In this NBA, speedy/scoring PGs are key to breaking down a good defences.
The Knicks D broke down a lot dealing with that kind of PG threat, especially with Kidd and Prigioni, and even Felton proving themselves unable to curb penetration.
Woodson prioritizes defence over offence.
He believes that a mix Carmelo, Tyson P/R, and dump off shooters score enough to win games, if a defense produces ample turnovers.
The Knicks plan on featuring Shumpert at PG throughout Summer League, and they did not draft a PG.
Does this mean they are grooming Shumpert to combat the likes of Rose, Wall, Irving, Lillard, Curry, Williams, Westbrook, Paul, Rondo, Lawson, Parker, (James)?
Its a bold defensive move; grooming Shumpert into disrupting opposing teams' offensive engine.

I think shumpert is a SG who can play PG on a part time basis. Few players with his profile can become full time pure PGs. I think Knicks should look into what it will take to get Vasquez from NO pelicans seeing how they now have Holiday. They obviously like copeland and are loaded at guard so maybe we can start with that.
God I hope not. He can play there in a pinch for short bursts, like 10 minutes/game, but anything more than that would be terrible. He has almost no court vision to speak of and was a mess there when MDA started him at point his rookie season.
His agent was pretty emphatic about him not wanting to play the small forward spot anymore. That he should be playing the 2 spot. I think Shump actually could learn to be a really good point guard. Remembered seeing him play it quite a bit in College.
I think Shump and Felton is a perfect combo. Shump is only getting better. Both can switch between PG and SG.
Shump's defense on PG / SG has top 5 potential in the NBA. And he's only getting better....Remember, he's still a young guy....

I don't feel you can indict a rookie's inability to adjust MDA's PG-centric speedball offense.

I'd rather Shump focus on being the best 2 guard he can be. I don't mind him playing spot minutes at PG but I'd rather he worked on his shot off the dribble, kept working on his handle, finishing around the rim, and his off the ball D.
