand how some people consider him a good shooter when he shot 37% and 28% from 3 the last two seasons. And, way more concerning, he shot 69% and 71% from the FT line. How can a shooter be so terrible on FT?
