Usually the yr when players break out. What are your expectations for him going into the season? He has a big opportunity in the beginning with Smith being out.
He is one of the few bright spots. I'm expecting big things from Shump and bringing JR back only stunts his development but at least we don't have to worry about that for a while. Unfortunately I see Shump, my favorite Knick the last 3yrs , getting traded at the deadline since he is our only asset. Since we gave up every last asset for Amare and Melo.

What I'm hoping for is him continuing to shoot well from three while reducing the drives to the basket since he's terrible at that. I'm also hoping he's improved his off the ball defense as well
He's been money from 3 since working with Dave Hopla on not jumping so high
Same as when Hopla worked on Prigioni quicker release from 3
Can't wait. Shump hasn't played a full season or had a regular training camp because of the lockout and his injury. He should have a great year.
Exactly that's why I go crazy when people suggest trading Shump and he is expendable. This will be his first full camp. He's been behind the 8ball every yr so far trying to get up to speed without disrupting chemistry. We saw what he did in the playoffs as he logged more minutes and became more comfortable in the offense. Unfortunately Woodson was too far up Melo and JR's ass to get them to play team ball

They wouldn't trade Shump for just anybody though if they did trade him. You would be talking about a Rondo esc type player.

i fully expect shumpert to emerge as the second or third scorer, to be honest with you. he has the talent and his offensive game has improve greatly since his rookie year. if he is working on his game like he said he is, then he should avg around 16-17 ppg. with the potential of a 20 ppg scorer.
I don't know I rather keep Shump and retool after 2015 then trade him now in another trade where we get hosed for another teams castoff. Rondo would be intriguing but I would try everything not to include Shump
so what if Shump doesn't improve and just plays ok, nothing special....like say Thabo Sefolosha, Tony Allen or Deshawn Stevenson

Even what he brings now with great perimeter D and efficient 3 pt shooting. He is a highly effective role player. His rebounding was very good in the playoffs as well. He is only moveable if you are getting someone clearly better imo.
His handle, creating, pull up, finishing after contact or go to moves when attacking, and health are the areas of concern.

Shump needs to show improvement in all the areas you mentioned. It's a Crap shoot Cuz if he doesn't show it this year, how long are we going to have this potential tag on him? Thabo, Tony, and deshawn all bring what you say Shump is missing. Difference between these guys and Shump is Shump talks a mean game and he has a drive to him, it just doesn't match his game at this point.
If it were me he would be gone. I understand the potential but my patience is really thin
im a shump fan...mostly because he plays all world defense. but i dont think he'll put up the points that people are expecting. i think hes thabo sefolosha with more "flair". i do think he'll improve his shooting...and thats fine..im not expecting more than 12ppg/6rebs/3asts...hes a role player not a star...

some consistency with his jump shot but, Shump really, REALLY needs to make better decisions going to the rim. Has to become a better finisher...dude has been pretty poor in that are and he's too athletic and strong not to be a better finisher.

Lol, was gonna say the exact same thing. Who would've thought huh -- he's become a very good 3-pt shooter yet doesn't finish as well as you'd think. Coming outta college, you would've expected the opposite. Not sure how this can be rectified -- maybe have Herb set up close to the rim with those forearm pads/blockers or whatever and continue to bang him around as he tries to finish? I dunno. It's not as simple as getting in the gym and putting up 500 extra shots a day...It's not really a repetition thing (or is it?). I don't think it's a 'he shies away from contact' thing either though. I don't think he's afraid of anything...Remember that big dunk he had on Garnett in Boston a couple of years ago? I remember another drive and finish against Cleveland at the Garden where he blew by Anthony Parker out high for a monster dunk...And I remember his 1st game back last year in London where he took off baseline and almost threw down a monster dunk before Monroe or someone got a piece of it. It's not really the throw downs -- when those prevent themselves, he converts -- it's more the smaller layup conversions in traffic he has problems with. The slightest contact seems to throw him off. You wouldn't think that -- this dude's strong physically and mentally. Judging by his plus size and athleticism, this aspect of the game shouldn't be that big an issue. Very happy with the way his jumper has progressed though. He's exceeded expectations here by a mile. Really looking forward to Shump taking the next step. I can't wait to get rolling!!!!

Well he started looking like himself..I was reading a report on ACL injuries, and it takes 12 to 14 months for full motion of the knee, which was right about the time he was a little more aggressive taking it to the hole.

shumpert will never reach his potential on this team.. not a great environment. I would like to see him take less threes and work on being a better finisher, dribbler and develop that mid range jumper.. that is key.. but on this team, he just won't have that chance... the best thing for him would have been to develop he and lin in the backcourt, have healthy amare, and build a team with that.. at which point, looking at 2015 would have made more sense. You would truly have time to evaluate your young talent in larger roles.. we added another iso chucker to this team.. do you honestly think that shumpert is going to have a chance to expand his game on a team with carmelo, JR smith and now crapnani? This is not the spurs who created an environment where they are able to let a guy like kawai leonard fully develop... which is sad.. I think shumpert could be a better than decent player.. Honestly I think he will be gone in a year or two and you will hopefully get to see him reach his potential if it isn't too late..

those numbers are ambitious, especially the rebounding numbers..
