There is so much versatility on this team for the start of the season:
Anthony: PF, Sf
Stat: PF, C
Martin: PF, C, SF
Metta: Sf, PF, SG
Shump: SG, SF, PG
Felton: PG, SG
Beno: PG, SG
Bargs: PF, C
Loads of options!
Be creative with your first and 2nd units.
My submission:
1st Unit:
C. Chandler
Pf: Bargs
Sf: Anthony
Sg: JR
Pg: Felton
2nd Unit:
C. Martin
PF. Stat
SF. Metta
SG. Shump
PG. Prigs
Bench Rotation:
Beno pg/sg, Tyler C/Pf, Hardaway SG/Sf
I agree. I love the versatility
Im sorry but AB has to earn my trust until then hes on the bench
Shump starts over JR. Again i just dont trust JR after knee surgery and a big payday
Beno over prigs. Im relegating prigs back to 3rd string
I love artests toughness and he doesnt need to play 30mins. Id start him at 3 with melo at the 4.
Kmart as a backup center is scary. But im sure hell get time there. I hope we pick up a huge big man like petro
Why are so many on this board so down on Prigs??
He pressures the ball, initiates flow and ball distribution, has no major injury history and hits shots if left open.

I don't think there's any way in HELL AB comes off the bench. He's too skilled and young to come off the bench. I thought the whole idea was to have him play major minutes with Melo to open up the floor so teams can't just focus on Melo.

i get that AB is offensively skilled. but i just remember him being SO bad defensively and on the boards. so being that woody is a defensive coach..and also that he had success with melo at the 4, i think bargs comes off the bench
I agree with Nixluva, You cannot reliably feature Amare and Bargs on the floor together and maintain a serious defence. Either Amare or Bargs is going to start. Bargs fits much better off Mello, thats why starting Bargs is a #FaitAccompli
Redundancy Alert
Read my lips. Amare is toast. Finished. Nice try.
Done.
MisterEarl, I am ready to make a friendly wager that Amare doubles Rasheed's minutes from last year.
How about that practice? The projected starters will have a hard time beating the bench... the games will be a piece of cake lol

When the players are awarded space they need to excel at what they do best they become more efficient and an offensive juggernaut.
Bargs would give Carmello room to operate and keep defences honest. When you close off on those 2 you leave Chandler/Felton open for the alley-oop and Pick and Roll.
They space the floor very well, allowing Felton and JR to drive on the backet until the cows come home.
Ps. Felton was solid from the outside until he injured his hand, and was then erratic for the rest of the season, we should expect him to be a bit more solid from outside this year.

colorful - as you are an esteemed member of this digital collective, I hereby accept your wager and offer a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts as my compensation to you should your projection of Amare's total minutes played exceed Sheed's.
Do not be shocked if Amare shuts it down during training camp.
MisterEarl, as a Sr. statesman of the board, should Amare not double Sheeds minute total from last season I will extend to you an equivalent prize of your choosing.

The way I see it the challenge relating lineups centres on 2 fronts:
1. You want Bargs to help Carmelo on offence,
but you want Meta to cover the harder cover when Melo is on the floor.
Meta and Bargs cannot both start because Carmelo and Chandler are certain starters.
Starting Meta would mean both Amare and Bargs coming off the bench and that is way too SOFT a defensive unit even with a Martin-Shumpart tandem manning Sf-SG.
2. Then there is the SG/PG situation:
Since we do not need a major influx of offense coming off the bench this year (because we'll have Amare, Hardaway and a healthy/improved Shumpert at the start of the season);
It therefore makes sense to start JR because he can drive, run, play with intensity while presenting a serious threat from the SG position.
I like the way Prig orchestrates offense better than Felton, but with so many skilled players like Shumpart, Meta, JR, Hardaway RJ and Martin, we can't be running many 2 pg sets.
It seems fairly evident that Felton and Prigs can no longer start together.
Sumpart, Martin and Meta all are all defensive change of pace momentum changers.
They could become a real force working together as a unit.
I feel comfortable coming in heavy with a tough defensive tempo unit that includes Shump, Meta & Martin, they should play well enough offensively with P/R and Jumper contributions from Amare, and easy looks through the creative orchestration of Prigs.

Knicks1248 - you, of all people, a veritable basketball doctoral candidate, dare question the rock steady predictions of The Answer Man? If your wishful think is rewarded by Amare playing significant minutes this year, you will have your Krispy Kremes delivered with deliberate speed.
He is done. Who you gonna believe, your lyin eyes, or The Answer Man?
One more thing, for all the "he's gotta prove himself/ he does not play defense/ Mike Woodson did nothing for the development of Earl Smith Jr" naysayers... Andrea Bargnani was not acquired to ride the pine.
Homey is starting.
He will be challenged.
Switch Shump and JR, and you've arrived at the current, injury-free reality, colorfl1.
JR's suddenly earned the right to start? For what? Based on what? Knee surgery?
You need JR on that second unit. The only true offensive firepower you have is Stat, and as the AnswerMan is betting the Krispy Farm, that aint no sure thing. Watching a second unit of Kmart of the blue light, flat line, non rotational j, the occasional Metta 3, and Prigs, who'd rather switch than shoot, would be utterly painful. All D and very little O makes a rotation a very dull watch.
Shump is a nice running mate with Felton. JR would not be. Let Mr. Smith play his way into the starter's unit. Or Shump play his way out of it. Or (god forbid) Ray get beat out by Prigs or Beno.
Life is filled with Kreme and possibilities. misterearl's Amare negativity fixation notwithstanding.

Very good points Jrodmc, but it seems evident that playing off Prigs and with a defensive unit would best aid Shumpert's offensive evolution. He will have more chances to run and drive to the basket playing with the likes of Martin, Stat and Meta.
His true talents would get lost as 5th offensive option starting with Carmelo, Bargs, Chandler and Felton.
I really feel that Shumpert can grow into a star if given enough of a role to get in rhythm and gain confidence.
