Do u really believe Shumpert is an All Star level talent? If u dont whats the big deal. Im not saying trade him for Jared Dudley like that horrible trade but if the Knicks can get back a borderline All Star or a young player with equal talent at PG I would do it.
he may be more important than an all star. If his ceiling is to become an elite NBA defender but only gives you 12ppg 6rebs 4assists he will never make that game, and he will be twice as valuable as half the donkees who doo

I would agree...but in this two year window, how much better is Shump compared to Tim Hardaway jr?

In the win now set, how much better is Dantay Jones?

Still you only trade Shump if you improve somewhere else. Knicks have Shump position covered. Gotta be realistic. I personally love everything about Shump, but his talent is not really game changing changing....he competes but knicks need more than sometime who plays hard. Knicks need production. At this point id rather start jr smith. Sign raja bell in the meantime and have Tim Hardaway jr the third guard.

Just to be really clear. You only trade Shump if you get a big upgrade somewhere else

Such a headache rooting for this team.

And fishmike is right. BTW, I am trying to figure out how people consider to be SAS a fool. He is right many more times than wrong, from everything I hear from him and from what does happen.

Were all of you calling him fools after LeBron and Bosh signed with Miami?

Let's be real here guys Shumpert had a rookie year and very little of year two, just getting his feet wet after surgery. This coming year is going to reveal a lot about Shump. I'm expecting a big year if Woody will allow it. Only thing that I feel will hold Shump back I feel is the NYK organization. Woody has a thing for JR and that might be enough for a player to hit his stride and become a better player.

EnySpree @ 7/17/2013 10:03 AM
Vmart...

Its true Shump needs to prove what he can do this year.....but in the right deal he can go because i believe Hardaway jr will be better than Shump. If the knicks staff believe that too then Shump should go. Knicks will be mite than ok at the sitting guard spot without him.

Question is, who is available? Would guys do a Tyson and Shump deal for someone? If rondo is available for that, you do it...if Aldridge is available you do it.

Pipe dream but if these type of guys are available you move Shump no question.

Nalod @ 7/17/2013 10:46 AM
If Shump was not about playing a few games, which is more about the mini camp we run than the games, then would he be deemed a dude who don't want to work on his game? IF so, doesn't that lower his status and since it would be no secret, his trade value?

Shump now a diva?

It would have to be an absolute right deal for me trade Shump.

I whole heartedly agree with that. An elite defender..Shump isn't far off and I can easily see him putting up those number. I project the same stats except I was thinking 15pts and add 2steals to your stat line

yeah, but this is regarding trades because he has a good relationship with today's Players. Saying he has Dolans ear, or that Dolan would even say such a thing to him if far fetched.

Obviously reporters rely on sources. It's a bit unrealistic to think SAS or any reporter held a private meeting with Dolan.

Right exactly.

Hey let's trade Shumpert for Monta Ellis(perfect example of a Knicks trade) Monta is a volume shooting PG. Would look great next to Melo, spread the floor blah blah blah. Hey at least it's not 40yr old Nash this time right?

I was saying All Star as in elite starter not as in Actual All Stars.Andre Iguodala has only made 1 All Star Team in 9 Seasons but I consider him that level of talent. U think Shumpert will ever be as good as that because I don't.I see a middle of the road starter.Very valuable for the money he makes now but when u start talking extension at 7 million Im not so sure

EnySpree wrote:Any idea why Shumpert pulled out of summer league?

Here's a theory. He looked like any other prospect out there. He actually had a horrible game missing all his shots from the field. He liked ok. Nothing special. After 2 years regardless if injuryhe should look more fluid in summer league. Maybe he would play better with better players. Still his play should stand out.

So what is Shump? Knicks need dude to give us at least 10-12 points per game since jr will be coming of injury. If he's just going to be as good as raja bell at 36 years old, then the knicks should just sign raja and trade Shump to get an upgrade somewhere else.

Tim Hardaway jr upside is greater than Shump in my opinion. Hardaway looks like Cuttino Mobley to me.

The main reason why he didnt look good is because he isnt a PG For some reason the knciks keep trying to make shunpert a pg and thats not his game. He is a SG/SF who should drive to the hoop.

The reason he didn't look great is that he had a kids basketball camp on during the summer league teams training. He only joined the team for the last practice- hadn't really played basketball since the end of the season. Factor in him playing PG AND that he even said he was taking a more relaxed attitude to the Vegas game, and that's why he didn't look at his best.

Thats nice of him taking a relaxed attitude while kids are playing for their NBA careers. If Shump is as good as a lot of people think he is he should be blowing them off the court. If the Knicks are going to have a legitimate chance at winning Shumpert has to get a lot better and half assing it no matter how trivial the games might seem isnt going to get it done

RonRon @ 7/17/2013 2:47 PM
I love Iman and I think he will get much better as the knee injury set him back at least 2 years in terms of development
It also didn't help him that the lockout was during his rookie year so he was unable to come in training camp/summer league/and work with trainers on his game

He has HEART, WORK ETHIC, and DEFENSIVE INSTINCT's, qualities that will allow him to be in the league and NYK would greatly appreciate
Unfortunately, he is eligible for an extension on 2015 summer/2016, which is the same year that Amare/Chandler/Bargnani expire and we are likely going to retool with FA's
None of us can predict if Iman will be even better than Tony Allen, while an extension would likely start at least 4.5-8m, cutting our plans to sign 3 maxish type FA's

While we already have, 2 players that play the same position

JR
Tim Hardaway JR

2016 salary
==================

Felton 4.54m
JR 6.4m

Tim Hardway JR 1.3m
Pablo 2.2m
2015 1st round draft pick 1.2m

The contracts above would make up about 15m, leaving us about 45 to spend on 3 players
I know Felton and JR both have player option but if they bolt we would need to retool those positions as well
Pablo's 3rd year is a team option with partial guaranteed when he would be 39 years of age, which would likely to be cut

That is why I would have preferred the Knick's use the rest of the MLE to use on Tourre Murry and another player like Bobby Brown for 3 year deals, starting at about 850k with team options for a 3year deal, instead on MWP who would only make 200k more than the vet min as a 10year vet, his salary starts at 1.4m vs 1.6m

With JR possibly out in the start of the season
Iman will get the opportunity to be that #2 option and could raise his value significantly this year
Because of the 2015 FA class, we would be put in a tough position if a team offers us a nice package of picks, expirings, or young talent

so you think some team would be crazy enough to trade us a Superstar or near superstar for a guy who at the moment is a questionable starter? really?

I mean lets do this.. you are crazy about carmelo right? Ok, so if the Hawks call us and offer us Teague and fillers for carmelo, would you think that is a fair trade.. and let me remind you, at this point, teague is a better player than shumpert is, and carmelo isn't a superstar.. but I bet you would be insulted if Hawks fans were to make such a post..

There are very NBA calibur PGs to go around. Having a good pg is a real commodity. There are a thousand SFs and SGs to go around but not pg and center. Would you trade Shumpert for Avery Bradley and even George hill. NO
