Knicks · Plans for 2015 (page 1)

This might be a joke to some people here but I would think about

offering Tim Duncan, KG, and even AK47, 2m per year at a 2 year deal in 2015 summer, with 1m guaranteed as a player option, allowing them to retire, and keep 1m buyout so paying them 3m for one year of service

From the start, tell them they will have a spot on our coaching roster, as possibly HEAD COACH, assistant coach, development coach, or a scouting job in Europe, with high paying salaries for their positions *for AK47* One of them would be with the 2m Bi Annual Exemption and one could be from the 2.78m from room exemption or using the room exemption on another player and using cap space instead for 2m per year with 2nd year player option at 2m with 1m guaranteed

With Copeland/Byron Mullons or some stretch 4/5 as cost efficient options, possibly just going for just 1 of the above vets if we can convince them not to retire

Keeping Jeremy Tyler on the roster while having Duncan/KG mentor him
Possibly 2015 draft pick on a player that they can develop

Setting them up for future jobs as incentives while using the CBA rules to our favor

sign 4 players in the price range of

12m Kevin Love/Aldridge

12m Melo

8-10m Rudy Gay

7-8m Dragic/Monta Ellis

or

20m (LEBRON)

8-12m Rudy Gay/Melo

7-8m or less PF/C Asik/Amir Johnson or PG Dragic/Monta Ellis

keeping Tourre Murry on a friendly cap deal if he shows he can be a legit DEFENDER and a decent ball handler as a combo guard

RonRon @ 7/29/2013 7:32 AM
JR Smith
Iman Shumpert *2 year deal at about 4-4.5m* that is what Brandon Rush made, with player option's, in which we could pay him the season after

Tim Hardway JR
Felton *backup G on bench*
2015 1st round pick

next summer's mini MLE unless Bayless would take a 3 year deal, possibly even on 2 players on friendly contracts with TEAM options *possibly using it on 2 players like Tyler/Murry*

JR Smith
Iman
Rudy Gay
Lebron
PF/C (Duncan or KG as 10-20min nights on SOME nights, no back to backs, alternating if sign both, or keep them on the bench)

that could be a sick starting lineup on both offense and defense (with good RB ability, players with ability to steal, 3pt shooters, ball handler's, and all able to penetrate/finish of course with Lebron playing point/forward

Maybe stick Murry in there instead if he shows he can be a sufficient player and tenacious defender

Jmpasq @ 7/29/2013 7:32 AM
Why is Kevin Love or Aldridge playing for 12 million? Why is Melo playing for 12 million? None of that is happening

because those are the #'s we would be able to pay for to build a actual contending team, maybe the incentive of endorsements, and building a LEGIT team in NYK is enough

With Melo, we could give him a player option and give him a near MAX deal the year after since we would have his bird rights

yellowboy90 @ 7/29/2013 8:06 AM
Bring this up after 14 season because opinions on players will likely change.

Im weary of Giving Aldridge a Max Deal at 30 along side Melo at 31 that seems like a recipe for disaster.

For Shump to make 4-4.5 million per year that would mean Woody kill his value by not playing him and calling him out and dog housing him similar to what he did with Copeland. With that said Shump would pack his bags and leave anyways. Now if the Knicks allow him to prosper and become an integral part of the team and Shump becomes an 18 points per game player. He will command more money. I totally expect Shump to get mistreated this coming year, simply because he called out Woody's stale offense and scheme in playoffs.

If Hardaway or Toure Murray shows any bit of promise at all Shumpert will be traded by the Deadline

Yeah, I do NOT want to give Melo a max at the age of 31- the figure would be what, 20mil a season or more? You'd honestly be better letting him walk and attempting to sign a new player to a lower max contract.

Next offseason the main decision will be do we tank that year, to boost our 2015 rebuild. We could trade Tyson for picks. Means we'd finish with a much worse record, but that would also mean our first round pick would be better. Or since everone is re-signed for another year, do we just add a MMLE player and do the best we can. If we do well, we might be a more attractive destination for free agents, plus we wouldn't be wasting a year of Melo in his prime. Guess it depends how we do this season.

It would be around $25M or $26M.

Supposedly the Knicks told Melo he can build the team in 2015. Don't know if that's good or bad. I rather have the GM take care of that. All likelihood Melo will get a raise at $25mil+ and we will build around that again wih 40yr olds and Nbdl players for league min

If Melo makes 25 million we might as well start 2020 cap room threads. I will be disgusted with him. Lebron is the only plsyer worth that money, maybe Durant

gunsnewing @ 7/29/2013 9:12 PM
We will find out what Melo is made of in 2015. He struck out the first time taking $20mil and gutting the team of every asset. Can't really blame him. He might not have the sufficient IQ to do the math but neither did the Knicks apparently giving Amare $20mil uninsured and Tyson $14mil. The whole thing is CLUMSY
EnySpree @ 7/29/2013 9:32 PM
I'm ok with Melo getting his market value....it's not his fault Amare is made of paper.

Big picture....that would be Mr Love. I think that dude is ours for the taking. He's got to show he can be healthy at this point though.

It's not about Melo....it's about the Knicks. If the Knicks choose Love and he signs, it doesn't matter if Melo stays or not....it's a matter if Melo fits with the new plan...

I saw it on hoopshype, but can't find the link right now. Its no different from how things are now. Melo is being sold on the idea that the Knicks will be a clean slate in 2015 and will start with him. He will have the opportunity to work with the front office on putting together a new core and will be able to recruit in the meantime.

gunsnewing @ 7/30/2013 1:22 PM
Hopefully just a rumor but I don't see why anyone would make that up. That requires some actually incite and thought unlike Stephen a just throwing it out there that he will be a laker. If anything he will team up with Chris Paul and Blake. The 3 of them are good friends. Melo lives in LA. Joining Kobe is just stupid. Who wants to cater to a 40yr old. Same reason why Lebron wouldn't join the lakers

How would he team up with CP3 and Blake? And i disagree, a clean slate with Melo trying to recruit talent is a good thing. You need someone to endorse the Knicks brand and be the face of the franchise other than Dolan. You also need roster stability as far as the franchise players are concerned. Otherwise its hard to attract talent.
