Fascinating. I thought that Gallo was a lesser version of Bargnani. We haven't seen a heck of a lot of him lately (due to injury) I remember he used to kick our butts. (will need to dig up AB's history vs the Knicks to see if I'm just confused)
A few years later and both of them are injury prone (Bargs even more so), both coming off surgery. Bargnani's elbow injury apparently has had everyone forget what he contributed just a couple of seasons ago. We've seen what Gallo can do during a hot streak, but he always gets hurt and his numbers come down to earth after his return. But he does show a pretty compelling upward line in terms of his statistical contribution.
I think Gallo is a borderline all-star capable player who wants to be the man. Bargnani doesn't seem to be as fired up or driven to be the man. His make up may have him pegged as a more ideal #2 or #3 scorer on a team.
i have a question about the PPP (points per possession) stat. so if a player is the best player, he will get more shooting opportunities per possession. simply because they will call his play the most. is this stat a measurement of success or a measurement of "this-raptors-team-is-so-bad-so-bargnani-just-keep-shooting"?

Scoring efficiency stats are pretty stable regardless of the role the player has on the team. There is a slight inverse relationship between shot attempts and efficiency (the more shots, the lower the efficiency) but it's quite small.

I look forward to how AB can help to increase the efficiency of this offense. We have played too many playoff games with a team that is devoid of enough scoring to make defenses pay for crowding Melo. Also it would be nice to have some real BB plays as opposed to going ISO so much in the playoffs. I think we can get AB to buy into the defensive culture we have. He may never be great but if we can get him to be decent in a team concept that will be enough.

I wonder if they'll try to get AB into some kind of workout regimen. You would think they'd want to make sure he comes into the season in top shape after his past injury issues. Nothing like being in the best shape of your life to start a new era with a new team.

he is not going to arrive in "great shape" he will arrive in "melo shape" which is merely sufficient but not excellent.
his TS% is ridiculously low. his assist numbers are as bad as stoudemire's and carmelo's. and the coup de grace is that his usage/ast ratio is an appallingly awful and melo-esque 3.44:1.

For top tier / superstar tier players this is might be true. However, if you take the typical role player and ask them to actually carry a team offensively or perhaps function as a 2nd option offensively their efficiency will decrease noticeably. This is why I dislike comparing efficiency stats of role players to those of 1st and 2nd option players.
For example, Harden's eFG% and TS% on Hou this past season is substantially lower than it was as a role player on OKC. His PER was roughly the same due to increased usage which allowed increased counting stats (steals, assists, blocks and scoring). Harden is not even the typical role player, he is a stud and his efficiency STILL took a noticeable hit.

bargs is quality and we bought low on him, he will have a strong season for us,
i can see him becoming my favorite knicks player
