Knicks · If Knicks get Udirih--line up to start season with JR down (page 1)
C Chandler
F Bargani
F Anthony
G Shumpert
G Felton
C/F Amare
C/F Martin
F Ron Artest
G Udirih
G Prigioni
I would give Hardaway ample opportunity to beat out anyone including Artest Shumpert Smith Udirih Prigioni for PT if he can do it
The rest
JR Smith ir
Jeremy Tyler C
C J leslie--D league F
Terrance Jennings?????PF
Id like to mix and match Bargani with Martin and Amare--shifting him to 5 at times as well. We have better depth than last year especially if we get Udirih and I like that we have some younger legs
so far, teams that need decent back ups are: Boston, GSW, Dallas, Memphis, New Orleans, Philly. BTW, all of these teams except for Dallas have about $2.6 mill left from their MLE to sign players
I think very highly of Udrih (and most left handed PGs since i was one myself). I think he could even start over ray...but def Prigs
TJHardaway has to show me he can play defense first. he got killed vs scrubs in the summer league
im dreading the thought of bargs playing major mins

I'll take it with a grain of salt but Berman's saying we're emerging as the favorites to land Udrih, announcement could come as early as today:

Gotta love when you wake up in the middle of the night to take a piss, log on quick and get some great news like this! lol. Straight up coup if we can get this guy man. Fingers and toes crossed..
Now that I heard we worked out DJ White, he'd be the extra forward I'd like to see us add. Wouldn't mind that at all..
Last 2 spots:
Beno Udrih
DJ White

If Bargs can't have a good season in a contract year with Felton/Pablo/Udrih feeding him while having Melo attracting all the attention of the defense, then he shouldn't even be in the league. I think alot of you are in for a surprise this year.
Anyway, if they sign Beno fine.... but he's the back up/Spot starter but not the starting 2.
I love a good trade and there is a potential trade here in my opinion but whatever yo
Knicks have too much talent to play these games

No need to keep a third shooting guard only to play him at the 3.... the Knicks also have enough talent to cover the 3...Anyway, if they sign Beno fine.... but he's the back up/Spot starter but not the starting 2.

I kind of agree that Shump should be the starting 2 but if that's what it takes to sign Udrih (a guaranteed starting role at SG), I think you give him that. I want him bad enough to offer a concession like that. We really might need to offer something another team won't (Spurs are supposedly interested but I don't think they will offer a starting role). Really doesn't matter who starts when you get right down to it -- PT in general (total minutes logged--Beno should get his fair share at both guard spots, esp. if JR's not ready right away) and finding the right combinations for stretches at a time are the most important issues.
Worst case scenario coming up here -- if things ever went south with Beno AND Bobby Brown, a pretty damn good 3rd option out there would be Lester Hudson. Just saw that we worked him out recently...Sporadic opportunities in the NBA so far coupled with some uneven stats but I believe he's a solid player. Solid combo guard -- he's definitely a scorer first but I think he's got enough ability to swing over and run some point...Kinda reminds me of Bobby Jackson, maybe a little bigger -- I think he could be that type of sparkplug/ignitor for a team...Can play some defense as well -- good, quick hands...Regardless of who we add for backcourt depth -- Udrih, Bobby Brown, Lester Hudson, even Toure Murry -- it's nice knowing it'll be a quality addition and not some stiff.

Haven't seen much of Lester Hudson but I think Darius Morris should be on the list, quite surprised there haven't been much interest in the league with Morris's combination of size/athleticism and potential
I think we should have 4 PG's/combo guards because Felton/Pablo are not reliable on defense to stay in front of opponents PG's, even Udrih is under average at that department
For those reasons, I think we have to choose 1 spot between
Udrih
Bobby Brown
AJ Price
and 1 spot for a more defensive combo guard
Murry/Morris
Assuming CJ Leslie/Tyler, my opinion, only one of them should, we would have only 3 spot though
I really don't think we should use a roster spot for CJ Leslie if we intend to keep Tyler
I think Tyler is a project that is a nice low risk high reward player that might be able to contribute in about half a year if he works hard to refine his skills and work on his weakness's
And we would still need to add another legit C or solid defensive PF/C
We need at least 1 G and 1 PF/C (preferably a legit Center with size like Haddadi)
If we only use 1 spot for a G, I would not mind adding a F like James Johnson for his defensive abilities or even
Stephen Jackson
Shawnee Williams on a non guaranteed contract
That is why I was not thrilled about picking up Tim Hardway JR with the draft pick, would have preferred a more natural SF or any other position, possibly even trading down for 2 picks
I am very surprised that "the right handed James Harden" in Dwayne Davis, 6'5" 225 as a combo guard with good size didn't stay with a NBA team and instead opted to sign with a European team instead
He has very high potential with his handle and ability to penetrate

I think your list is a bit off on which teams have a need for a PG. At this point I would assume that Beno is looking for a team that he could make some noise on for next year's contract - mostly likely this year will be a 1-year deal.
Boston: Rondo, Avery.
Dallas: Too many PGs on this team, Devin Harris, Jose Calderon, Shane Larkin.
Philly: got a million PGs and young guys that need playing time. Would he go there to play on what will be a crappy team with Thaddeous, Turner, Hawes, JRichardson?
New Orleans: Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans. Lots of small SGs
GSW: Backup to Stephen Curry.
Memphis: I literally think they have like 16 guys on their roster. Would play behind Mike Conley

Nice...Quality addition.
C Tyson
F Melo
F Bargs
G Shump
G Prigs or Beno
C Kmart/Tyler
F Stoud/?? - Last roster spot (I'd take T.Jennings)
F World Peach/Leslie
G JR Smith/T.Hardaway Jr
G Felton/Brigs or Breno
If you start Priggy and Felton, what do you need Felton for? To shoot? OK so put Shump, JR Smith or Hardaway in....yeah I understand you like to have more than one play maker...that's fine but not when you have 3 capable natural shooting guards on the roster. If they wanna start two point guards then they have to trade someone...The Knicks need the help in the front court.
I'm trade crazy, but Tyson, Felton and Shump could bring us a good player....who? I dunno, but that package can get us something good.

would take a 3rd team to facilitate but I think Pau Gasol is an all round C that fits financially and as a team
a LEGIT 7foot plus as a #2 option, might even have to add a future 2018 pick, while freeing Felton and Iman's 2015 FA commitments and could be a salary dump for tax purposes for next summer
free's up some roster spots too but would be a gamble
Udrih/Pablo/ Murry/Brown/Darius Morris???
JR/Tim Hardway JR
Melo/Artest
AB/Artest/STAT
Gasol/Martin/Tyler
Like Utah for their expirings that they got from GS and would take back Brandon Rush to replace Iman's defense as a G/F

Perhaps Woody will do it less this year. I think it's a bit of a security blanket for him right now since it worked so well last year. I mean the results are undeniable when you look at the production with the 2 PG's vs just one. Woody will have a chance to play around with some options. I actually think he's got a tough job trying to figure out how he wants to play this. He's got so many more options now.
This is kind of the result of a flawed roster where so many of our players are limited in what they do well. So since Felton isn't a great court vision PG, you add a PG next to him to augment that, but still get the things Felton does well at the same time. For the longest time we have been trying to get JR and Shump to drive more, but Felton doesn't mind driving. So it's just a weird thing. They played Shump at the 3 and it actually was successful. Basically the best part of his offensive game was the 3 and so that role fit him pretty nicely. He's a strong kid and could defend most 3's. The Knicks are just a weird team when you go by traditional positions. I mean Tyson can't post up despite being a 7'er. Almost everywhere you look we have players that can be productive but not in a traditional role. So having Prigs and Beno allows a lot of that to work.

I can dig it....
Still that would mean the Knicks need a trade. You can start Priggy and Felton and have Beno off the bench...that's cool. But JR, Shump and Hardaway need to play....in this scenario only 1 can play...that means at least one guy needs to go.
Trade doesn't have to be that big, but it might need to be if it could snag nice talent in return to a position of need.
