Keith bogans makes 5 Mil a yr now with nets sign and trade
Hedo Turkoglu will make 12 Million this yr
Ben gordon will make 13.2 Mil
Landry Field 6.25 Mil
Charlie Villanueva 8.5 Mil
To be honest, for his production....we got a bargain
JR is great value. He is frustrating, but for those who don't think he is consistent enough for a 4-year deal, keep in mind he has excelled in the same role his entire career. From a year to year basis, he has actually been very consistent because we know what he will bring, the good and the bad.
Sure, everyone already knows that some players have worse contracts
We got JR on a very favorable contract. It was the most we could offer and he accepted it. With JR, and now Metta WP, and hopeefully KMart, we have a chance to go to the finals.

In addition to KMart I hope the Knicks keep Murry and maybe bring Barron back. Also, someone else should slip through the cracks and have to sign a vet mini. Alan Anderson was supposed to be going to the Nets before they signed AK. He would be a great addition.
It wasn't so much about the annual salary but the length of the deal. Most players with JR's numbers (during the regular season) getting this type of deal wouldn't bother me. I am concerned about his approach to the game now that he has his money. Not unfair to wonder considering his history. Hope he proves all the doubters wrong. I want him to succeed.
JR is a steal for what the Knicks are paying him.
Knicks now have JR, Felton, Shumpert, & Artest on very favorable contracts.
Teams with cap space and no foundation will have a hard time prying Melo away from us after moves like these.

Good point about keeping Melo satisfied and staying here. Melo is friends with and likes JR. Also now he is surrounded by top defensive players - Tyson, Metta, Shump which balances Melo 's tremendous offensive skills.
my only issue is giving him 4 years. 2 years would have been fine
I think JR is much more talented than
Kyle Korver
Reddick
Kevin Martin
who all make more money than him
It is JR's off the court issues, BB IQ, willingness to take bad shots, mental approach, and poor playoffs performance that cost him the money
Even OJ Mayo makes 8m a year and I think JR can out play him, especially on DEF
I just can NOT complain about what he doesn't do for the amount of money he will make and the way he took less to stay in NYK for 2 straight years
Hope he turns it around and will not repeat the same mistake this year in the play offs
He improved GREATLY LAST SEASON in ALL AREA'S of his game and if it wasn't for his poor play offs performance, we would not be even having this conversation or would he still be a Knick
At his contract, he will have the chance to continue to improve, make up for his mistakes, and still be an asset/value for us to keep or possibly trade in the future
At least we know we have a guy that we cant count on for half the money of some of the worst NBA contracts.Mmmmm warm and fuzzy feeling

wow this is like saying,
well the big one you were with the other night is not so bad because there are much more obese women in the world

The big one doesn't win sixth man of the year and isn't the second option on a 54 win team.

Obviously, you've never been out with Fishmike.

hahahaha... im due to set these youngins straight.
JRs contract is fine. Remind me of the value next time he shoots 30% for an entire playoffs

so, being injured is NO LONGER an excuse. I see how this works.
JR's a risk, for sure. He had by far his best year last season -- in terms of maturity and playing smart ball -- but still was unreliable. That said, he's one of the top 10 athletes in the game, imo. He does things that make me pick up the dvr remote more than any other knick, that's for sure.
I think the upside is worth the risk. He could be an all star, and having one at a bench player's salary gives a team all sorts of flexibility. He also could implode. In which case, it's a big but not huge hole in our salary cap.
I'd do the signing, for sure. I would have preferred 2 or 3 years to 4, but who knows if that was available.

UK Somber rule #1: Injury excuse only applies to players not on the Knicks.

Funny and depressing at the same time due to the fact it's true. People are so desperate to blast JR that they are desperately ignoring the fact he was playing with a chipped patella tendon AND torn meniscus- they WANT to believe it was due to partying (based on a bitter ex girlfriends abusive tweet!)- I wonder what that's about.
